This has been a foremost folk music venue as long as I can remember. Though only a small bar, Sandy Bell's is a very popular music venue; with close proximity to the university, it has a large student clientele along with the regulars. No food is on offer here, but the attraction of music nights more than makes up for that. Be prepared to climb over 'bodies' to partake of the restrooms when there is a big session on! | Fred | Lost its charm | | One for the tourists these days, locals not made to feel welcome anymore, pints are fine though | | Tuesday, June 15, 2010 | Rating: rosettes |

| | Diane Taylor | Brilliant music pub | | Excellent! Wonderful ambience. The main musicians that I saw were 4 fiddlers, a guitarist, a bodhran player and a whistle and clarinet player. I asked if I could join them and played on my couple of egg shakers.
It was very crowded! Do like I did and get there by 8.30 or you'll find yourself standing all evening. | | Sunday, April 16, 2006 | Rating: rosettes |
| | elainemarie | Great for tourists and locals | | A great bar - I have taken numerous visitors from overseas (some of whom rarely,if ever, venture into bars). they all have loved the bar, the locals and of course the music. This is a must for visitors and locals. | | Friday, April 14, 2006 | Rating: rosettes |
| | Oskar Fidjestøl | Best pub in the world! | | I have been in a few, and this was very special to me. The atmosphere is unique. To be called by my first name the third time I entered the pub, and also be invited to play along with some very fine musicians... It's really special. Although I didn't dare to play, I really enjoyed the offer and the occasionally wonderful music. It made my trip to Scotland. Michael is a good guy, may Sandy Bells prevail as a true part of Scottish culture in a rather touristic city. People and music gives a lot more to a tourist than a buying a red wig and a lousy bagpipe for five pounds. Thanks! | | Friday, November 11, 2005 | Rating: rosettes |
