Why on earth were they allowed a few years ago to wipe out the beautiful picture of 1st derby winner Diomed above the door, it was dominating and very relevant, a lovely piece of art. Dreadful mistake I think and something lost forever.

I have learning dificulties and find it sometimes hard for those to understand me, with this in mind i would have though that some bar staff might not fiind this so funny..unless you work behind the derby arms that is disgusting

lovely, very impressed!
I recently went for sunday lunch to the pub and was greeted by friendly staff at the bar. Upon arrival I was informed the entire pub was now non smoking and directed to a table. Brilliant table service followed by tasty food. Very enjoyable visit!

Would never go back
I recently visited the Derby Arms with my fiancé for a 'romantic' evening to celebrate our anniversary. From the outside the pub appears ok, but upon entering the building my lungs were filled with thick smoke from cigars/ciggarettes so i asked to be directed to a non smoking area. The table we were offered was directly next to the smoking area, where the boss and her pals were 'eating, drinking and being merry'. I asked the waitor if there was any other tables that were free in the restaurant but he replied it was the 'only' one avaliable. When the landlady looked over and noticed there was a problem she approached me, she was heavily drunk (by 7.30pm on a Tuesday evening) and said if i didnt want to sit there , LEAVE. I pointed out that i didnt want her to lose my custom but she said 'stick your custom up your....'. I was very shocked at the way i was spoken to, then issued hurriedly towards the exit. 'My drink' i exclaimed, '**** off and dont come back' was her slurred response. Without a doubt this is the worst service i have ever received, in any restaurant/pub during my 28 yr lifespan.

Following this i wrote to Mitchells and Butler who own the chain, they were deeply sympathetic to hear of my experience, but explained that 'Tracey' has an alcohol problem and is hopefuly on the road to recovery. I wish her the best of luck.

Rude Staff
Called in early on a Saturday evening with 2 teenage children who were very hungry! We stood at the order point looking at the menu to decide if we wanted to eat there. We were approached by an extremely rude member of staff who ordered the children away from the bar. I pointed out that we were only looking at the menu, as it was not on display anywhere else, but my comments were met with rudeness once again. We left and had a very enjoyable meal in a nearby establishment, joined by the other 5 in our party. We spent nearly £200 and the staff were polite.

Really nice, lovely xmas day!
Sorry, did we go to the same pub, i also went for Christmas dinner and thought the whole place was lovely, the staff had obviously been very hard at work the night before with all the preperations, the tables looked lovely, it was warm and friendly, obvious;ly the pub was absolutely full to the brink but i was willing to understand that that was out of the managers and her fantastic staff's hands!

Wonderful Xmas Lunch!
Lovely place, visited for xmas dinner, all the tables were sat our beautfiully, our food was excellent, even thought the pub was full to the brink we did not feel at all cramped, staff were friendly, inviting and the pub had a very warm, cosy feel, a great atmosphere, very much unlike the rubbing house, which has none!

whilst this is a delightful place on the outside the service inside doesn't match food was poor my steak wasn't cooked near well done and the managers were both unhelpful and rude, there are two other pubs on the downs which as another person pointe out far better than this rubbish
