Better
The dymock arms has finally opened and after a disappointing start there is finally customers returning to the pub and with the added pool table the younger members of the village are returning. Although we are returning it would be nice if the owner did not constantly run out of popular drinks. (i.e BEER)

Looks nice, shame about the food
We stopped at the Dymock Arms for a meal last night. On arrival, the lack of customers was a little worrying but the attractive exterior and pleasant interior with some orignal features made us feel less apprehensive. However, our meals were extremely disappointing and not in keeping with appearances. The beef and ale pie could hardly be called a 'pie' as the piece of pastry was less than a couple of inches in diameter. The meat was dry, the sauce bland and the mashed potatoes were declared the worst tasted since school dinners. The sauce with my meal was far too sweet. To be fair, I would say that my vegetables were very good. Please sort this out. It's a great looking pub and with good food, I'm sure could be very successful.

Went to a pub in the village of penley the other day and although was a bit dubious as to the amount of empty tables after talking with a very nice waitress we were made very comfortable, and the food was excellent. I believethe chef used to work at The Walls in oswestry, so the standard was not unexpected and although might seem pricey for a pub, for a restaurant its quite reasonable, and they do large parties there I believe, so well done to the owners, we will definateley be back

sadly dissapointing
A late decision to eat out and give our local a chance was met with a very dissapointing end. We entered the empty restaurant (which was emphasised by the overcrowding of tables) at 8.50 pm only to be told quite simply that the chef had already left.Maybe this was for the best as many have said it is overpriced - a friend had ordered the pork fillets only to be served a single fatty pork-chop. No effort was made to encourage us to possibly return and we left very dissapointed. I can though recommend the cross foxes, who not only offered us a free starter on our next booking (as they were also unable to entertain us with food-due to being full rather than no chef present) and a very pleasant, encouraging service.
Can i suggest a move to side with the locals and offer a more realistic service of bar meals and special offers?

good job!!!
A recently re-opened pub which we tried is at penley near wrexham, very smart inside with a non-smoking restaurant, but allowed in the bar, food excellent, high quality at reasonable prices, think it will do well. Well done!!!

Nookie and Paddongton
Nookie needs beer!!!
Having become a part-time resident in Penley recently I have noticed that there is a distinct lack of places to drink. At the tender age of 21 I feel it is only right that I should be able to express myself through drinking copious amounts of beer and staggering home in the early hours amusing my neighbours, but am unable to do this! I know a certain chap accross the way that has even taken up golf through lack of alcohol and I assure you this is a bad thing! He needs beer as do I and we need the Dymock arms to open soon otherwise we may take up such sports as croquet and crown green bowling to make up the time which should be spent drinking in our local!

Man Without Pub
The nicest closed pub in Penley
I can honestly say that when it comes to pubs which are not open to the general public the Dymock Arms is far and away the best one in Penley.

One day before I die I would like to sit inside it and drink some beer. I would also like to see the Taj Mahal and to fly in space. It's too early to say which ambition is closest to fulfilment.

closed until furter notice
This public house could have been demolished and rebuilt in a shorter time than this refurbishment.
The Bar could have been opened for drinkers years ago, allowing locals to use the pub, while the other work was ongoing.
Local people have various opinions as to how the landlord can fund the refurbishment with no income for three years. It simply does not make financial sense to shut a busy pub for this amount of time.
Progress is painfully slow, as was the service in the pub before closure.
I only hope new owners are imminent, as locals have now expressed no wish to use the pub under current ownership.
If the landlord is deluded enough to believe he can run an a la carte restaurant in penley, ignoring drinkers, he is an idiot.

What a Nightmare! The Dymocks Pub at Penley shut for over 3 years. All looks posh as if it is due to re-open, but, WHEN?

Soon I hope...

Frustrated drinker
Please hurry up and open !
Pub shut 3 years now entire village fed up. No doubt this clown is waiting for the 100 odd new houses to be occupied before opening, but this seems unfair on scores of long standing local customers, many of over 50 years of Dymocks drinking.

old penley
getting very thirsty now
I think this pub has been closed for too long now and as this is the only pub in the village and it is too far to walk to another pub I am getting very lonely and thirsty, at my time of life it is hard not getting to see my friends regularly and if I were to get the bus to the next village I would get drunk and miss the last bus home and I cannot afford a taxi
