uncomfortable
we went for a family teatime meal at 6pm we had 3 children with us but it became clear very quickly that children are not welcome. they only had to move and the landlady went over and told them off. we were very uncomfortable the whole time and certainly would never return. the food was irrelevant as totally not enjoyed feeling watched and regular comments to our children who certainly werent misbehaving just laughing at times

Sorry you were dissapointed
I have no excuse for your unhappy experience at the Shears Inn. All I can offer is my apologies and if you can contact me through the website or telephone I will try to make amends. The landlord was very unhappy as he wasent there that day It must have been the barman Jim

nice food shame about the landlord
visited with friends for lunch 14.02.12 at 12.00 lunch time. Were advised to order quick as a wedding party was due. Tables were laid our for a party in half of the pub. Therefore we rushed to order. We must have been very difficult guests as we were told to look at the menu more carefully when asked if the sandwhich was a baguette or bread - followed by heaves and sighs. A man at the bat commented that we couldn't read. Food was OK but had to wait and be ignored at bar to get the bill.

beers
i totally agree with the last comment put on here. Why is it when the current owners return the beer goes downhill and so does the atmosphere. Ive never known anything like it the landlady walks into the room and you can cut the atmosphere with a knife. Maybe they should go away more often !!

Taylors drinker
You havent got long left
Get to the Shears now that the former landlord is looking after it for a couple of weeks. The beer is bound to be back on form as thee current owners certainly havent got a clue about keeping Taylors ales. I will be there as much as possible until the owners return then its the Pump room again

well...
i went to the shears on the 1.10.2006 for the 1st time the food was really nice and the barmaid was lovely. As for when the food was served service with a smile was far from what it was. the waitress was that served us wanted our money there and then with no please or thankyou... i found her a little obnoxious actually. apart from that everything was good but if there wasnt that downfall it would have been marvellous. Thanks to everyone else

Worth a visit
I have to say that upon visiting the Shears Inn at Paris Gates on a reccommendation from a work colleague I must say it was one of the friendliest places I have ever been. The regulars took myself and my wife into their conversation as if we had been going there every Sunday evening for years. Their banter and good spirit were a delight and we will certainly be paying many more visits to this little hidden gem

valentines meal
I went to the shears for a valentines meal and im really sorry to have to say ive been unable to work since then due to food poisoning. I am not saying it was definately the pub food but that was the last meal i ate before becoming ill. At the time the steak seemed a little sour but i put that down to the way it was cooked. everything seemed to be organised chaos that night the staff were just rushed off their feet. Maybe they tried to do too much in such a small area. Unfortuately this pub does not have the capacity or the coordination to hold so many customers within one night.

Fine Food, Good Beer
I was taken to the shears for lunch last week, which was my first experience of this establishment, What a fantastic suprise, the food was superb and the service was first class. the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the warm and cosy atmosphere makes the shears a must visit place. A little out of the way, but worth the effort.

Great Pub - Happy People
Dean & Kath at the Shears have a little gem of a pub hidden away in Halifax. My most recent visit was a delight. The locals all made me & my wife feel very welcome and the staff were very accomadating and helpful. Our food was excellent and the selection of Taylors beers is a real bonus. We will certainly be calling again soon. Keep up the good work!!!

from the landlady
I am really sorry that your experience at the Shears was not up to your expectations. In my defence I was in Cyprus at the time of your vist but this is no excuse. The staff should not have left you with this opinion Please come along again and introduce your self and I personally will try to make amends

landlady
having visited the shears several times over the past year the landlady is not overly welcoming to females. I find her a very ignorant person if it was not for the landlord and the waitress making me feel welcome i would not have returned to this establishment again. Well done Dean and serving staff.

well
let me say my trip to the Shears Inn was a experience!! when i first walked in the staff were very pleasant and made me and my family very welcome, however after being there a short time the landlady made us feel that we had outstayed our welcome, the landlord on the other hand made us feel like we were locals and were made really welcome.. the locals were really cheery people and the waitress we dealt with was really helpful and a delight to be waited by.

shears is great
I went to the shears ova the previous wkend and the food and staff were fabulous. I loved everything about it. Even though the pub was fairly busy the staff always made time to take care of every customer as an individual. All round good fun!

What a waste of time and effort
I was told of the Shears a while back, and was told it was a hidden gem. This intrigued me to visit it, so me and my husband took a short visit. Well, let me say it was short. The staff were very helpfull and friendly, but the land lady and lord were incompetant. I dealt more with the waitress than anyone else there, and I was mainly stood at the bar ordering drinks. I waste of time and money.
