Birthday Tea
We live very near to the Maypole and went at the end of October for my sisters birthday. Food brililant, staff welcoming and atmosphere was relaxed and very family focused. Going again this weekend for Sunday lunch, check it out it's a lovely place to eat.

Pianoman
Passed with flying colours
Date of visit: 22nd July.
Following our daughter's graduation in Lancaster, we had planned to call at another local restaurant for a celebration meal on the way back from the M62 motorway (The Turnpike). When we got there, a wedding was in full swing, so we looked for a plan B and thought we would try the Maypole, which is very near where we live and which re-opened earlier this year. So glad we did.

We had:

Starters:
Broccoli and parmesan soup with a selection of fresh home made bread; aubergine and goat's cheese parcels; bread and olives (to share). All delicious and well presented.

Mains:
Chicken stuffed with garlic mushrooms; Crispy pork belly on a bed of bubble and squeak with slices of apple and a cider jus; vegetarian stuffed pepper with mushroom risotto; one of our party had the aubergine and goat's cheese starter as a main meal.

All our plates went back empty. The Crispy pork belly was a perfect balance of tastes, very well cooked and presented with a subtle delicious light jus.

We all felt we could recommend the dishes we had, but the pork was particularly good.

The vegetarian options were really good and not just the usual suspects, which ticked the box for two of our party as many eateries have a this is the vegetarian option - take or leave it attitude.

The staff were very attentive and cheerful and the service was prompt. Would definitely recommend it to others and we intend to go again, particularly as it is within walking distance, so we can leave the car at home and sample some of the great beers and wine. As we were leaving another graduation party arrived.

Downside? Loos could do with re-furbishment. Outside of that, full marks.

Response to Mike
I agree with Dave - Mike must have been on another planet - we had excellent hand pulled cask beer, the food was very good and was good value - as for the landlady, she was welcoming, very pleasant to talk with and very well organised. We had a great evening and will return regularly even though it's a bit of a trek from our home!!!

A newly reopened great pub
Mike must have been at a different Maypole to the one we visited last week.
Good atmosphere, excellent food with an extensive menu, quality beer served by friendly and efficient staff. We had a great night out

New opening 2009
Maypole has a new manager and a new staff team.
The atmostphere is very friendly and food is really good.
The new manager, an extremely nice young lady, seems to be trying to present a comfortable country stile pub feeling, and in my opinoin it is working. Keep going girl.

What a load of rubbish
Now with a new owner and the much welcomed return of Mush as the fantastic head chef. The food is tasty and the bear is cold. With lots of variety and all for such great prices, who could refuse! Donít just take my word on it, try it for yourself you will love it.
