Food is great the pub is lovely and the staff are very welcoming. I also think the dining room is very classy and the beer garden is fantastic for kids and somewhere lovely to sit out in summer! Well worth a visit i go monthly the best thing is the prices are reasonable too

Good local pub with great value food
We go here a lot and I disagree with the comments about it being cliquey. I don't know anyone there but always feel comfortable. We go for food rather than just drinks. The dining room has been done up recently and is really nice The food is great value and very good. The roast dinners are best and only 5.95. Beer is cheap at around 2 a pint. It's a nice local type pub. Not posh but not rough. I like it.

The staff are very friendly and polite, the food is excellent and of a very high standard for pub food, the management need to treat their staff with some respect as ive heard 1 actually swear and rant at them infront of people which i find very unprofessional and i myself felf uncomfortable

fantastic pub
The bowling green is a well run pub with polite and hard working staff. The quality of food and drink is fantastic and up to a very high standard. The cleanliness of the is a very high standard too i can't recall ever being in another pub as clean as this one. I totally disagree with all the negative comments on here.

great family pub that try's to cater for everyone's needs...... great food a good beer. the beer is 20 p a pint dearer than other pubs close by but well worth the extra..... and what you pay extra on ale you will save on food.

excellent
Great pub been in a few times, the food is fantastic and the pub has been reburished to a high standard, most of the staff are friendly, found 1 to be a bit abrupt and a little short but unsure if it was the liverpudlian accent that made her seem this way.

the beer is quite expensive but the food is by far the best pub food in the area and extremely cheap, the mushroom pepperpot is amasing

disappointing
Extremely expensive beer and unfriendly staff and management. They need to learn about customer service, Charging top prices doesn't mean you can treat the punters like dirt! Strongly recommend the nearby Canal Turn for excellent customer service and tasteful decor.

Great pub & chefs
Lovely atmosphere apart from when the tall blonde is working behind the bar, she has a tendancy to stare at customers, think her name begins with an E?. However the food is lovely and i believe the chef deserves more recognition.

when god created the humans he ran out of dna, so when he got to the bowling green he created the inhabitants from some dog shit he found in the street.

i travel around the country a lot and this is possibly the most unfriendly pub i have ever been in. the inhabitants were on some sort of power trip(trip being the correct word). me and my friend were roughed up for having the ordasity to giggle about the singer. my rating would be in the minus if it was aloud, so 1 point for the roof as it was raining outside

Great Pub
The Bowling Green is a great pub with a lovely atmosphere. It has something for everyone. Families are welcome during the day and there is often a giant slide for the kids. By night it is a popular pub with a good atmosphere. For Sports fans, there is a TFT screen in the main bar area. There is also a separate room with a massive screen for all the top games. Most Saturdays there is live music.
The only improvement I can see is that the food menu isn't great (not enough choice) and the live music should be varied more (it seems to be the same acts on a rotating basis each week)
