Really excellent pub. Friendly, very helpful staff and very good food. Much better than the Bells of Peover in every way.

Great Country Gastro Pub
Its years (about 20) since I have been to the Spinner, so returning to the area I had a friend over for a visit and we decided to call in for lunch. I have since been for a saturday lunch and am about to go again today for Mothers Day lunch. I find the pub itself is still tradional without being twee and kept immaculately with the fires going. The staff I found to be very helpful and friendly without being over familiar and then the food arrived and was fantastic. We had ordered tempura prawns and the fishcakes and both were delicious and very good sized portions. On the next visit we had the black pudding and the prawn pasta, again both beautifully presented and very tasty. I would highly recommend this pub for both its ambience and its food. And lets not forget this is a PUB not the Moss Nook or Yellow Broom and yet still I would rate it almost as highly.

I simply cannot understand the negative comments.... we eat here regularly and NEVER once have had a bad meal or poor service. When the restaurant has been full, they are rather slow but that's the same in many restaurants that don't have multiple chefs!! They do cook everything individually for clients too. As for rudeness? I have never seen or experienced anything other than friendliness.

Appalling service
Service was unfriendly and unhelpful. Woe betide anyone who sits at a reserved table! You have to guess at which ones are reserved! Were not given menus, were not told of specials, soup of day etc. Had to chase up meal as others were being served who had arrived after us - no apology for the wait! Tables very squashed up, very claustrophobic, so close that the landlady elbowed me as she squeezed past, even though I was as far under the table as possible......whilst eating.......no apology on the first attempt, but she did at least apologise the second time she did it!!! Waiters were very disinterested, unsmiling, never even asked if we enjoyed the meal, either during or when paying.
Haven't been to this pub for years and will not be returning. Food was OK but for us the dining experience comes as a package, if the staff are awful, the food just isn't pleasurable. Will not be recommending!

Nice Surprise

Having seen an article in the guardian newspaper food section we traveled from Manchester with two friends to try the highly recommended food and fine beers. we were astounded at the quality of food, service , and atmosphere.
On arrival we were greeted by the landlord Robert and served by his wife Anita who could not do enough for us. The pud is a credit to them and we will certainly be going back.

Terrible Experience
My wife and I visited this pub for a meal, we placed our orders and watched our food being sent to another table. The table consisted of a large group most of whom hadn’t been served. Two of the dinners at this table had ordered exactly the same as my wife and I, we watched as the two dinners sampled the food. To our horror the Landlady went to the table took the food, which had now been standing for five minutes or so, and served it to us. When I complained I was told by the Landlady that she had just bought the food straight from the kitchen and that if we didn’t want the food she wouldn’t change it. We will not be eating here again and would strongly recommend to others not to eat here.

Better than we were looking for.
We took a ride in the countryside and wanted a lovely Sunday meal while we were there. It was absolutely delicious and better than we expected. My husband had the beef roast and I had the lamb both of which had a sumptuous amount of meat and the veg was cooked to perfection. My youngest son had the King prawn and crayfish tails with Linguini Pasta which there was plenty of. My oldest son had the same but a starter portion and also the duck leg. All were presented very impressively and tasted as they looked, fabulous. The only complaint would be the time we waited ( I had drunk 1 glass of coke and my husband 1 1/2 pints of their real ale so he wasn't complaining) but we were sat by the kitchen door and could see the coming and goings of the kitchen and waiting staff. There was no panic or obvious stress in there just a calm, smooth running, clean, well organised kitchen. I guess good things come to those who wait patiently.

Not good for vegetarians
Went to this pub after going on a long walk around Marbury Park. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were in the mood for something to eat. This pub was recommended to us however, there was limited choice for us and decided not to eat. The bar person did say they could do a cheese salad! We sat in the beer garden but had to fight our way through a room full of people watching a football match and we felt like we were intruding.

Simply wonderful
Undoubtly a wonderful meal and great hospitality. Having travelled half and hour to get to the Spinner, it was well worth the journey. Robert and his staff made our party of 6 feel extremely welcome. We enjoyed a three course meal which was beautifully cooked, well presented and great value for money. Service was faultless and not at all stuck up or cold as you can sometimes get in pubs. We'll certainly be returning and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Spinner and Bergamot.

our weekly haunt
we eat at this pub once a week in general...i have never placed a comment before mainly because its a well kept secret of Cheshire hidden away in a little village.. the food is of a very high standard and at a reasonable price...service may be a little slower you could argue at times thats because a lot of the food is done as you order and care taken to get it right...staff are friendly polite and its arguably one of the best kept pints around..if you are in a rush perhaps mention it... (if youve only 20 minutes find the local KFC) if youve an hour and a half to spare its a cracking meal.and drink ...here's hoping I dont have to find somewhere else now as it will be getting too full

Fab Food - do you do parties?
We went to this pub recently and had a wonderful Sunday lunch. The pub is great with a lovely atmosphere. We ate in the dining room out the back was wondering do you cater for large parties in there at all? Maybe about 80 for Sunday lunch?

Great place
This is where we go to eat whenever we can. The food is fabulous - the service can be slow, I think it is because everything is prepared from scratch. Because it is so good it does get very busy

Fabulous food in friendly surroundings
We've just enjoyed two meals at The Spinner and have to say that both were among the best we've ever had in any pub. Great choice of starters, mains and puds and the beer was good too.

I chose the king prawns in a coriander tempura batter as my starter and they were so good I had them again the follow day. The liver and bacon was scrumptious, and the king prawn and crayfish tail linguini out of this world.

Sue chose a mix of prawns and scallops for starters, followed by home-made spam fritters and brown sauce. She loved them!

In short, we found the Spinner to be a real gem for both food and friendly service. Top marks from us.

service and attitude appalling - never again
my friend and I are regular cyclists and stop off most evenings during the week for a drink and a bite to eat at various pubs around the cheshire lanes. We stopped off at this pub tonight what a mistake we made We visited a short time ago and had a meal which was very average but felt we would give it another try We politely asked for 2 latte coffee and the guy behind the bar v abruptly said it that all we wanted he said we would have to wait a few mins we told him we were outside where we had left our bikes we waited 15 mins went back in the guy ignored us and carried on serving other people - we had already paid for our drinks. Our patience was being tested by this time so we decided not to bother and asked for our money back the guy just walked off and served other people he finally came back to the till near us and just ignored us so I made a comment about being ignored. Another guy behind the bar (i think the landlord finally gave us our money back) I then told him I was being brought to his place for a meal later in the week he said go somewhere else - donlt worry we wont ever revisit and we will tell as many people as we know to do the same - the atmosphere in this pub was as sour as the service avoid at all costs I have never complained on a site like this before but like the previous guy was treated in a very poor manner be warned

Evening Meal
Well, we've just come back from an evening meal at the The Spinner and Bergamot pub. I can't complain about the food, it was nice. However the service was terrible. When we were attended to, it had taken 15 minutes to receive our first bottle of wine and then another 15 minutes for the glasses to arrive (only after we reminded them) ! There were long delays like this throughout the evening. I wouldn't mind but the restaurant was only 1/3 full and the pub was half empty. If your going to keep someone waiting an hour for their starter, you could at least get them something to drink. I'm actually a very tolerant person in these matters and this is the first time I've complained about service from an establishment. if the management ever read this then hopefully they will take it as a wakeup call. If your going to charge food out at the top end of the market (£18 for a small steak) then you need to look at the whole package!

Spinner and Bergamot
Hi, I ve just jumped on after a delay in Prague, only to note comments on
our Public House.
Spinner & Bergamot Inn at Comberbach, thanks for your rating, You are
correct in thinking that it was named after two famous race hourses owned by
the local gentry of near Marbury Hall. in the late 1700s they won the
Chester Cup and also the Scarborough Chase and made a fortune for the Smith
Barry family they also owned the Spinner Pub that became the Spinner and
Bergamot after they believed that the pub gave them good luck and fortune.
Hope this clears things up for you.

Paul.
