Applebank Inn, Larkhall, Lanarkshire

My family have been using the Applebank for bar meals for a number of years, however I noticed a huge difference in the quality and service on a recent visit. On arrival when ordering drinks we were informed they had NO Rose wine which I thought bizarre for a bar! I then asked if it would be acceptable for me to purchase a bottle from a nearby shop. It took the girl behind the bar 2 requests and 25 minutes to inform us that we could but they would take a £5 corkage. The portions of food were much smaller than previous visits and I noticed the place was very quiet which is unusual but obviously the Applebank not as popular as before which is a shame. Definately won't be back!

The parking has a lot to be desired. The place is very dark, sticky finger marks on the glass and cobwebs are not a good sign so I wonder how clean the kitchen area was. As I was eating my meal, I noticed more cobwebs, most of which I could clean myself without even getting up from the table, so not an impossible task to remove in my opinion. The meal was OK, but the veg (peas and sliced carrots) were most definately from a tin. I feel that is unacceptable. Veg should be fresh and not soggy and tasting of the salted water they were tinned in. The place is not disabled friendly. Quite a task for even children or elderly to negotiate the stairs, especially when the rail stops at the last few on the bottom. The staff were unfriendly, the woman was cheeky and looked like she couldn't be bothered and I could not tell who was staff and who had just walked in from the street. Strappy vest tops and combats seemed to be the uniform. The place needs new staff, a cleaner and a wake up call. I will never be back and neither will anyone I know.
