Meals two for one good value for pub grub, as with many pubs now short staffed, wanted to complain but felt sorry for those two poor girls - taking food orders and serving drinks. (no manager in sight)
Better service at the Sun Romsley

Food in midweek is usually good(we go every week) but have only been on one Sunday and was not impressed with tasteless veg.and processed meat.We will stick to midweek in future. Prices have increased lately but service appears slower.

only large parties welcome
rang to book a table for a birthday meal for five and was advised that they only take bookings for ten or more,so appears that if there are less than ten of you in your party you can either take a chance of them having a table without booking or go someware else!

poor service
Ordered drinks which took a while to arrive.Meals took half an hour despite the place not being too busy.Plates cleared away but nobody came back to take further food orders, after 25 minutes had to go to the bar to order puddings and more drinks. The service was poor and the staff did not appear to be enjoying their work.
Food was pretty good though.
We have been to The Dog before and never experienced this type of service so hope this is a one off.

Not what it says on the menu
Not particularly good service food was ok except sunday dinner lamb was processed meat and not very tasty. Other meals all had items missing compared to what it said on the menu eg no beetroot or relish with burger, no gravy with pie, no sauce on salad. Food was luke warm. overall not very good and not a place i will go back to in a hurry. Shame because the building itself is nice.

Visited 30/06/11. Quite busy which I took to be a good sign - how wrong I was. Our table for 4 was situated by exit door, constant stream of people walking past and every time door opened we got disinfectant smell from gents toilet. Ordered a glass of rose wine, it was unchilled, altho I was assured it was straight from the fridge. They offered me ice! Main meals when they eventually appeared were a disgrace. I wasnt expecting haute cuisine but food should at least be edible. Chef should be sacked. My chicken in brandy and cream sauce (13.50) was so dry & tough I could not eat it, veg was tasteless, cold and overcooked, swimmimg in cold cooking water. 1st time I've ever been served brown broccoli! Was offered a replacement meal but by that time I just wanted to leave. Ale & Hearty pie was a small portion cut from a whole pie, not what was expected, sausage yorkshire was very soggy. Only acceptable meal was a burger, altho chips were cold. Manager couldnt offer refund as 2 for 1, offered pudding & coffee which I refused so gave 20% discount & 20% on future meal should we return. Not much danger of that happening I'm not a masochist.

very discustted with food and no refund
had starters, 2 for one,.and drinks. ordinary pasta with tomato sauce was served with dried lumps, and burned garlic bread. when asked for exchange, was told it will be couple of minutes. well, i do not know what clock blond lady has, but my partner has had meal finished and mine still was not exchanged. When asked for refund, was told to have cofe or cake instead as on two for one she cannot do refund. would you want cake instead of dinner? and just to add to it, it is not about nearly 9 for dried pasta with tomato sauce, it is about customer service. I have been working in retail for years so if management wants to understand it, please feel free to contact me.

Very good
Service was fantastic, warm welcome from all staff as soon as we walked in.
Real ales always on tap. Samples avaliable when I asked.
Managers seem very friendly and all staff have a bubbily attitude.
Food was brilliant, understood its a 2 for 1 but food was very good quality.
Very good atmosphere.
Definately recommended.

Gone down hill a long way since last year
I was part of a party of 5 returning for the 2nd year running for our Xmas meal, what a disappointment compared to last year, the starter of prawn cocktails was a very meagre portion with the prawn cocktail sauce completely missing, served with 2 slices of brown bread with no butter supplied, the main meal was marginally better, but every on complained that the pigs in blankets were not cooked and the bacon was semi raw, a bit of cranberry sauce would have been nice with the turkey. I couldn't fault the sweet of Xmas pudding, then we were left sitting there while tables were being cleared, we were never asked if anyone wanted cheese and biscuits, or a cup of coffee, so I had to ask the waitress for them, when it came what a disgrace compared to last year, It was served up on a dinner plate with all the cheeses mixed up one on top of another, no small plates or cutlery where offered until I asked for them, the coffees were then served or actually just cups placed on the table with out any saucers or spoons for the sugar, which I had to request once again. and at 40.00 a head no one even asked if our meal was OK, needless to say we will be looking elsewhere next year for our Xmas meal.
