On the slim occasions we have been to the flag for a meal we have allways had something to complain about. The 2 occasions that stick out. Birthday meal, we all had steak all cooked the same. the meals arrive and mine is rare not well done like the others. by the time it arrives back the others have long finished. Not happy The other occasion, a wake. food was ordered for 12 which turned out to be 2 plates of plain cheese sandwiches and 2 plates of ham. some salad put inthe middle and 2 cakes sliced and put on a plate. about a tenners, if that, worth of food and half hour to perpare. The staff where rude and the bill came to £70. Really. Looking at the posts and the age of them it seems the pub has slowly gone down hill and still in 2012 it hasnt improved. If you want quality in Brackley then head for the Red Lion or the Greyhound. Saturday, December 8, 2012 Rating: No rosettes
Called to book a table for xmas eve for 14 guest. Rude barstaff told me to call back when they are less busy but couldn't tell me when that would be. Great customer service! Haven't even been yet but already dont like the place! Tuesday, December 22, 2009 Rating: No rosettes
We've been to the flag a few times to meet friends. On a few occasions we've eaten there and it never gets any better... the food is awful. They can't even make gravy for goodness sake. The guest ale's are ok but nothing inspiring. I wouldn't recommend visiting. Monday, September 7, 2009 Rating: rosettes
Phil Trenchard Not recommended - stay clear On the handful of occassions I have visited in the last couple of years, I have had bad experiences. Today I was served a cloudy pint of Pedigree (not for the first time), and I had to settle for an inferior pint of Mansfield smooth (suprisingly at the same premium beer price). If you want a full pint, you need to ask for a top up.
The Fish & Chip meal at £2.99 seemed appealing, however, the battered bit of cardboard served was overpriced.
I have no intentions of returning there in the future unless I am obliged to join friends or relatives Saturday, June 3, 2006 Rating: No rosettes
A. Ferguson Up there with the best. I have to say being a scotts man, i know my drink and the chequered flag was a great pub to drink plenty. I was so impressed with it i even took my new american friends for dinner there and the food was excellent. Entertainment in the pub is very good, especially the resident Man Utd fan, a lad called scott evans, who is shall we say proud to wear the red of utd everywhere he goes! Whenever im in the area i always pop in for a swift whiskey and will continue to do so. Keep up the good work guys you are a premier pub!
Snarf Where everybody knows your name Scott evans dragged me there for a full weekend where we drank..a lot. Nice pub and very friendly atmosphere, food was yummy too. Scott is apparently the darts champion but i dont believe him cos i have never seen him play...he drinks too much.
I've been going to this pub ever since my friend moved to the area! I find the pub a really friendly place to drink with outstanding food there aswell. Plenty of space to take my kids and partner to with no worries about the kids getting knocked over! Overall i find the flag a nice place to relax with or without the family with me and would recommend this to anyone who wanted a decent place to go to
J. Walker WHHHHHHEEEEEEYYYYYY!!! What can i say?! great food, great booze, great entertainment...GREAT PUB. The flag caters for all, families etc, and the pub is complimented by all its visitors, even some from the far away land of manchester. On a serious note the pub has excellent facilities and is certainly the best watering hole in the area. Ever improving.
Peter Parker Fantastic atmosphere Coming from Banbury, it is always nice to come to the Chequered Flag. The staff are always friendly and there is always a good buzz going on; from darts to pool. The recent new pool table is excellent. Top Dog!!
Dave Pimbleton Not bad, not bad! I consider the Chequered Flag to be my local even though i reside from Middleton Cheney, where there is 3 pubs. The Flag has a great atmosphere with an enourmous amount to do for all the family apart from drink!! Kids are catered for and there is a pool table and dart board which has certainly improved things. Food is excellent and the menu has a great choice. the pub is spacious, clean and tidy. It makes for an enjoyable evening out.
Robin Banks A bucket of entertainment for the whole family. I have not long lived in the area of Brackley but being male have visit many pubs. On visiting the Flag a number of impressions were evident firstly the size, how clean it is, the friendly atmosphere and on the whole how much people were enjoying them selves children and kids. The ale is good and the facilities are excellent with the recent addition of games facilities, I would recommend the Flag to anybody i think this is a wonderful, enjoyable pub.
I have been visiting Brackley on and off for the last 4 years and whenever i go out, i always go to the chequers. They have recently had new tables with heat lamps fitted outside, got a new dart board and pool table, the management & staff are friendly every time i go in. Admittedly i have not tried the food (Prefer Italian) but the food side always seems to be busy. I would recommend this pub to anyone who visits Brackley.
billinghurst Courteous service If I hadn't been before I would have been put off going after reading your comments. We have visited this pub on several occasions and have always had good and courteous service and lovely food. We have been again recently and were again served a good meal by friendly and helpful staff.
it needs pool tabals and decent music Friday, November 5, 2004 Rating: No rosettes
Linda Philips Typical estate pub Children are allowed to run around outside of restricted areas inside the pub. The brewery tries to maintain the appearance, but landlord allows glasses and bottles to remain on outside tables overnight. Teenagers are encouraged to use outside area and leave mess about the place which doesn't get cleared up for a few days. Not a great experience. Try Brackley's more traditional pubs for a relaxing, more enjoyable drink. Tuesday, November 2, 2004 Rating: No rosettes
