John Phillips
Friendly Atmosphere? Genuine Irish Pub?
I am Welsh and very proud of it, I'm also proud of my Irish heritage on my mothers side so what better venue than Rosie O'Grady's for the final match of importance in the 2005 Six Nations Championship, after all win or lose I would be amongst kindred spirits with whom I could either celebrate or commiserate. The atmosphere was good although a little too 'hoorah Henry' for a working class boy from West Wales, but the three of us took it in our stride, enjoyed light hearted banter with customers and staff, and were settled for a long enjoyable day. Ok so the match coverage was on RTE (you have to accept that, the same as in Wales we would have had BBC1 Wales, although I think our Irish cousins showed poor form by cutting to adverts as the Welsh team came out of the tunnel).

Anyway, my worst day out.... How irritating then for the staff to turn off the sound for the Welsh National Anthem - how typically english an attitude and perhaps a pointer that perhaps ireland is english after all - anyone want to reply to that one? Their refusal to put up the volume - an attitude that was both immature, rude and potentially inflammatory resulted in myself (after returning their un-imbibed black stuff) and my friends having to 'leg it' across town to another venue.

Oh as a footnote and in case anyone cares - Wales won thus proving the existence of God and that he is no lover of the emerald isle after all.

I shall NEVER enter this establishment again, and a suggest no one else does unless it is to use their urinals. The staff are obviously bigoted, rude an unwelcome in both the rugby and indeed the social community itself. My full contact details can be provided to the management should they wish to post an apology. John.
