Very Good food with pleasant service
We really enjoyed this fine restaurant with an imaginative menu, beers and wine.
With a log fire burning brightly its welcome right from the start in the Three Horseshoes.
We had a wonderful meal in one of the 3 eating areas to choose from with such friendly service, this is not just for the One-Off it's menu will encourage repeat visits.
Looking forward to our re-visit, thank you, Mary & Denys

12/06/2012 day visit to Co Durham from Sth Yorks visiting family we made a visit to the Three Horse Shoes at Maiden Law where my wife and I had lunch my wife had burger and french fries with salad and I had haddock and chips we both enjoyed our meals and would recommend this pub to any passing traveler or visitor to the area
as the meals are freshly cooked when ordered so there is a short wait but well worth it staff very friendly and they make you welcome too will visit again.

We went here for an evening meal, the staff were pretty miserable to be honest and had a can't be bothered attitude and sort made you feel guilty about troubling them with your custom. We ordered 2 x 8oz steak meals,at 13.95 each i thought was a bit steep considering you can normally get mixed grills at many other places for that sort of money. We were then told a few minutes later that there was only 1 steak left, this was at 8 o'clock which i thought was a bit odd.Never the less i opted for the Steak & Ale pie instead and my partner was to be the lucky one to get the last steak available,at least that's what we thought. After a lengthy wait, the hard to get 8oz steak meal arrived on a huge plate with only 3 things on it.The steak (obviously) 1x tomato & 1 x mushroom, that was it!!!
Then my Steak & Ale pie turned up,this wasn't much better, one steak and ale pie and blob of dry mashed potatoe with some carrots on the side. This was capped off perfectly when i went to settle the bill and found out my pint of coke (driving) had cost me 3.Won't be going back in a hurry.

sunday lunch
called in for sunday lunch and was appalled at the attitude of the staff on duty, we were totally ignored by the 3 young people at the bar one of whom rudely barged into one of my companions to get a napkin from the bar and still even at close quarters none of them aknowledged our prescence. We therefore left. Not only did you lose our custom on that day but we were also scouting out suitable venues for our company christmas function. may I suggest some staff training is in order.

Lovely!!
The food is lovely!! I'd say it has to be one of the best bar meals around. Visit here quite often due to working quite near by. The owners and staff are brilliant and cant do another to help you. The prices are very reasonable too and the portions are massive!!

Under New Management
The Three Horse Shoes has recently been taken over (Sept 2005) and there have been a great number of improvements made to both the Exterior and Interior.
One of the major improvements has been the change in staff, including the hiring of a new chef with over 10 experience. This has resulted in a return to high quality, homemade food, with steaks and grills an particular speciality. I would recommend the Three Horse Shoes to anyone for any occassion.
