We will return !
Visited this pub with friends while on holidays, what can I say! It's like walking into someone's living room, a bit of a strange smell, very quirky with chamber pots and jugs hanging from the ceiling. George the dog rolled over for me to tickle his belly then promptly tried to take my arm off. The landlady found this as amusing as we did and was heard to say bloody tourists, they think he's ok until he has a piece of them. The parrot was wandering freely but we were warned not to touch him by a fellow drinker as he too bites, I think it's possible that the landlady does too. The drinks were flat and we soon discovered that the strange smell was George peeing everywhere at will. We only stayed for one drink but would we go back? YES! We laughed so much and will talk about it for ages. It will be one of our first stops if we are ever back in brixham lol!

Maritime Inn Brixham
Travelled to Brixham this week, as my holiday in Paris had been cancelled by Travel Agents. Best thing that could have happened. I spent some time at the Maritime Inn, and it lived up to all expectations. George the dog only bit four people, Mr. Tibbs the parrot bit only one (but made it hurt !). Pat the landlady bit no-one, but you sensed it was only a matter of time ! She runs a wonderful REAL pub, with lovely friendly people. I will be booking to stay at the Maritime later in the year. Thank goodness for life's eccentrics ! And Paris ? Forget it ! Travel Agents did me a favour ! It'll be Brixham from now on.

From someone who lives in Brixham.
What to say? Well there is a foul-mouthed, drunken hag of a landlady who keeps a scruffy pub that the locals ( yes, I am a local who lives on Windmill Hill, Brixham) steer clear of. I recommend that, if you are bold enough to venture in, to check your change as she is usually so full of whiskey she will possibly get it wrong, (but always in her favor.) The scruffy old dog George that has free range of the pub is known to bite so be wary of it. As for the parrot, well, it is a feathered version of the landlady. Unless you won`t complain about the shoddy service, foul beer & language that would make a fisherman cringe, or you are a family member, you won`t feel too welcome here.

What a shock
Visited because of the mixed reviews and I wanted to see for myself.
Oh yes! and I did. Dirty glasses, monkey beer and doubtful origin wines, out of date crisps. Landlady you think at first is fun but she ain't...see her when someone gives her apint back because it ain;t good stuff and see her face, here her mouth and keep low. The dog bits if you touch his back without any warning and the land lady gives you a mouthful for trying out a bit of kindness on the dog. The truth is in the game 'spot a local' because there are not any.
Funny thing with the good reviews most have the name Sedden, I found this to be the landlady's name. Not exactly Smith or Jones is it. Sorry not for me after a day on the loo. Rating 1 just for the experience.

Surly and basic
A quirky and unusual building/pub that initially evokes a warm South Devon welcome to anyone crossing its threshold. However, book a room for the night and that illusion very quickly disappears in a puff of wooden galleon gun smoke. The rooms are basic and actually quite clean but the service and other usual nice to haves, that one expects of a B&B, are shocking. A curmudgeonly and surly scouse land lady, when not nursing a hangover, puts you at ill ease and makes the simplest request seem herculean. All in all a very poor experience in a such an otherwise lovely part of South Devon.

Coming to Brixham, dont miss The Maritime!
The Maritime is situated overlooking the Inner harbour, about 2 minutes walk from the main town. The maritime has a warm friendly atmosphere with George the dog and Mr Tibbs the parrot to add to the pleasure. The Landlady Pat is very friendly, dont forget she loves a shot of Famous Grouse! The Interior of the pub is unique a proper old fashioned pub untouched by modernisation, with plenty to look at from the bed pans hung on the ceilings to the local history documents and old photos on the walls. Children are welcome along with pets. The Maritime also provides a room only board, with access to the main Kitchen and help yourself to Tea and Coffee. Behind the Bar is a Massive selection of whiskeys and Spirits, not for the faint hearted. This is the best pub i have ever been in.
