Food and service quality
Visited this pub today 5th june 2014, On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly staff member.
Ordered Steak and fish both with chips.(two meals). Fish was massive ,steak was also large. The order was served in a good time. Both meals were well cooked and tasted excellent. I would recommend this pub to anyone who appreciates good beer and food at reasonable prices

Good food and delightful service
Monday lunch in the summer sunshine. Lamb shank was delicious, very tasty and well worth the visit. The 2 for 1 deal makes it exceptionally good value for money and we will definitely be visiting again.

Steak Burgers
I experienced a Steak Burgers at The Sitting Goose last night. I have travelled all over the world and never had anything like it before and wish I had never ordered it.Having complained about it the manager advised me that it was fresh and there was nothing wrong with the food. The bill was over 100. I CAN NOT RECOMMEND this establishment to my worst enemy.

Very Tasty Food
Firstly regarding some negative feedback on this website the pub has just changed hands and has had a very nice refurb. We went for the first time in years on Sunday 25th November as a family of 4 and all had very tasty food which consisted of 2 of the roasts, 1 fish and chips and a childrens sausage and mash all of which were very tasty in fact probably one of the nicest roast I have eaten out. We all had pudding all of which again were very tasty. Definately worth going.

poor
tables had bits of cuttlery from previuse dinners when meals brought out no cuttlery brought with them. drinks for the kid where billed as fruit shoots in fact they were 50 pence capries from the local store. most meals were edibale a 15 mixed grille was the problem asked for medium rare the steak was still mooing it was that rare and far from being meat from Honeywells I think the local cobbler would have been proud of it. when a complaint was put in the manager was arigant and did not have a clue how to react
I WOULD NO WAY BE ABLE TO RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANY ONE

Had two cheese and pickle sandwiches, salad and chips. Chips tasted a bit strange but generally enjoyed ourselves wondering how it got to be called The Sitting Goose when it was once The Birley Arms after the family who lived at nearby Bartle hall. Lovely setting especially on the day we were there!

Disappointing
Dirty glasses. Dirty cutlery. Gravy on placemat. On a pre-booked visit. No mayonnaise to accompany egg mayo. No butter with potatoes. Salmon steak portion was pitiful. Because of the size it was also dry. Scampi hard. Steak? Don't believe it was rib-eye as stated. Hotpot extremely runny more like soup. My list goes on......

Awful!
Took my Grandad to The Sitting Goose because he grew up down the road and used to go every weekend. First all the tables were full or dirty glasses. He got a beer and the glass was cloudy and mucky. I got a coffee and the milk came in a small glasses which was full of brown stains and bits floating in it. Where going to order food but seeing the drinks we deciding against it.

Poor
Seems the Sitting Goose has changed hands again. Asked to speak to the manager after waiting over an hour for food when the pub was very quiet. The chef comes to the table. Seems the chef is the manager too. Certainly cant do two jobs at one. Food poor and very expensive. Not impressed!

Outstanding
I have been goin to the sitting goose pub for years and the new management are really moving things forward. The food is constantly superb and faultless. The beer is better than other pubs around that area and the service off the waitresses was second to non !! They were helpful and accommodating when I took my mother who is in a wheelchair. They couldnt do enough for us. Nothing was too much for them. We will defiantly continue to visit the sitting goose. The landlords were friendly and welcoming also

Expensive
Myself, husband, daughter, son-In-Law and 17 month old grandson, went for a meal on New Year's Eve. The food was top class, however, prices were more in line with restaurants. My wine and soda cost 4.50 for the wine and then an additional 40p for the soda. As our grandson was a little unsettled on arrival, we asked for some bread to placate him. this was further charged to the bill at 75p. Bear in mind, that we then ordered 3 starters, 4 mains and 4 desserts. The total bill was 105. Although, as previously mentioned the food and service was excellent, due to the cost, I do not feel that we will be returning very soon.
