Much Better since old management gone.
Posted a bad review on here Nov 08.. I received a call from the area manager as I was so angry I called head office to complain... The area manager was shocked but glad I called because the bad manager apparently was used to train new managers in Customer Service for that area... Lol .... I told the area manager to check out this review site to read some of the points that had been made by customers.. he said he would. It took me 12 months to step back in the place & I have to say we are back to going regularly. Staff are much improved, Manager is more friendly. They seem to have put a structure in place to minimise mistakes before the food arrives (Checking off your order with you at the table). I have complained once since & it was dealt with professionally, promptly & politely. Well done to sizzle pub group for getting rid of the old manager.. god help the locals of the pub he got moved to.. if he is still with them. Try this local it is really quite good

we went to the sherwood for tea and both myself and my family really enjoyed it cant fault it in the slightest, after reading the reviews i was debating weather to go but im glad i did and i sure would take any of my friends and family ther in the future great food had by all

Me and my friend decided to go to the sherwood during a break we had at college because it was just around the corner, when we walked in i saw the manager look at us like we were going to be trouble just because were 19 and 18 probably but it seemed nice and it was busy so me and my friend sat in the corner and had a look at the menu and found two meals for 7 so far so good. But when we got to the bar to order our food we were greeted by the same manager wanting to see our ID so i explained to the man we were only getting food not alcohol, he then replied you need to prove your over 18 to be on the premesis, which makes sense when they have kids menus and there were kids sat there with there parents and oh yeh apparently they dont accept driving licenses as valid ID which is just ridiculous, i knew we wouldnt get anywhere if we argued so we just left feeling like we had done something wrong when all we wanted to do was eat, will not be returning again even when i dont need to be ID'd for food!

Staff Rude, Manageer no better
Used to be a regular and joined in the weekly Monday Quiz, which was and still is a great Quiz.
Barman came over and grabbed chair we had moved from adjoining table shouting You know the Rules you cant move chairs! Our friend was about to sit on it when it was whisked away.
1st we had ever heard and have been going at least 10 years. 2nd This boy was intinidating and rude.
Assistant Manager was useless and supported Barman saying those were THE RULES and we should no better. Barman stood behind bar smirking. Assistant Manager said he would give everyone a bit of paper next week saying you cannot move chairs!
We complained to sizzling pubs and the Sherwood Manager contacted us. Tried to explain why there was a rule about bringing chairs from one end of pub to another but we didn't do that just from the table to our side.
Said the rules are not posted because it would give people the wrong idea (or maybe the right idea!).
You go to a Pub to relax and not have to obey silly RULES that allow Jobsworth Bar Staff to intimidate customers.
We will not go again until change of management.

First and last time!
We decided to visit The Sherwood last Friday with my partner and kids. The staff was friendly and although it was very busy the drinks and starters arrived quickly. No cutlery was served but it was only a cajun sharing platter so we managed without. The mains were served shortly after we finished with the starters. My little boy was a little disappointed with the amount of beans on his plate - he could count them quite easily , didn't know there was shortage of baked beans in the country. Then I was presented with the New Luxury Fish pie, which was dark brown in colour and quite obviously overcooked, the pastry was hard as rock and so was the cheese. I was curious though what it tasted like on the inside and when we finally got some cutlery to no surprise I discovered that the rubbery white cube found amongst the potatoes was actually the fish, there was hardly any sauce and the cheese on the top was solid. I was offered to replace it but was warned it would take ages. I didnt want to risk getting the same dish and asked for a Whale of a fish which came soon after, again overcooked and dry. The only food we all actually enjoyed was the chips! Oh, my partner's seafood platter looked really good and tasted lovely. But he was sick all night after that meal and is still recovering from the food poisoning. We surely will not be rushing back there again....

D'k head manager/owner
Me, my partner and our 3 month old child went for a couple of burgers outside in the Indian summer. When we arrived drinks can't be paid for by card, wasn't bothered by this so the helpful bar member setup a tab for us so we could order food too and that would be ok on card then. When I ordered our food from the food till it was clear it was the owner serving me, he was rude and asked me what I wanted? so I told him my order and said we were sat outside (there weren't alot of people outside but everyone was eating and I could see they were taking more food out to other people) he then replied that we weren't aloud to eat outside. I didn't really know what to say so I just told him that wel sit in the far corner, that had no chairs. He then gave me the number paddle and said bye. After a ten min wait our burgers arrived what can only be described as burnt right through and cold. I took both plates straight to him and he said they are cooked on a flame grill and their meant to be like that I was shocked at how rude this asshole was and thought I should mention that I've been a chef for 4 years and a 7 year old can cook a burger! Awful Food
Look, I know good value and to be honest 15,00 for two of us is good value but is it. I know is microwaved and thats fine however. I visited orderd a sizling chicken dish which came within three mins, very fat I thought. A side order of Corn on Cobb and onion rings. Onion rings were not cooked at all a horrid colour. To make things worse the corn was cold even teh butter did not melt. Now rather than go on these sites I would rather tell the business woman or man arther than tell you. I did just that, he nodded in agreement but merely said, OK thanks for telling me. No apology and not even a refund for the onion rings or corn on cobb which we had not eacten save for a small bite. On thats basis I was a tad annoyed so I have decided to tell you too. Sorry, poor quality food not good value at all, service fast perhaps too fast and a shameful attitide when something is below standard.

Keith the Manager should be sacked!!
Me & my partner visited the Sherwood one evening for a meal before going into town for a night out with friends. The meal was OK, but as we were finishing our drinks to leave, I noticed that my lovely black trousers were STUCK TO THE CHAIR WITH CHEWING GUM! It made me feel sick ... I eventually caught the eye of one of the waitresses who said she would get someone to help me. I was sat there waiting 10 minutes without any further help, when a waitress came over to say the manager was not on the premises, and nobody could authorise any credit from the till (although I hadn't asked for any compensation at this point, and anyway, there should be someone on the premises who has authority at all times, surely?). By now I was rather annoyed at being left so long when we were supposed to be meeting friends in town, and I said it wasn't good enough, and insisted I needed some help. The GUM was still sticking me to the chair. GROSS! She went away and a while later she came back to me and said the manager was now on his way, and could be up to half an hour!! I was furious & disgusted. The manager called Keith eventually came with an uncaring attitude and a form to fill in about the incident. He said he had never had this problem before, and he was totally unhelpful. I still had the GUM stuck to me throughout this. He said I should take my trousers to a dry cleaners and bring in the receipt. I kept asking 'well, what about right now? I still have the gum stuck to me and the chair!.. and we are supposed to be meeting friends in town for a night out 10 minutes ago, look at the state of my trousers!' He eventually reluctantly went to the bar and fetched me some ice cubes which I had to rub on my trousers to try to get the gum off, which worked for some of it but left tiny bits on and looked a right mess! He asked how we were getting to town, I said on the bus. He said he would order a taxi and gave us some money to cover it. But as my black trousers were ruined, I was not looking forward to going out any more. Keith ordered the taxi and told me to bring in the dry cleaning receipt. I didn't like his attitude and he seemed like he didn't want to help if he could get away with it. I have not been in the Sherwood since this nightmare and will not go in until that Keith has gone!!

went in for lunch about 2 weeks ago,ordered food at the bar and as i was waiting for my drinks a young man came onto the bar (i think was one of the chefs)straight away put me off my food, his chef whites were not white,he had a long beard and there was a very strong smell that followed.over all i was very disturbed with what i saw and was put off my meal.i will not eat here again.

Poor quality food
Just about given up having a decent meal in there ever again.
My in laws always liked going there with us in the past and now I only go when they want to.The steaks are full of gristle and nearly everything has to come on a sizzling plate.This not only dries the food but if you have a curry it sticks the rice to it like glue.I`ve complained in the past when the staff ask the obligatory was the meal alright question but all you get is an Oh and that`s it.Please avoid eating here if you can until they get the message.

manager is a joke
i agree with all the comments about the manager, my friend had cause to complain and was greeted with a shrug of the shoulders by the manager, then he was overheard telling the girl behind the bar that 'someone was complaining about him again' why does he do the job if he doesnt like customers, he should be sacked, i will not eat in there again as my family were upset the last time they went in there, i only go in to watch the football, although last time i asked him to change the channel he said no loudly and informed me people were watching the other game, even though no one was and other people wanted to watch the same game as me

I have to agree with the comments below. The management team at The Sherwood are trully awful. Both Keith and Steve can be very rude and arrogant. Steve seems to think the pub is lucky to have him and when you do see Keith he's got a sour face and bad attitude. Both lack basic bar staff skills, having no idea who might be next and then often serving you in a hot wet glass, which still manages to retain dirt through the washing process. Some of the staff are good, and with a decent management team the pub could once again be an excellent venue instead of the dirty hole it is now.

As a ex-staff member working in the kitchen being told to use out of date products :ie Chicken fish sausages rib eye rumps and sirlion its quite clear the manager dosent care about his customers or staff since he is willing for them to eat such food items like the 1 week out of date sausages as for his manners for a manager i think its disgusting how ever 1 thing he dose care for is himself...

arrogant manager
we go to the sherwood every tues for lunch, there is me my daughter, my mother and my grandson and every time the manager is there it is a bad experience. today we went and it was the worst experience ever. my daughter was queueing to order and wanted to pay for meals for all of us but because she wanted to pay for some with cash and some with card, the manager got angry and said ' you are holding everybody in the queue up' then because she wanted drinks after that he said ' if you had told me i could have been getting them while the payment went through' she then came back to the table without the number that they give you to put on your table, so the manager stormed over and said ' i dont know how you think we are supposed to find you' my daughter was on the brink of tears and i went over to the bar and said ' everytime we come in here you are rude, and for a manager i think that is disgusting, i then said i have you area managers number in my phone and im going to ring him because i have had enough of this treatment, he then said ' i have his number if you want it' i said i have it thank you! when i went back to my table 2 separate people came up to me and said he was rude with them also and one elderly lady said she had only come in today because she thought the manager had left, so she wont be going in again. when a young lad cleared our table my mother said thank you and told him about what had happened, the young lad said lots of people have commented about the manager being rude! top and bottom of this is, there are hundreds of places to eat and when you choose one in particular, you expect to be treated nicely, but obviously looking at this forum im not the only one that has had a bad experience. i did contact the area manager who was on his way to the sherwood today anyway, but said he hadnt had any other complaints, i told him i was amazed at that, but said its not easy finding who you complain to, so if anyone would like to give the area manager any comments his number is 07808094248 and his name is graham.

No idea how to treat customers
Arrived ... at this local pub in a good mood with hubby & 2 kids for a quick evening meal about 4 weeks ago. They got every meal wrong in some way & waitress took umbridge at the fact that i asked for all the errors to be corrected. Left feeling angry and wound up by incompitence & bad attitudes. Called in again today for a quick lunch with hubby... ordered sandwich and half way through found large blonde/grey hair entangled within the filling but sticking right out of the sandwich.... called over the waitress and she debated with me at the table about the colour of the hair (mine is black) how it could have got in there as the chef's are bald, No apology at any point until I asked for one. Staff do not have the basic's in Customer Service & looking at some of the comments on this page I would say they are probably just following the example set by the management. Once again left this etablishment feeling angry & wound up by muppets!

Decent management required
I've got to agree with Graham. The pub was overdue for a refurb, but it certainly didn't deserver a manger who seems not to care and have a very bad attitude to customer care and service, and that's when he can be bothered to make an appearance. The beer is at best average and that's on a good day. I never thought I'd say come back Pete and Debbie but there were 100% better.

Now a sizzler
The Sherwood has now been refit and rebranded as a sizzler. Started out quite well, but Keith, the new manager doesn't seem to know much about customer service, having a terrible attitude should anything be questioned. Also we realise he can't taste the beer, but at least you'd hope he'd have some idea how to keep it decent, sadly it seems not. A big disappointment.

Thomas the cat
I have some bad news regarding Thomas the cat.Unfortunately he is no longer with us.He was involved in an accident on Eastway on friday and consequently passed away.He was discovered by one of the bar staff namely Pieman and has since been buried by the landlady at the side of the pond.

Simply the best
Been open for 20 odd years and without doubt it currently has the best Landlord and Landlady the pub has ever had.The best pint of bitter available in lancashire and at 1.65 a pint its for nowt! The staff are always polite and its quick to get served.The Sherwood is a typical Local and will be missed when it changes to a Sizzlers pub.I dont think the brewery know what they are doing.Still the Sherwood Strollers will carry on regardless.

Awful Venue
The pub is dirty, still filth on the walls of the gents that has been there since the day the previous manager left. No definate closing time, call last orders at five to eleven and shut at ten past as an example, so no one knows if they are coming or going. Best to avoid this place.
