Food was over priced and poor quality

Great cider, soda water 1.50 mediocre food.
Gorgeous thatched country pub with sunny garden. The cider was good but charged 1.50 for straight soda water. The Sausage baguettes were half a baguette with sliced sausage heated through and onions and tiny salad garnish for 6.50 each. Sadly we will not be visiting again.

fantastic atmosphere and fine food
Having been decidedly average for decades, the Tichborne Arms now embodies everything that one expects but seldom finds in a traditional English pub. A great atmosphere, welcoming patrons, excellent food and fresh local ales, constantly changing, always good.
As someone else commented, can be quite riotous on occasion, but then if you don't like the sound of people laughing and having fun then may I suggest a library canteen as a viable alternative.

Proper English Pub
Stumbled across this quaint pub whilst walking The Itchen Way. We were worried about going in as our welly boots were caked in mud, no need to have worried as in the entrance were about 2 dozen other pairs. Wellies removed we found the only remaining seats at the lounge bar. What an atmosphere, everyone was friendly, the surroundings were so oldy worldy. My Husband can not stop talking about the lovely cask ale he had! It was a lovely experience, never been into a pub with no shoes before, will definitely come back again.

Disappointing, this time.
We took my mother for a 'birthday lunch' at the Tichborne Arms. Were unable to get to the small bar to order because of a noisy group of young men. We persevered and ordered roast dinners (sunday lunchtime). It soon became apparent that conversation would be impossible over the noise of the group of the bar. Another group came in and then left, presumably because of the continual shouting at the bar. We did not want to change our minds over food as we had ordered by this time. We asked the landlord whether there was anywhere quieter to eat. He said that there wasn't. The group of ten or so at the bar got very loud and raucous. The food came quickly and it was good. But we could do little but eat it and go as soon as possible. It would have been good to have the same freedom to talk to friends and family as those who were at the bar. Very disappointing and no concern for the well-being of everyone in the pub. It's good to see some merriment in the festive season but not to the detriment of others. It was apparent that we were not the only ones who felt this way.

Karen
soda and lime - very pricy
Lovely pub but the cost of a pint of soda and lime was 2.30! extortionate. When I commented to, I think, the landlady, she was very dismissive and told me this was the going rate. Not so! I drink this regularly and have NEVER paid as much as 2.30. Very disappointing attitude.

Great beer and good food!
Patrick and Nicky run an excellent country pub with very good quality food, well prepared and presented. There is a friendly old English feel to the pub.

There is sufficient variety on the menu to satisfy most and the beers are there for the true beer lovers left in this world. Barrels at the back of the bar, on tap and exactly as thre master brewer wanted you to taste them. What a joy.

Ambience and atmosphere
Firstly the folks are lovely, welcoming and friendly, the pub is not pretentious and offers warm atmosphere, great ale and lovely pub food. As a pub that did not, in my mind, have any special something in the past, the place feels great now, for daytime walking break or evening relaxing drink or food, thumbs up P & N, you have brought some spirit to the place.

Outstanding Beer and Fantastic Atmosphere
This is a proper pub, the new landlord and lady are very friendly and knowledgeable about the fantastic real ales on offer, allowing you to try before you buy! The food is good honest pub food and the ambience is fantastic, the resident labrador making the place feel all the more homely. The decor gives it a wondeful cosy feel, with a log fire constantly on the go. I cannot reccomend this pub more, for anyone wanting real ale and a real english pub, this is the place to go.
