Progressive drop in standards
We found this pub by accident one day and it took us months to find it again. We had loved iur first experience so much we were delighted to return, only to be sorely disappointed. The standard of the food had dropped considerably to the last time we were there. A ten pound burger came out looking really sparse like it had been thrown together on dry bread. When she complained that the burger which was quite pricey did not look worth the ten pound, the manager told her very arrogantly that that was the way it came. There is no way we will ever make the trip or the effort again. Whislt the scenery os very lovely and the pub could be good, the prices are rather high for what can only be classed as mediocre food.

An Absolute Gem Of A Pub
A beautiful country pub set in wonderful surroundings. The main bar area has been opened up to make a much more inviting area with the open fireplace making the winters snug and cosy. Families and Dogs are very welcome. The restaurant is well sited to allow for sectioning off for private functions which leads out to the beautiful landscaped beer garden and covered terrace area. A wide variety of functions can and have been held in the garden including weddings, christening parties and music festivals. The food is very very good home cooked style and the real ales are kept in very good condition. If you have not been to the Fox and Hounds in the last three years since Jeff and Fran Veal have owned it then you are truly missing out on a great pub.

Much better than it used to be
I've only got good things to say about the Fox & Hounds.

Since the new landlord, Phil Tatler, has taken over, the place has improved considerably.

The food is all fresh and the specials are cooked in the kitchen i.e. they are not just microwaved.

Phil puts on regular music events which is a big change from how things were before.

Last but not least I have to mention the fantastic 3-day summer Beer Festival which was a really enjoyable event with real ales and ciders, a host of different musical acts, a magician, a jester etc.

It's always difficult when a pub changes hands and I know that you'll never please everyone but I really don't think that the previous two comments reflect the improvements that have taken place at the Fox & Hounds over the past few months.

Gone downhill
I agree we were regulars before the current landlord took over at the end of last year and have found that our wonderful country pub has been let down by the new owner and his staff. Gone are the friendly faces and wonderful atmosphere to be replaced by very poor customer service standards and decidedly dodgy beer! Cleanliness has gone out of the window aswell.

Waste of time
We went to the fox and hounds on a sunday lunch time and found it to be a great dissappointment- it was very quiet with no atmosphere. The meal took a long time to arrive and was a let down. When we asked to speak to someone about this the staff were rude and we eventually found the landlord at the bar to drunk to help us. We walked out in disgust.
