About the Pub
This Weatherspoon pub, originally a bank, has a large inner bar with small rooms off. The normal Weatherspoon menu is served all day. The long bar is well stocked with chilled bottled beers and mixer drinks. There is also a good selection of keg beers, wines and malt whiskies. From the original banking days the large safe is still in evidence. For those of us who like to read with their lunch there is a well-stocked bookcase along one wall that one can choose a book from. If you want to take the book home you can ‘borrow’ it for a small fee which is given to charity. All in all with its vaulted ceiling, bustling chatter and abundance of staff the Standing Order is a pleasant experience right down to the pleasing citrus smelling restrooms!

Good Choice
It's only one and a half hours journey by train from Newcastle to Edinburgh and on our many visits our plans usually include a visit to this pub. We enjoy the good choice of real ales provided and the variety of food available. Lest I forget...........the prices of both are great.

Slurper
Typical Weaterspoons!!
Cheap food(freshly microwaved to order). Real Ales are varied at times but often poorly kept and served. Service is actually bad most of the time with poorly paid and disinterested world travellers as bar staff. Now with TVs to support Weatherspoons greed. Alcopops is definetly the word and underaged drinking encouraged!!! Popular place for getting pissed early and then moving on to better places. Budget and binge drinkers very welcome!!
