Maggie Dickson was a young girl who found herself pregnant out of wedlock. For this crime she was sentenced to death on the gallows! Somehow she survived the drop and her friends managed to retrieve her 'body' before the local medical students. She happily lived another forty years. The bar itself is rather dark but this is how many of the older places are in Edinburgh. It can be a busy bar but the service is good. Food is served in large portions and whiskies are bargain priced.
Like a plastic surgery-enhanced famous actress, this one's appealing from the outside, but that's exactly where you should leave it The clientele becomes severely annoying after 10 minutes or so, so make sure you have no sharp implements to hand.

Food stop!!
Lovely friendly pub. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Food was wonderful and very large quantities. Good selection of drinks especially cocktails. Good honest prices too!! Booths were nicely private, if a little eerie with the skulls but this all added ambience to the experience. Well done all!!!

Appalling Food
When the menu says seasonal vegetables it means frozen mixed vegetables, and they even overcook those. No wonder the staff don't ask how it was. Disgraceful.

What a joke!
The doorstaff were very professional but the staff who were obviosly drunk were awful. If I was the owner of this pub I would severly discipline any staff who were drunk in my pub but I'm not sure how the owner's run the place? I was very dissappointed with the straff who attacked us personally, were extremely rude and to topit off very drunk
