About the Pub |
|
The Blue Blazer is situated half way between the Grassmarket and Lothian Road. Blue is definitely the colour that catches the eye when walking past! It is known for it's good choice of cask ales and malt whiskies. Inside there are wooden floors, pews and a selection of Edinburgh prints adorning the walls. Customers usually consist of passing trade (from the Grassmarket), regulars and some theatre goers to the Lyceum just around the corner.

Finishing post in sight . . . best of luck for the final days. . . . prapehs the next adventure is via some form of public transport . . . . . give the body a rest Well Done Saturday, February 18, 2012 Rating: No rosettes
Called in for a pint and after 3-4 mins sitting at the bar, the barman started spraying and cleaning the brass pumps with Brasso ..very strong smell that spoilt my pint...this was at 9pm that the barman started cleaning the pumps...there is a time for this sort of thing...preferbly when there are no customers sitting next to pumps. +-TDaimler-+ A little beauty were told to go to the grass market on a friday night, spent night in pubs full of puking punching idiots, then stumbled up the road and in to this little gem! only got an hour before closing, but they had a great selection of scottish ales (6 or so?), good music and, at last, nice people!
Just had the worst pint in my life. Expensive drinks and the barmaid needs a lesson on customer service Saturday, October 8, 2011 Rating: No rosettes
Dr Bimper Nicol Rubbish Staff I will never ever enter this pub agin. Female staff member from Armagh insulting and disrespectful. She needs to go. Spoilt my whole holiday to Scotland. Saturday, October 8, 2011 Rating: No rosettes
This pub was great. My friend and i actually went twice while visiting edinburgh on holiday from the states. The bartenders were great and the local regulars even better. Could not have been at a better place for my first taste of scottish whiskey. A must if your ever in edinburgh and ladies the bartenders were very nice to look at. We were there august 13 and again on the 15 th 2011. Awesome time, you guys rocked!! Thursday, August 25, 2011
Oh dear sounds like the person below was with the group that got thrown out during the rugby. Everybody cheered when you left! Great pub with great beer, thats why its my local!
Lothian Lothario Blue Blazer : AVOID AT ALL COSTS People who want to enjoy a decent, friendly Edinburgh bar should avoid this place like the plague. The beer is good but the bar staff are completely obnoxious. A course in customer care and good manners wouldn't go amiss. This pub does NOT welcome rugby fans either. Greg Arlett whisky drinking If you want to have ice in a malt whisky go to a diferent bar....
You ignorant prat! I've been drinking whisky for 45 years and I always put a bit of water - sometimes ice - in it. What the hell's that got to do with anyone else? The barmaid should have been sacked on the spot.
Your cretinous attitude - that there's only one way to drink malt - annoys me big time and the sooner that attitude's drummed out of Scotland the better.
PS How would you like if a restaurant told you not to put milk in tea or coffee? Wednesday, July 28, 2010 Rating: No rosettes
Rüdiger Arlt, Bremen, Germany My first time in Edinburgh, even in Scotia, I spent last Friday night my best time in that really superb pub . Excellent ale and very nice other guests like Anne , born in New Zealand, which invited me to a book party some 100 yards away in a antique book shop. So thank you blue blazer and thank you Anne. With greetings from Rüdiger
Customer The best pub in edinburgh The beer is served perfectly and has the best selection of spirits in the city. As to the other comments the staff are excelent especially the take no nonsense bar maid. If you want to have ice in a malt whisky go to a diferent bar and keep your opinion to yourself. The barmaid in question in my opinion is the best thing about the place and with out her it has never quite been the same.
but I stopped going there because the 'snidy' barmaid was so rude one night I refused to go back - but as I hear she has gone (I heard to canada not oz)...I'll be back : ) Thursday, August 13, 2009
Best pub in edinburgh hands down, and the snidey barmaid that told people not to have ice in their whisky has p!ssed off to Australia, so no fears on that side. The rest of them are very nice, even the reprobate bar manager and Old tory drunk landlord.
More whisky, gin and rum than you can shake a stick it. Gerritdoonyah!
Don't know what a fri/Sat night would be, but on 2 afternoons the place was a perfect pub setting. It has a great selection of may favorite spirits Rum, Bourbon and whiskey. Pints are good as well. The staff and locals were very friendly.
There really is nothing worse than a pub bore, be they staff or customer, offering unsolicited advice on what you should and shouldn't do with your drink (i.e. ice in whisky). In my experience of this bar you will generally not be hassled in this manner. However, you cannot legislate for every customer/regular and if it happens to you I would just try to ignore it and not allow it to spoil your enjoyment of this otherwise pleasant bar. Re. the toilets. I am afraid they are not always in good nick and , although it is not an excuse, the same could be said for almost all of the other bars round and about. It is probably fair to say that the time of your visit may influence all of the above; it must be a tricky business to meet all of the demands of a very busy bar on a Fri/Sat night, versus 3pm on a wet Wednesday...
phil kenefick indescribable Has anyone been there recently We were there 24th may 2008 and the pub was grotty the toilets were grotty The bar staff only OK The customers not too welcoming Monday, May 26, 2008 Rating: No rosettes
Wannabe jock What a pub should be A quality establishment that is hard to better. A fine spot to taste some of Scotland's finest, with friendly bar staff to boot.
In response to the gentleman's previous comment, the bar staff are, in my opinion, fantastic, with an extensive knowledge of the drinks they stock. They are helpful, polite and I count them all as friends. I highly recommend this pub to anyone who likes live music (sunday nights) a warm atmosphere, and somewhere to enjoy a fine pint of ale. For the record, you DONT drink whisky with ice in it, as most whisky drinkers, including myself, will tell you. I am glad to hear you wont darken the doors of this lovely, friendly pub again.
brian smith worst pub in edinburgh for abnoxious bar staff don't go to the blue blazer unless you wan't to be hassled by 'know it all' bar staff. A request for whisky with a cube of ice was met by the comment ' that's not how you drink whisky' ! That kind of attitude was last heard in the dark ages. Very old fashioned and out of time kind of place Monday, July 17, 2006 Rating: No rosettes

canadian scottie outstanding The best pub in edinburgh hands down! Super atmosphere. Warmly traditional. Seemingly endless selection of casks and beers plus the most comprehensive list of rum and bourbon you will find and with prices that fit the drink. Good for the soul, unlike the trendy glowing pretention palace across the street from it. A friendly place with friendly people. Go there now!! Monday, December 12, 2005
Not only a fine selection of real ales but also the biggest rum (40) and bourbon (20) selections in edinburgh. Camara pub of the year for the area. What more do you want from a city centre two room bar. Tuesday, November 16, 2004
