About the Pub
As you can see from the picture, Drop Kick Murphys was formerly known as Bertie's. For many years this was a late night drinking establishment in the Old Town. Now, as Drop Kick Murphys, this is the latest addition to Edinburghs Irish themed music bars. The bar is open from 8pm until 3am.

Rude staff on night out
While out listening to music in a Grassmarket bar last night, I ran into the staff of Dropkick Murphys on a staff night out. One man, who I was told was the bar owner, tried to get me to dance, and when I wasn't interested, attempted to forcibly pull me up. Then, apparently unable to understand that I didn't want him anywhere near me, he continued to harass us, putting his feet up on our table and sticking his finger in my ear. Meanwhile, one of the other Dropkicks staff was hassling the musician, licking him and sticking his tongue in his ear despite repeated requests to stop – had the singer been female, this would certainly have been seen as sexual assault. In the end, we had to request that this guy be removed from the bar.
To their credit, most of the staff were just drunk and having fun, and several did apologise on behalf of their less pleasant colleagues. Nonetheless, while none of this happened in Dropkick Murphys itself, I'm certainly not going to return to a bar where the owner harasses and manhandles women and allows his staff to intimidate and inappropriately touch staff in another bar.

Best weekend ever!!!
Went here last weekend with the girls and had the most fun I have ever had and will 100% be returning ASAP! relaxed dress code, live music, £3 entry, resonible alcohol prices, friendly staff, and the door staff arent on a constant power trip like most other places, what more could you want from a weekend? Dropkicks is a must!!

I cant believe I only discovered Dropkick Murphys a few days ago...its round the corner from where I work. The best Cocktails I have had in ages and a really cosy atmosphere. The dress code is relaxed, but don't let that fool you into thinking this bar isn't classy Ill definately be back

Awful
I visited dropkicks last week for the first time, and i will never ever be back. How this can be one of the best bars in Edinburgh is beyond me, the place was disgusting! I was met in the door by two rude security guards, then was hit by the overpowering smell of hundreds of sweaty drunks - not the most appealing thing in the world let me assure you. After ten minutes of trying to work my way through a huge scrum of shouting, jumping and in one case - fighting customers, I only just saw the bar and was met by the sight of two stressed barstaff, giving horrific service, some of the worst pints ive ever seen! So i left, and will never go back! People listen! There are much better places to go than this dive!

OK
But I miss the Berties days. Back in '93 Berties was alive and kicking, and when I went back to work in Edinburgh in 2000 it was still there. I had hoped it would have become an edinburgh landmark. Oh well :(

Awesome bar
this is a great bar for when most bars close at 1am. Quite expensive but not so bad. 3 for 2 deals are good. Its never really that packed, and its a great place to hang out when you want to keep drinking till 3 and you dont want to bother going to espionage or stereo

Worst pub in edinburgh...AVOID IT
Most ignorant, undignified door and bar staff ever, thay have no respect for any of their customers, i have seen them manhandle so many people and roughly throw them outside, even saw one of their men hitting a girl. drink is far too expensive anyway, its filthy and everyone is so packed in its so uncomfortable. definitely a place to avoid.

Mighty craic
I spent the best 6 months of my life in Edinburgh and most of that was spent in dropkicks. I was there the day we beat england. What a session. Heavy handed door staff even though they are irish. Still, mighty craic.

A welcome change from Berties
It's actually clean now and the drinks taste how they should. They don't do cheap stuff anymore but it's a hundred times better. From an Irish point of view,it kicks Finnegan's ass!!
