Val Does A No. 2
This pub has recently been taken over by Val Mills aka 'the hostess with the mostest'. Val is a real pleasure behind the bar as she has a warm and friendly personality and makes all customers feel extremely welcome. With a good mix of all ages this is the busiest pub in town and offers a varied selection of live entertainment most weekends. So why not pay a visit where Val and her team will make sure your pint is always full.

if you want a number two ...
Formerly Hogshead this has been renamed 'No. 2' - strangely enough - because it is at No. 2 Baker Street. They didn't spend much time pondering over that name then and saved a fortune on the signwriting. A nice cosy bar with good service - that's what it's all about and their 'neebors' across the road could learn a lesson or two here. The pub seems to have shaken its 'lesbos' tag which it had under its former name although a hairy female did walk past me on the way to the toilet. (In hindsight though it might have been an overweight real ale drinker with man breasts). Friendly staff and good pub grub seem to be order of the day. Great service from Stevie, Graham and Mark the Manager. On the downside it has a leaking roof which has been tarpauliuned until they can fix it and a television which you have to be crane necked to see. It's at a really odd angle and surely the only way you can view it is whilst doing a rubber man impression? There is a once monthly disco with DJ Ewan - the man from Europa Music further down Friars St. He wears one of these annoying rainbow coloured jumpers and also wear tye-dye t- shirts. (Not the kind of guy you want to walk into Porters Bar with). He plays an eclectic mix of, well, 70's rock which many will agree was rock's finest hour. For a 50 year old Ewan does well and even has his own collection of vamps who seem to follow him about wherever he goes. (Must be the tye dye t-shirts - must get one). On a Wednesday night around 9pm you can also listen to some traditional Scottish music from 'The Shiftin' Bobbins' - a group of anything from 3 to 12 musicians who turn the pub into a mecca for scots folk music afficiandos. (I like the bird that plays the Bhodrun personally myself). So a good pub with great real ale and service to die for!!!
