Mr Diddly Squat
Phoenix Rising
After its demise as the 'Crown Inn' in the hands of a failed local businessman it turned into a 'Pizza Express' and latterly a Mexican restaurant called 'Pancho Villas'. However this place has lain empty for the last few years as both of these ventures failed as well. Many locals believe that was as a result of a curse put on it by one of the deceased former patrons. The good news though is that it is to reopen quite soon as a 'Hogshead' pub which is quite strange because there used to be a 'Hogshead' pub at No. 2 Baker Street but that turned into No. 2 Baker Street. At least in its latest recreation the entrance will be on King Street rather than in the Crawford Arcade. This will ensure than any undesireable customers can be ejected onto a busy thoroughfare rather than into the shadows of the Crawford Arcade which will please the cup cake seller as its hard enough making a living selling over inflated fairy cakes as it is.

Graeme Muir
Long gone
This pub ceased trading in the late 90's and was turned into a pizza restaurant. It then became a Mexican restaurant but is now closed. It was bought from Scottish &Newcastle in 1993 by James Ferguson - a local conman. Under his ownership it quickly declined into a poor state mostly because he catered for alcoholics, drug dealers and shop lifters. After a brief spell it was leased out before being sold to make way for a restaurant. Many locals still despise the fact that James Ferguson was responsible for buying a 100 year old pub and overseeing it's demise in a calculated and deliberate way.
