an outsider's view
While we did hear locals rave about this place, as Sassenachs (foreigners), our experience was quite different. It's true that I shouldn't have ordered gammon steak not knowing what it is, but it's also true that our waitress should not have told me that it's a pork chop (it's not; it's ham too salty to eat). Nor should Highlanders be expected to make chips as good as they do down south. Perhaps my son shouldn't have ordered his steak medium rare if he didn't want it still bleeding, but they might have done more than re-warm the edges when he requested it be cooked further (and it was gristley). In all fairness, my husband ordered the fish cakes, and enjoyed them. The mushrooms were delicious, too. Of the three of us, however, two were disappointed with our meals. What good are generous portions of inedible meat and limp, soggy chips?
