Great friendly Irish pub w/great music
I lived across the road from the Huntercombe Pub for 3 years. As an American living in the UK, as soon as I began to speak during my first time there, I was amazed by the friendly atmosphere and genuine interest in how and why I came to be there. The proprietors, Pat & Trish, and their adult children ran the place as a family friendly neighborhood local. Although some food was served, the pub was mainly a drinking and social gathering place. I made a lot of friends there and got to know all of the irregulars on a first name basis. On weekends during the fall and winter months, live music was playing, ranging from traditional Irish songs on Sunday afternoons, to loud American-style rock-n-roll. One of the best neighborhood blues bands, Brock and the Badgers, played there often. One of their classic numbers was a cover of Jimi Hendrix's version of Red House. I used to harass them when I walked in on a Saturday night by yelling Red House as my request, never to be disapointed.
