About the Pub
This is a very popular place for dining and drinking alike! At weekends you have to reserve a dining table! It's a great place in summer when you can sit outside by the canal. They have B&B rooms and attached to the pub is Guy's Court Italian restaurant.

A very lively place at almost any time of day. Good for both eating or drinking. This has a very rustic feel with open fires and traditional flagged floors. Well-kept real ale.

As pubs close at a rate of 40 per week....Its still here.... In my eyes that means the pub is doing something right unlike it many competitors!!!!!!

Carry on Owd Nell's and the Wilkinson Family... Happy 24th Birthday.

well past its sell by date
As its near to my office, i went to the pub and the attached italian restaurant. The pub food was greasy, cheap stodge that i thought pub's had stopped serving years ago. The italian restaurant was slightly better but it is all relative and still very poor. All in all, living on its reputation and attractive location by the canal.

Never again, a dreadful experience.
Last night my family had the worst meal out ever, steak in a sauce served on a very cold plate, scraps of chips that tasted like they had been there since lunchtime. A tasteless ploughmans lunch that had thin fatty ham (supposed to be off the bone) two lumps of bland cheese and a mound of what i think was supposed to have passed as coleslaw ! We decided not much could be wrong with a dessert, but no, the banoffee pie was stale the cream was just 'turning', and i who love my puds couldn't eat a second mouthful. The boys had icecream with chocolate flakes, and unbelievably even the chocolate was stale, they wouldn't eat it, said it tasted funny, they were right. Nothing was done when we complained, the manager didn't seem interested at all. To cap it all, myself and partner have felt quite sick all today, no coincidence surely. A dreadful experience and a complete and utter waste of nearly £50.00. I am writing a letter wether it will do any good or not i don't know, but i don't think they should get away with treating customers like this.

Un-equalled in the area.
Owd Nell's, situated along a stretch of the Lancaster Canal which serves an array of seafood and shellfish not un-equalled in the area.

Owd Nell's tavern serves a daily specials menu than includes a pint tankard of fresh prawns in the shell, Conamarra mussels in the pot with cream white wine, parsley, garlic, and loads of chunky granary bread to mop up the sauce…MMMmmmmmmm. I had a huge portion of Fresh Fleetwood Cod & Chips ( a size to remember!!) Fleetwood Whale more like it. It was coated in a thin crispy beer batter that’s was so tasty I asked for A bag of bits loads of salt and vinegar washed down with a pint of real ale!!!!! Also featured on the menu's are Homemade fresh goujons of plaice which were a real favourite with the children. Fresh poached Scottish salmon flaked and placed on a thick slice of freshly cut granary bread and served with a dill mayonnaise dressing. My mother had plump prawn and avocados also feature on the menu served with a home made Marie Rose sauce dashed with a little paprika. Baked Scottish Salmon Steak with a spring onion, garlic, cream and tomato sauce tried aswell.

All in all we had a faboulous afternoon by the Canal watching the kids feed the ducks, and the ducks were grateful for the feed.

Well Done Owd Nell!!!

Re:- Not worth the trip
As a follow up to the last entry, My wife Ellen was very sick after eating at this place, she put it down to the fat content and poor quality food! we are so annoyed that no one wanted to listen to our complaint, maybe they think they are to big to bother about complaints!

Not worth the trip
Went for a meal Tuesday 20th June 2006, the meal was cold, was saturated in fat, the meat was tough and the whole thing in genral was a let down! Even when complained nothing was done! Never again! What a waste of my £28.00.

Clare.....You DON'T know what you're talking about
Clare, I think you went to a different pub!
My family and I hve been coming to Owd Nell's for years. It has to be one of the best pubs in the North. There is an excellent choice of meals and a vast selection of cask ales.

terrible-tasteless-fast food outlet
It was e terrible experience never to go through again unless you have children and a longing to spend a night in a disney fastfood style restaurant. The menus require a magnifying class they are so jumbled with selling the history of the place which is based on vast generailisations about how eating out started which of course we all need to know. The staff unsmiling and not particularly friendly and lastly the food, so it appears you get lots of it but thats to cover the fact that it tastes of nothing. Having opted for a nice ploughmans salad, i mean not much can go wrong it doesnt require cooking! The ham didnt taste like fresh of the bone, the pickled veg well they could have been pickled anything it was like biting a lemon, the salad was tastless, with sweetcorn which was just water and the cheese was far from farmhouse and more mass bought, i couldnt tell the diffference between the two choices except one was bright orange and the other yellow.. You may get a lot but as with all things it's not the quantity its the quality and everything here tasted like cheap brands. When i did complain the waitress didnt even apologise. You think she would know it was a genuine complaint with the fact the plate look like it did when i was served it!

One more factor the teenages smoking constantly might also put you off wanting to stay very long!

Poor Service
My parents and I eat here all the time, but the last few visits have been a lot lower than there normal standard. I feel that a once lovley place is not looking after the locals or the regular clients because they are so busy now that you have to book 2 hours in advance which means that they don't need there loyal customers.
