 Not great.
Absolutely awful place. Don’t go in the evening unless you’re willing to endure the landlady’s horrific rendition of Adele’s ‘make you feel my love’. Staff are rude and drunk, landlady drinking and serving in between offending people’s ears. Whole place dirty, toilets unclean.

 Yewtree car park,.and beer
The beer and food at the yew tree is very good and value for money, the car park is for patrons and not an overflow car park for the school every time there's an evening function on ,the man has a business to run so customers see the car park full and think that the pub is full when in fact its empty so I agree with the landlord and I would clamp cars never mind tell you to leave.

 Agressively manhandled !
Having visited the Fox and Goose on numerous occasions over the past 10 years, from being in my early 20s to now my early30s, I have never had a bad experience - always a good night, until Saturday just gone that is. I stepped outside to phone my husband to come and pick me up, to find my battery had gone. I went to go back inside, to be told by the bouncer I was too drunk !! Admittedly, yes, I'd had a drink, but I wasn't falling all over the place, and certainly wasn't as drunk as some other people I had witnessed. All my stuff was inside and the bouncer tried to convince me that my friend who I was with had left 20 mins before hand, which given I had just left her, was no where near the truth. I was then escorted like a thug back in to find my friend, which I did and forcefully removed, leaving my friend to collect my belongings for me. I was totally appaled by the treatement received. Yes, I'd had a drink, but to be manhandled, leaving bruises on my arms, and to try and be convinced that my friend had left, is bang out of order, some other poor girl might have just gone off wandering round town at 12 o'clock at night.

Even now, three days later when I think about it, I'm still very angry and am afraid to say that it will certainly be my last visit to the Fox and Goose !

 Nice Pub & Friendly People
This is my favourite place to go on a Saturday night.
They always have a band every Saturday, and some are very, very good. 'insanity beach' is my favourite.
Cheap beer, £3 for a pint of lager and £2 to get through the door, which is not that bad.

Bad Points.
Staff are a bit dopey. They do not seem to grasp the idea of serving people in turn. They will work hardish behind the bar, but ned to look up to see who is next in line for serving.

Also, sad to say. The place could do with a good clean. i hate it when you touch a surface and it is sticky. Why the manager does not chase the staff round to clean before it gets busy is beyond me.
But overall, a very good night out with no trouble in the year or so i have visited. Door staff are fine, not sure where the punter gets his idea of aggression by door staff from, as they seem fine to me.

Well worth a visit.

Dont Jump to Conclusions
 Poor service from pub
Basically got jumped on to move my car from the pub carpark tonight. I was dropping my daughter off at school for a film night then I was going in the yew tree for 2 hours whilst she was at school. Got a mouth full told I couldnt park and was threatened that if I didnt move my car they would shut the gates so I couldnt get out how childish. GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT PLEASE I DIDNT DESERVE THAT I know some people from the school use the car park for drop off I was not. We have had letters from the head teacher. WENT THE HAYFIELD INSTEAD NEVER GOING THE YEW TREE AGAIN

An old regular
Terrible food, terrible service, average price.
This little country pub used to be a little gem but unfortunately, like most other pubs, the chef's that had been working for many years left around 3-4 years ago. This meant that their was a tremendous amount of bad chefs that took their place.
A big shame really as this place used to be extremely busy!

 DOGGIE FRIENDLY!!!!!!!!!
Visited the Heatons Bridge Inn a few times now and is a firm favourite with us. A very friendly welcome to us on our first visit and also, to say it is doggie friendly is the understatement of the century! Whenever we go in for a meal, the chef also sorts a special dish for our dog. (Steak and sausages last time!)
The service from barstaff to the chef (hope I haven't missed anyone out!) is second to none.
The food served has always been extremely tasty, value for money and there is no such thing as a small portion. (Even Sydney agrees with that!) The beers are always spot on, Sydney says he's never had a had pint here.
All the regulars are friendly and love to see our Syd when we go in.
So a big 5 rosettes from us and 10 lick and tails wags from Syd!

 Best Bar in Town!!!
I have visited the Fox & Goose on quite a few occasions and always had a great night out. Other customers always have always been friendly and bar staff attentive, even on the busiest nights. Live bands on weekend nights with a £2:00 cover charge, (where else can you see a decent band for less than the price of a pint?) excellent!!! Overall a real Rock Bar, I can't recomend it enough.

As to the negative comments I've read below......... What are you talking about?

Jack & Jill ?!!
Take People as You Find them !!
Live music most weekends, not all to our taste, some very good £2pp on the door to pay per band, drinks reasonable price, hard to get served when busy, bar staff serve out of turn on a regular basis, but do work hard, have seen minor trouble over the years that we have been going but thanks to the doormen who nip the trouble in the bud ,suggest if you want to dance then stick to the dance floor.

 Nothing but trouble
I have frequented the fox & goose a few times & every time i have witnessed some form of aggression from the ( so - called ) doormen ( APES ). I have witnessed my female friends thrown out by the doormen, using force that is totally unacceptable. But as the previous person says you are by default at fault
They should try being a little more welcoming & they would probably see more custom. And if you are gay, bi or lesbian dont even attempt to go in, you will be thrown out with force at some point during your night out.

I have recently started going back to the fox and goose as i found out its under new management and i must say its a huge difference!

The music is fantastic, the bands they have are great and now they also do an indie/ rock night on a thursday with local bands.

This pub is a dive for inbred quarterwits.
This hole has about as much charm as a dog turd. And the fat has been bikers that drink there smell just as bad. And all the women are at least ten pinters and thats if their lucky.
There are more inbeeds there than the fritzel family, what a bunch of idiots they give rock music a bad name. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!

 To be avoided
The Fox and Goose has undergone many changes over the years. When I first started to go there it was somewhat of a dive, part of its charm, and was friendly enough. However, since new management has taken over all you can expect is karaoke and expensive prices. Also, though I have relatively little trouble myself I know of several friends that have been the subject of much harassment by the owner for no apparent reason, which has led on multiple occasions to my friends being removed from the premises, at least once using unnesessary force (actually throwing punches). I myself was the victim of a small act of aggression for simply asking why my friend was being removed from the premises (as it transpires he had been punched in the face and the bouncer had something of a grudge against him). In short you can expect any manner of abuse for no apparent reason. If you do run into trouble and would like to try contacting the police I can guarentee that by default your at fault, though that will happen anywhere in Southport. Have fun...and stay the hell away from the Fox and Goose.

 cleanliness
I have been a regular at the Imp for about the last 10 years but over the last month standards have definitely dropped. Not enough bar staff on busy nights, and cleanliness. The ladies toilets are disgusting - god knows what the kitchens are like. And tonight was like the pub with no drink!! No coke bottled or draught and no soda.

If according to manage its a resturant, how come one of my friends was told on the 23rd December that they could have no food till 8pm at 4.30pm in the afternoon. And also was told that as it was a pub her 7 year old son would have to leave? Does this new manage know anything?

Don't bother going if you value customer service
Don't bother going if you value customer service - this pub doesn't. We used to visit regularly, but one week the chef had decided to finish early so the barman refused to take our order despite agreeing that he should still be able to. The manager was 'unavailable' to speak to us and the chef refused to, so we left. I wrote to the manager Mr Peat for his comments. After three weeks he still hasn't bothered to reply.

Fantastic value for money and home cooking
We have frequented the Volunteer Arms on many occasions, it is like being at home, the food is something else, just like moms cooking, especially the gravy!!! The landlady mets us at the door with a warm and friendly welcome, and makes us feel special. We enjoyed the regular entertainment, it is great to be in a traditional pub with friendly people and bar staff. We would highly recommend a visit.

 mravellous food, warm welcome
The landlady met us at the door with a very warm greeting, and cooked us a marvellous meal, and we still cannot work out how she did it for the price. Would reccomend it to anyone without the slightest hesitation, did think of kidnapping her to ccok for us at home, the regulars were like old friends and made us feel really welcome and the bar staff were more than helpful, cant praise it enough. Our granddaughters hazel rose and annemarie thought it was great too.

My valentine and I were served a lovely 5 course meal at the Saracen's Head today, St Valentine's day.
