I would like to comment on Rowenas comment . I have been going to the Lea Cross for a few years now and i have to say Ruth and Phil are the most child friendly people i know, what is a problem is when the child/children are not supervised by the parents and allowed to run riot. If someone had spilled hot gravy or soup on your child Rowena what would you have said then??? It is NOT SAFE for a child to be leap frogging round the restaurant, and people who are out for a nice quiet Sunday dinner away from the kids quite frankly do not want to hear or see it. I think you should probably look a little closer to home? Its a great pub, great food, great couple who run it and my daughter who is 41/2 loves going there. Highly Recommended for children.

mavis1977 How refreshing!
I am a mother of two young boys and we eat at the Let Cross Tavern whenever we get the chance. My boys understand that when in a public house they are to sit and play quietly at the table, as a pub is essentially an adult environment. I have been at for tavern on occasions that the staff have had to ask parents to ensure their children do not run around, and as a parent I actually find this quite refreshing as I would rather eat my meal without feeling like I'm in a chain playbarn! Shame that can't be said for all parents! Anyway, onto the pub! If you like well prepared, fresh, locally produced homemade food, then this is the place for you. They have a good range of wines and beers including local ales. Sunday lunches are really good quality and value for money and the steaks are to die for! Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Ruth Leaman In response to Rowena,
My name is Ruth and i run the Lea Cross Tavern with my partner Phil, we have been running the pub for two and a half years and welcome all families and children of all ages. We have always provided a children's menu, highchairs, child friendly drinks and a welcome atmosphere for them. I am replying to Rowena's message on this site, as it upsetting that the person in question is choosing to slander us on the internet rather than complain in person. Rowena has been a customer of ours on many occasions and on the day she bought along her little boy for a meal, she was not charged for his drink, he also did not have a meal although he was age appropriate but instead offered a plate to share with his mother. From the moment they came through the door they were treated with patience, even though the boy was leap-frogging up and down the dining room. However as other tables started filling up and customers were putting down their knives and forks in frustration, the patience wore thin and Rowena was told to take charge of her child instead of being on her mobile phone throughout the ordeal. I completely understand that sometimes it is difficult to take young children out for lunch, but there has to be a certain level of discipline on the parent responsible rather than leaving it to management of the premises they are visiting. I of course would like to make amends, but as a final note there are always two sides of the story and it is very sad that this discussion is not in person. Kind regards Ruth.

We pre booked food 2 days in advance for 12:30, they didn't take a name or contact number at this time we had to offer it... Got to the pub at 12:25 and got our drinks... no food by 12:45 so I asked a lad who disappeared into the kitchen, he did not come back to me to let me know what was happening. Food eventuallly came out at 13:07... what was the point of them taking our pre order if they were not gonna do it.... served rushed and with a don't care attitude... Food ok but not the best...

Visited the Corbet last week, it is situated in a village setting on the banks of the River Severn with its own bowling green......If that is not enough the premises has been refurbished to an extremely high standard, quality beer and an exellent menu are provided by attentive staff. There is also bed and breakfast accomodation which will soon be available. I was fortunate enough to view the rooms which were furnished to a very high standard.

Just been there for lunch and found the experience very enjoyable. The pub has been renovated to a very high standard. The food was very good and the staff were friendly. The only negative aspect was that there was only one vegetarian dish, which is disappointing. Overall, I would recommend this pub.

Ed Thomas Great Food, Great Pub
We visitied the Corbet on Saturday night for a friends birthday, as a table of ten we were all very impressed by the service and standard of food. Although you can tell the waitress were still finding there feet, they always had a smile and helped with any queries. I have read through some of the reviews and am slightly baffeled, as there was music in the background and plenty of picturs on the wall. Also the comment about sit eat and go was a little strange as you can go through to the bar where we sat and relaxed over a beer or two. If you get the chance try a 'cornish knocker' a very nice real ale.

Was nice to sit out on the patio and hope that the bowls will still be played there. Bit expensive just for casual meal/drink but worth an occasional visit. Think will stick to The Two Henry's

Corbet Arms at Uffington holds many fond memories for me ,so I was keen to visit following the obvious transformation that has been taking place for a long time, although the transformation is very nice I think there is still some tweeking that is required to create the atmosphere that matches the building, I always find it a great shame that many refurbished places lack that space for you to retreat to either before your meal or after, it feels like a case of enter ,sit at your table eat your food then go,having said that the menu was well priced and the food was hearty, the tables are a bit flimsy and some background music would be nice along with some pictures etc to create some character and atmospere, hopefully when the waitresses have settled in they will acquaint themselves with the menu abit more it is always nice when they no what they are serving and can answer your questions or queries our waitress was very vague, I would say do away with the small glass of beer that sits on the plate with the steak pudding, and why do restaurants always give you rock hard butter that is virtually impossible to spread on fresh bread, overall I would visit again when they have been up and running abit longer , the outside terrace is very nice especially on a pleasant day or evening £33 for 2 starters , 2 mains 1 beer and a medium rossi wine so a reasonably priced nice village pub.

Dan Reed Its totally a reborn pub must be visited
since the corbet arms had been left neglected for many years and it was in a sad states of affairs too until recently I heard its a totally refurbished pub and is very light and GREAT food my gosh my friend was not wrong! I went the other night and had a drink or too and I couldn't sit without not looking around at the sheer beauty of the place I then today 12th june had lunch and I had sausages mash and onion gravy and it was most tasty and thy best local bangers and mash I have EVER tasted with no exaggeration! I also being a young disabled guy I loved being going into the pub and going up the ramp and not going up steep stairs nor going those dangerous stairs to where the old gents which those stairs where lethal to go up and down from it amazed me too how disabled friendly the place was and how friendly the new staff were too and I am booking for sunday lunch for definite and possibly every sunday lunchtime as the food is so so good I would recommend them for getting rosette or awards for their service and food if people don't visit the reborn corbett inn they DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE MISSING AS THE CORBETT ARMS IS THE BEST PUB IN SHREWSBURY in my opinion. I also warn if you want sunday dinner or a evening meal I would book a table if you want togo in groups in case you get disappointed but there were tables available when I was there but you may have to wait a little while for table in rush hours so I would book a table to avoid disappointment. IT a great pub I just can't wait to sunday

I remember it being featured in the Sun (or was it the Mirror) as what not to do to a pub. Now a normal local again. Hope we can reclaim the Blackbull in Paradise back like this.

pitbull This is in Wem as well. DIFFERENT TOWN, HOSTS!
The 2 previous reviewers have quite reasonably thought this to be the one in Shrewsbury, especially as that one is just off the High Street. Please hosts, the 01939 phone code means it is not in Shrewsbury! Only include under Shrewsbury if it's 01743!

Boozer tucked away down an alley, good atmosphere. Always seem to keep their beer well.

pitbull This is NOT the one in Shrewsbury
The map puts this in Ruyton XI Towns. There is another Admiral Benbow (a good real ale pub) in Shrewsbury town centre which I'd give 4 rosettes. Note to whoever hosts this site: As a general rule, places where the phone code is not 01743 are not in Shrewsbury. Ignore the postcode, SY includes half of Wales as well as three-quarters of Shropshire.

pitbull Don't go when it's raining!
Famous as the most often flooded pub in England (at least before the barriers were built). Seems a traditional/local kind of place, despite being quite central. Can't complain about that.

I've never actually been able to face this place. A Wacky Warehouse, you can hear the screaming kids half a mile away.

Large pub a bit out of the town centre (not really very near the abbey actually). Seems nice enough, lots of space and reasonably good value

Packed at weekends. Bigger than you'd think from outside- has a kind of cave annexe in the back. Standard keg booze.

Full of chavs, freaks and druggies. Crap beer too. Can't recommend it. (And why is it called this when it's nowhere bloody near Yorkshire?)

Was the OLD Plough, now aptly named. All boarded up now. Apparently the lease ran out and wasn't renewed, heard it's going to be a clothes shop. Another fine Shrewsbury pub bites the dust (see Blackbull in Paradise, Proud Salopian).

pitbull Get the name right!
It's called the Plume of FEATHERS About 10 miles SE of Shrewsbury, under Wenlock Edge just off the Bridgnorth road. Only been there once, seemed a decent enough pub

THE place to watch football in Shrewsbury. 2 big screens and about 5 or 6 smaller ones. Yet it's still a cosy, friendly pub. Drinks are cheap for Shrewsbury. Sunday night quiz is damn difficult though!

This place has had more reincarnations than the Dalai Lama. It's now called Rowleys. It ceased to be Jacksons about 2001, then became something that escapes me, been Rowleys about 12 months.

this was a pub ii was told too stay clear of and when we entered the pub it was clear why we never lauhged so much it hurt it was surposed to be a nasty pub but all we could find was people enjoying them selves they could not of made us as welcome, they even watched our children when we went to the bar the staff were good they could not do enough for us i hope this email would help save the pub as i would not bother had i not of ben efffected by the kindness of all the regulars in the pub i know yuo only want money in your pockets and this would suite you but you cant always take the easy option i hope you take into account the impact this will take on the local comunity please save the HARLESCOTT INN plersa it will turn out to be a gold mine if you turn it into a major food outlet

great food but we had to wait one and a half hours, the place had far too many people for them to cope with so service went out the window and nobody showed any common courtesy to offer an apology or any form of reduction, very very disapointing!!!!!
