 Wrong pub ?
Think you must have gone to the wrong place, the food is very good, all fresh with fabulous choices and a young staff in bar and restaraunt ared. The beer is fairly priced with a good choice of continental lagers and more importantly locally brewed real ales, well worth a visit.

 Rubbish pub
This pub is ok if you're over the age of 60, the sunday dinner is fresh out of the freezer, none of it is actually made and it's boiled to an inch of it's life!, the landlady is always drunk and a gobby chav, decor hasn't changed for the last 20+ years, alcohol is VERY over priced ( have to cover the landladies free drinks for herself i suppose ) oh and the lager is flat as hell too, give this pub a very wide berth, the regulars are leaving in droves because they just don't like the place anymore and the people who run it are arrogant, plenty of better places to go to

Since its refurbishment I have been disappointed on both my visits. Portions have shrunk, food was cold, prices have risen and the staff as wonderful as ever are not as attentive as they were, we waited over half hour after asking for icecream....not a difficult dessert. Plates were left on the table for ages and we could hear other dinners as unimpressed as us.

 Hornblower Closed???
Is this pub open or closed - this is my husband's favourite watering hole in Newport. Likes the music loud, decent ales and its selective pub regulars. Who is going to run the pub to its full potential? We would like a clean pub, great staff and an even better jukebox. I'll just have to win the lottery then.

 Cold Food
Nice pub, friendly staff. Have had a lot of meals there over the years and up until recent months have, on the whole enjoyed them. These days I have noticed a lot of the meals are luke warm at best, especially the Sunday roasts which seem to have cold food, soggy vegetables and hot gravy. After having a barely warm meal for two weeks running I told them my meal was barely warm, no problem they said and took it away and over cooked it in the microwave. We wont be back.

Fantastic! I had the mixed grill and my husband the whopping 32oz mixed grill-which he ate all of. For under 10 it is superb value for money and the meat all cooked to perfection. We have been back since and the standard was just as high-definately will be returning soon!! Highly recommended.

 Awesome pub
Awesome selection of real ales, best rock duke-box i've seen. Fantastic night to be had when theres a live band on - oh and dont forget to check out Rasher the monkey behind the bar - perfect right down to the orange hair and scale model of my bass!

Brilliant pub, and hope not to be accused of being biassed.

Saw GTFBi in the 'blower last Saturday - they were / are truly amazingly awesome for pub rock this is AS GOOD AS IT GETS. to see their singer hanging upside down from the beams belting out King of the swingers should be something every newportonian should see at least once in their lifetime. Hey why stop at Newportonians? everyone in the world should see this band in this pub - t's unbeleivable

 Ha ha!
On the website it says 'This is an all round pub welcoming everyone'. Yeah right! One of the coldest and most unwelcoming atmospheres around. Still, at least the bar staff wear branded uniforms and we all know how important that is.

great atmosphere, great beer, great service
unlike other local pubs, the ridgeway always has plenty of barstaff and there is never much of a wait to be served, even when busy. the ridgeway has a busy (long) bar and an intimate lounge, so plenty of room to be served. beers are ALWAYS served in the correct branded glasses eg. stella in stella glasses etc.

 A long wait
There is never enough barstaff at the handpost and the staff that are there only want to serve the large scowling blokes who hang around the bar. avoid.

A great night on the weekend...
...if the band is good. Rest of the week pretty empty. Good atmosphere, good beers and usually a good band. Older crowd (40s+).

One of the better pubs on the Newport's west side
In the past this place had a bad reputation, but the last few years has seen it transformed into a lively and fun pub with a diverse group of regulars. There are plenty of events starting to be laid on now, with music nights, quizzes, darts and pool nights etc. Good Sunday lunches as well.

 Terrible service
The worst pub in the area for service. If you're planning on going its probably best that you phone ahead to place your order, unless you actually like standing around watching bar staff take their time.

A couple of times in the last year I have known people walk out in disgust.

 relaxing, friendly and fun
A great place to be with stunning views of the sunset. Its a regular meeting place for so many people and the staff are always accommodating.

There's always lots to do and plenty of very friendly people to talk to.... with a number of local sports teams and of course the Grand Prix guys and gals.

 THE Pub for Metal/Heavy Fans
Teresa from London (ex-Newport resident) Best bar anywhere, especially for the music. Rock/metal fans take note! If you're fed up with the quiet jukebox in your local, then Hornblower plays it twice as loud! I wish they had a Hornblower in every city.
