 Perfect English pub
Lovely welcoming pub, great local beers, home cooked food, and welcoming staff.

Dawn
 Chef's night off?
I had high hopes for this re-vamped pub. Our visit started badly with a mix up over the booking which was handled with a distinct lack of humour or friendliness despite the fact that the pub had about 7 empty tables. On reflection we should have left right then. The service was impersonal and the food was a limp attempt at gastro-pub cooking. My main dish was bland and unattractive. It felt 'warmed up' instead of just cooked, and complete lack of fresh vegetables meant there was no colour on either plate. We had a main course, a glass of wine and a coffee and paid £25 each.

 lovely pub
Extremely pleasant staff, homely food, relaxed atmosphere, a lovely way to while away your time without being pressurised to leave.

we went here on sunday 27 sept 09 we were a party of twelve we all arrived at 1630 was given a table at 1700 the service was virtually non existent there were no condiments most of us had the carvery but it was not worth the money we paid we the person cutting the meat did not know what he was doing i stood in line watching him trying to cut meat with blunt knives my daughter wanted some lamb he kept turning the bone trying to get meat off of it but really it should have been given to the dog it seemed he did not want to get another one out there was no yorkshire puddings he said i will get some he looked down and said oh there are some here the roast potatoes were like a big chip the gravy had run out the young girl said i wiil get some more she came out with a large saucepan of gravy she said dont you want to use what is in the bottom of the tin first well obviously not if you could see the state of it so she left the saucepan on the side with the laddle in it i thought this was extremly dangerous would i go back again no.

 The Best refurb!
Saying that the new proprietor has destroyed the pub is way over the top. The Pub is now well furnished , serves excellent food and no longer serves the riff raff of Tonbridge. Well done on bringing a quality restaurant to tonbridge. Please ignore the ignorance of some people calling it a disaster, they obviously dont have any idea.

 Oh dear!!!
This is an excellent example of how to destroy one of the oldest pubs in kent: turn it into a trendy restaurant.....
This destruction should not be allowed.

 Great place
I use the pub regularly and I am VERY fussy. The beer is always spot-on and the staff are second to none!

This is a traditional pub (fast disappearing) and well worth a visit.

 5* Restaurant
I can't believe the last comment, as I've been to this restaurant on several occassions and the food has been fantastic and the service 2nd to none, in fact I would say the service at this restaurant is better than that at Thackery's. What more can I say, apart from go there and see for yourself

 Excellent A***********
Having just moved to Paddock Wood, we went out looking for a good local pub with excellent food and boy did we find one!! The G&D offers an excellent service, fabulous menu but most of all a very welcoming feel... Their breaded brie is by far the best we have ever had...none of the Brakebrothers usual rubbish...but in an equisite crumb, cooked to perfection. We have yet to get through one of their mixed grills (but we are trying!)... It's a lovely pub..great atmosphere, good prices and deserves success!!

A fine partner to the Chaser Inn, Shipbourne!
We are regular visitors of the Chaser Inn, Shipbourne (highly recommended), great fans of the food and atmosphere there. When we heard that a new pub has joined the group we had to see what it was like naturally. I have to admit it's not as pretty as the Chaser Inn but it is due for a huge referbishment in January of 2007 as i was told. Well to the important points - the food was as expected, faultless, homemade and very fresh with plenty to choose from, we even indulged in a homemade sticky toffee pudding. The staff very friendly and the house wine is to die for. A must for anyone sick and tired of pool tables, jukebox machines, poor quality food and bad service! We will return. 10/10

 Arrogant rude chef Bad food
The chef forgot to put the bacon in a brie and bacon sandwich when complained the sandwich came back half missing and cold with the bacon on the side of the plate and told the table staff that he doesn’t care about it!! The table staff said they where too scared to confront the chef. DONT GO THERE !!

 Lovely food, atmosphere, and staff
I have popped in here with my husband everytime we are in the area. The food and service are wonderful, a changing daily menu and very helpful staff. I was offered more biscuts to go with my cheese platter when I had depleted them.
There is no sense of urgency in trying to hurry you up with your meal, a pint or coffee. You can read the paper in peace if you want and not get the feeling you are taking up space.
The pub itself has a beer garden in the front and at the back. Inside there are three main eating areas, low ceilings and beams and three fireplaces to warm you on those winter evenings.
The food itself is uncomplicated and well thought out. Really yummy, and not at all your standard pub fare.
If you're in the area its well worth diverting to have a bite to eat here, you won't be dissappointed

Have never been to The Red House but met John the landlord when he made a trip to Arizona recently. He was everything that I think a landlord should be. I look forward to meeting him at The Red House in the future. The best of British Luck to you.

Gem of a pub tucked away in the countryside
Great food and good real ales. Food freshly prepared and very reasonably priced. Booking advisable but even a short wiat can be enjoyed in the low-timbered bar with a pin of ale! We often eat here. Highly recommended.
