Spyglass & Kettle Matt Gillingham Unbelievable incompetence and rudeness.
I would urge anyone thinking of staying here to look elsewhere. We booked our room well in advance and presented the details of our booking on arrival only to be told that the rooms had been given to someone else and that there were no details of the booking. The staff seemed to think that was the end of the matter and weren't prepared to make any effort to sort the matter out despite the fact that it was obviously their fault and the fact that I and my heavily pregnant wife now had nowhere to stay having driven over 200 miles. The manager couldn't even be bothered to see us as she was in the bath.

This pub has been my local for a while now and is like my second home! The place is always a friendly place to be whether it for a chat wit ur mates, a bloody gd night out or for a curry and footy or just a few games of pool. the place is great. after hearing they are removin the sports tv and all the sports pics etc means that greene king are ripping the heart and soul out of the pub, its just not the same and the custom is gonna change. ppl will stay at home to watch the footy! Bring back the sports!!!

Id like to say that i love this pub, me and my friends often drink up the spy and we have a great time up there. I eat up there too and the food is lovely, no complaiints at all. And me and my boyfriend drink in this pub so as to the comment on bottle taned girlfriends? Taning is the way forward. Oh and the jukebox makes the night ha ha.Keep up the good work spy :)

I think the staff, the food and the atmosphear in this pub are fantastic. Whenever i have been here i have always had really good time. It comes accross as a really Friendly pub and seems to run smoothly.i would rather spend my nights out in the spy than aby other dive round here. I have no complaints.

Hop & Vine Jaz Gillingham FANTASTIC AND SO WELCOMING!!
What a wonderful pub!! The atmosphere is just brilliant, evrybody from staff to customers to the pub dog is so welcoming. It's a brilliant place to drink in and share times with your peers, i couldn't beleive the hospitality of the staff, how kind and friendly they are. After going in this pub a few times i got to know the bond between all customers, everyone looks out for everyone not only is it a place to gather but its like a family living room people of all ages can visit and feel comfortable in this pub. BRILLIANT!!!!

Barge Henry J. Farnsworth Gillingham Quaint Little Pub
The barge is a lovely little pub with an excellent selection of bar snacks, decent folk and a selection of regulars who you can become friendly with. Also a fine selection of real-ales of good quality. It is good to see a good old - fashioned bar billiards table. The landlord, Timothy is a lovely chap, just dissappointing he doesn't run the Roseneath any more. If this was more local to me, i would make it my local i swear. Difficult to find but well worth a visit

I went into this establishment recently, the first thing i noticed was the age of the plebeians. Looked like the riff-raff had just come out of school and the parks drinking cider only months previously, and out of their council estates, in their fake burberry and cheap tat, drinking alcopops as though they'd never tried a real bit of firewater. I couldn't believe the language too, flipping and cursing like there was no tomorrow. I asked for a pint of ale. The taste on my pallette was appalling. It was flat and tasted as though my pint had ejaculatory deposits in it. This led to my entry into the toilet in an attempt to defecate my bowels and almost hold back the vomitus by the stench of urine and faecal matter splattered up the sides of the bowl. As i left the toilet, two youths came in bursting into the cubicle, obviously to do a bit of cocaine, otherwise they were a pair of queer boys. I was outraged and asked to speak to the landlady, appropriately named Stella as this was the only decent pint they sold and that was awful too. She wasn't interested in my concern. I was appalled by this attitude and led to my immediate departure. AVOID unless you are 16-20

I loved the place and can't wait to back to visit..... Dave and Jo were fantastic - down to earth, friendly, yet heartfelt and I loved spending time with them. Mummy Chris is a Legend, whatever the challenge and all of the locals just couldn't have been nicer - I had a brilliant time. Will definitely go there again.

The sportsman pub has been closed down for a couple of years now and is waiting to be developed into flats etc , recently it was badly damaged by a fire which two boys got seriously burnt and r still going for treatment, the boys r from the area.

A very friendly welcome awaits any visitor to this pub. Muddy and Liz are the proprietors. Its clean, the beer is good and if you fancy a bite at lunchtime, rolls are available. I even saw someone eating a bowl of homemade soup one evening at 11!!! Give it try.

What a pub! Whilst I have only been done there a couple of times, its been a right old chuckle. Its not perfect, not by a long shot, but as long as you take it all in good spirits and avoid the eye of the hulking BNP stereotypes around the pool table youll have a whale of a time. Well known for the prevalance of middle-aged women among the clientele, Saturday nights are a good old-fashioned knees-up - like a sleazy version of Uncle Kevin's wedding reception. The dancefloor is small but adequate for all your boogying and granny-grabbing needs. However, dont be fooled by the extortionate entry price into thinking its some sort of plush wine bar. It really, really, isnt. But thats just part of the charm. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys the company of man-hungry 50 year old divorcees and the Macarena.

Hop & Vine Cecil B Klute Gillingham Heavenly
What can I say. Words fail me they really do. If you ever visit the hop and vine (and it must be on everyones list of things to do before they die) then please go on a Friday night. Recently redecorated, none of the charm has been lost from this haven of youth and debauchery. You step into an atmosphere that is palpable and distinguishable from the neighbouring Spyglass and Kettle that wishes it could be the Hop and Vine but fails so miserably. It may be crammed and there may be a skinhead youth glowering at you and your friends but there is no aspect of fear amongst the stench of Tommy Hilfigger and Corkys. A truly wonderful sight is good old Stella behind the bar always offering a piece of advice or a shoulder to cry on even if you've only just met. Sadly, Friday sees the arrival of the Amadeus night-bus that parks up across the road and escorts the clientele away like the boats at Dunkirk. No worries for there is now free access to the jukebox that may have been used for serenading your better half with techno but can now be roamed for any number of classic hits. Be sure to sample the grub and if possible have your ashes scattered here. For this surely is heaven on earth.

Where to start? I used to love this pub like my own mother, but times appear to have changed. Perhaps an anecdote that sums up this pub is that a friend of mine once allegedly found faeces in the bathroom sink, on a Sunday evening. Maybe thats what kicked off the unresponsive service and the cant-be-arsed demeanour of some members of staff. Its almost always deathly quiet in there, for which we are compensated for by having unimaginative jukebox music blaring out on Saturday night so loudly that, even if you did dare complain about service, you would not be heard. This pub used to be a beacon of good times, cocktails, friendly staff and civilised punters. Now the only thing left are the cocktails - not that anyone can afford them.

Despite the revamped interior, the service remains as sullen as ever. Loud mouth yobbos congregate by the door to compare cars and glare at anyone eyeing up their bottle-tanned girlfriends. Asking for a drink is met deep frowns by the inept bar staff who have the audacity to charge full whack for a pint that looks like a chimpanzee pulled it. Any special drinks requested are met with exasperated sighs before a third-class attempt at a cocktail or short is presented beside a whopping receipt. Nice garden though.

Landlord (alledgedly) chases people down road with a carving knife, bites lumps out of peoples faces and throws bleach at doormen. Posters in window for event 6 months ago so goodness knows when beer lines were cleaned. Avoid like the plague.

100% agree about steve & brendon. However... ladies beware...Mick The Plumber is always on the pull and his chat up lines leave a lot to be desired!! (He is 60 by the way!!!) An out of the way pub that overlooks the river. Owner and landlord Tim offers a warm welcome, the pub is cosy with lots of little alcoves and candlelight. Great choice of real beers. Good folk nights on Mondays.

Landlords Pete and Julie have had the pub just over 10 years and it is their friendliness, and that of the punters, that gives the pub it's atmosphere. It's a small and basic pub i.e. no frills, but it's a good place to talk, the beer is good (always decent ale), pool, darts and other pub teams. The age range is mixed, best thing is it's not a poser's pub! Also known as a pub for Gills fans - ask Pete for his latest take on the state of the Gillingham FC team.
