 Locals only
I moved to the area and wanted to have a place where I could come in and meet the locals and enjoy some nice friendly chat.

The place is unclean, dirty and full of locals who are very unwelcoming. I walked in, and got looked like I wasn't welcome. The staff continued to chat to each other until someone pointed out that I needed to be served. Glasses are only given a quick wash and so scum from previous drinks are on there, The toilets are full of shit and no one cleans the skids marks around them. Smelly pub and just so degrading to the community. I even talked to my neighbours, one a well to do young couple and another who are around 50 years old and they both squirmed at anybody going in here. Horrible staff, dirty pub and I hope it gets knocked down and made into a Tesco.

 Gary's info, no spelling mistake.
As Gary Outen (RIP) was Lord Outen of Crayford, then a Duke box would have been an appropriate term, for a music machine and therefore not a spelling mistake. Gary was one of life's best.

No longer an odds local
 Good Food
All the comments about this pub are wrong. The pub hasnt been any good since Ernie and Amanda left some years ago now. Its ok if you are after a nice bite to eat as the food is very good if not a bit overpriced. And I have to say that the new govenor Andy is an ok bloke. Much better than the ones in between Ernie & Amanda. For a bit of atmosphere and traditional style pub cross the road and use the Rose & Crown where the punters are very friendly and always up for a good laugh. The only thing is the govenor supports Millwall, but apart from that he is a very good landlord

Old pub but with basic keg beers. Seen better days
I was a regular here for 10 years during which time some of Dartfordís roughest would happily mix shoulder to shoulder with local businessmen under the watchful eye of Bert, the no nonsense, long standing landlord. There were 3 darts teams (2 male, 1 female), quiz teams, card schools, Sunday meat raffles, even shove haípenny. Many of the regulars, myself included, did sessions behind the bar and it was a real community pub and often packed with local characters. In the years since Bert left, there have been a succession of dubious landlords and all the regulars have either passed on or moved on leaving just the bare shell of this once hospitable tavern. Nowadays, I rarely see more than half a dozen people in there when I walk by and everything they do to attract people is usually done better elsewhere in town. I occasionally visit more out of nostalgia than loyalty and to be fair it had improved a little the last time I was there (at one stage it had plastic flowers that resembled something out of a funeral parlour). Basic keg bitters (admittedly they never did real ales even in the good old days) and not much in the way of food. Housed in a wonderful old building, there have been a couple of refurbishments in recent years but the basic layout remains the same. I doubt that the Windmill will ever be what it was it is quite apt that the framed history of the pub on the wall inside ends with Bert.

I wasn't a visitor I was an occupant - my Mum and Dad were licencees from 1953 until 1958 - so most of my teenage years were spent at The Tiger (my parents subsequently became licencees of The Hufflers Arms. I immigrated to America in 1962 from there. I remember many, many, happy times while living at The Tiger so many years ago. My parents were John and Doris Davis.
