I've drank and eaten in this pub since it changed hands in november 09. its a warm, friendly and inviting pub, a fine selection of ales and wines, most are local to the area. the food is fantastic, all fresh and from local producers, the menue changes frequently, i would say there is something for every one.
bbq's, morris dancers, live bands etc all add to the feel of something a little special. check it out !!

swearing at the bar keeping people away
if only the swearing round the bar would be addressed it could again be a really good pub. The new people are very nice and when they are there the swearing stops.
We know of lots of local people who have walked in and straight out again because of the swearing round the bar and just outside where the smokers go.

Ms A Cheese
expensive but well presented and cooked
Rather complicated dishes for a saturday lunctime but tasty and well presented. Starters very good (but not large) and could be shared with the help of a knife ! Scallops and fish dishes were good but sausages were average - one would pay half the price for 'pub sausages'. Main course portions very fair but paying extra for vegetables hurt the senses and the wallet.

No kids meals or concession for their tastes is also a little mean.

Deserts were v. good - especially sticky toffee pudding.

£140 for 6, sharing starters and puddings, one bottle of wine

I notice no one has filled this in for almost a year and i think i know why. Bein new to this town i started drinkin in there but soon realised my mistake. the place was dirty, beer was crap, staff all on charlie, full of pikeys and the atmosphere was as exciting as a wet weekend in wales. queing? never seena queue here and doubt i will for a long time. has this place had new management recently?
Sunday, September 17, 2006Rating: No rosettes

not value for money and the food was very poor
Friday, September 1, 2006Rating: No rosettes

The place is tight-knit with the same faces every weekend- pikeys. The pub itself is excellent; clean, friendly service and always something going on. Yet its locality to the town centre means that you often bump into the ugly sory-and end up paying for it!

 Traditional Ale Pub
Lovely looking pub, recently under new management and from the conversations I had with the landlord, is going to be developed to its full potential. Food was good and there was plenty of parking. Will be returning when the weather is better, as they will be putting up a childrens jimboree in the pub garden to make it more family friendly. www.worldswonder.co.uk

 Friendly Pub
I remember Maurice Ceaton as Landlord and his two daughters Maureen and Margaret as barmaids. Those were the days of real hospitality

 It's alright
Reading this lot you would think it was the bees knees. I think it's just an GOOD average pub. I will agree the staff are friendly and the place is homely(ish) but other than that it's nothing super. I haven't gone at the weekend though. Apparantly it's a bit of a pick up joint on the weekends. I did enjoy the pool and ale though.

 Very good!
The accommodation is very good. It's like renting a bed-sit. The Drink and atmosphere is excellent too - especially on Friday's and Saturdays. The owner, Alex Poole, is an honest decent sort. I over paid him at the bar only to find the extra money in an envelop sitting for me when I got back from work the next day. Staff are great for banter. All in all I really recommend it.

 Nasty, nasty, nasty
Nasty locals, nasty landlady (Lori - tho I believe she's left now).

A hard pub to find, and not worth the hassle.
Sunday, June 5, 2005Rating: No rosettes

Averagely priced for excellent quality beer and cocktails - for price and quality alone she gets a FIVE.

John & Joy
 Clean bar
Owner obsessively walked around keeping everything clean. Bar spotless, beer crisp, staff helpful and chatty.

 Depends when you go...
I went to this pub on a Wednesday and found it not really hopping like the other people here describe - I then went back the following Friday and YES it was in keeping with the fun described.

Beer clearly well maintained and serviced and the bar was clean. Overall I give it a solid GOOD.

 Pilgrims Rest
Rushed service and overpriced beer. The food is ok, but the beer is blatantly overpriced for the quality of it. It used to be busy with a lot of younger people now its like an OAP haunt!. I'll give it 1 star for trying!

...and the owner's a bit of a character too. Great pub.

 Local weekend pull centre
Some out of town friends and I spent a Saturady night here as part of our Hen weekend. The rooms were all spotless but there was no food. That fact would make me lean to giving this Pub 4 stars were it not for the fact that we had the best night ever in the Pub downstairs. The music is fab and the atmosphere great. Out of the 11 of us 9 of us pulled -(1 was married 1 about to be....) is it Ashford's pull centre? GREAT NIGHT OUT GIRLS.

 Go 24hrs!
BBC online contacted the the Fat Fiddler in Ashford Kent as part of its national survey to ascertain whether Pubs would take advantage of the licences to open for up to 24 hours when changes come in later this year.

A snapshot survey by the BBC, which included The Fat Fiddler, suggested most would apply for an extra one or two hours, usually at the weekend.

The owner, Mr Poole, was quoted as sayin the vast majority of people should be treated like the adults they are and It is utterly ridiculous that any modern day government should deny the entire population the right to a drink when they want. We are after all a free society. That said this scheme will totally fail its premise - binge drinkers will simply binge for longer

Of the 20 respondents, none said they would apply for 24-hour licences.

The reluctance to stay open round-the-clock was largely due to the costs involved. However, Mr Poole, said he would consider all viable options.

Having visited this Pub my informed advice is - Fat Fiddler GO 24 HOURS!!

 It's a singles bar
Good palce to go on a girls night! I've never gone out in Asford and being chatted up more. Problem is you've got competition in there - lots of singles. Is friday singles night? Loved the music and the policeman I end up snogging.

Good but my tummy says no cigar
Clean and cheap accommodation up stairs - pool and beer down stairs… no food though but other than that good.

A long happy hour makes a cheap night out. Full of talent and even when serving at regular price it's still very reasonably priced. Packed out though on both nights I was there and so had to que. Once in - it is what it is.

A great pub, good atmosphere, decord AND food.
Since it's renovation this summer (2004) this has become a favourite haunt of myself and my colleagues especially for lunches. The atmosphere is quiet but not unnerving, the decor is sublt and stylish but still maintaining the cosiness a pub needs to have and the food is fabulous. I have to say the prices are a little steep. £7 for an average lunch means it's not a daily venue - more of a weekly treat.
Wednesday, November 17, 2004Rating: rosettes

 Like it!!
Clean, friendly but very busy on Friday & Saturday nights as it stays open until 2am. Accommodation is available too except the owner won't rent out any room unless you're staying a min of 2 nights. Only 20 pounds a night though so its great value if you have the need. It's honestly my favorite pub in Ashford.
