I called in for Sunday lunch when passing through; lovely warm atmosphere - from the log fire and the Landlord! Food excellent, will certainly be going back.

Great dining experience with wonderful food, enhanced by the warmth and friendliness of the landlord and staff. Marvellous selection of great food and wine all served up with the legendary Hotham Arms wit and charm. A most memorable evening; can't wait to go back. Nothing but praise for it.

Lovely place in the pleasant village of Hotham, always a warm welcome from the friendly staff. An excellent selection of dishes to suit all palates, ample portion size giving good value for money, log fire gives a cozy greeting in the winter, I have visited the pub on several occassions and highly recommend it.

The Maltings is a typical real ale pub with a wide range of quality ales to be savoured, but what I find more and more frequently with places like this is beer snobbery with the C.A.M.R.A. fraternity. They seem intent on laughing at anyone they deem unable to tell one brand of beer from another, a kind of frremasonary among beer drinkers. Not only do ii find these people irritating but quite frankly boors. They hog the bar so as to make getting served difficult and poo poo anyone with the ordacity to order any thing but real ale. I know C.A.MR.A. has done a lot to raise peoples awareness regarding the quality of beer unfortunately it seems to have spawned a breed of the dreaded beer snob. I just hope we dont go gown the path of the wine drinking fraternity.

The Bay Horse Inn & Microbrewery
A warm and friendly welcome from the new landlord Rob. We have a new microbrewery on site and we serve our own exciting and tasty beers in this quaint and beautiful village. Sue, our chef, is serving some of the best meals in the area. We pride ourselves on quality and service. We have regular quiz nights on a Tuesday, dominoes Wednesday, games night Thursday, Live Music on Fridays and a fun and friendly Saturday. Sunday Lunch is gorgeous with real Yorkshire Puddings. Come and try us.

Philippa Vanham
 Rude and patronising owner
When the wine wasn't what I had ordered he responded with, 'well it's similar'. My braised Venison was tough and dry but the wner came to the table and said ' well the chef and I think it's perfect, nothing worng with it When I then tried to justify my complaint he talked over me and wouldn't let me finish a sentence. When I told him the service was rude he replied' well you win some you lose some'. There was no apology, his attitude towards customer complaints is terrible with the response of, 'well you got something else, didn't you? be happy with that.' I have never been spoken to like that in a restaurant before and sincerely hope I never do again. He is a smug, patronising, rude man and really needs to learn customers are the most important thing in his business therefore customer service must be impeccable.

Tiny two-roomer, totally unspoilt. Designated as a pub with outstanding interior in CAMRA National Inventory. Ever-changing guest beers. Don't leave York without visiting.

 wonderful food & service
We visited The Gold Cup on a busy Sunday lunchtime. Loads of atmosphere! Super staff, food and value for money. Not your usual 'run of the mill' menu. Excellent in every way.

 Beautiful pub
The pub is beautifully decorated, clean, and feels very cosy. Though the menu is more expensive than you would expect in a pub, it is worth every penny; fresh, cooked to perfection and very tasty. Well worth a visit, especially for a special occasion.

 great food, friendly surroundings
What a find! Why aren't there more pubs like this? What is it with gastropubs these days that think it's acceptable to charge London prices for little portions? We had a Set price menu dinnerfor under 14 for 3 courses! I'm not sure how long they can keep that price the same judging by the level of food & service, but why not? Imaginative food from reasonably cheap ingredients, they can do it in the bistros of France, so why not here. Wasn't it Mssr. roux that said that it is the pub that will save food in Britain? I think he could be right! Very satisfying indeed, only wish I lived closer.

 Nice food and service
Good grub and service at fair prices in nice village surroundings. Drinks on the expensive side (unless you're a regular/local)

Go elsewhere if in search of luxury - this excellent pub is 3 rooms in a row of terrace houses, unpretentious and unspoilt. Long may it remain so. Beer was 17p a pint when I first started going there - glad to hear its still cheap. A disappearing breed of locals.

'A real pub with real ale'
A small, friendly (if slightly quirky) traditional English pub serving a range of fine real ales.
Seems popular with locals, students, tourists, (dog friendly) alike. Open fires.
Amazing out-door loos!
Well worth seeking out on a visit to York.

 my local
living only 5 minutes from this lovely pub i am well placed to tell you that it is horrible. Not one weekend goes by where police vans and ambulances are common place. The ceilings are low and the smoke is thickand the locals are crazy fuelled idiots.

Excellent food! Great Value and Good Service
The Windmill Dunnington is a pub that has a good range of beers. But it really comes into its own when you eat here. The Specials menu always has something excellent(including a fantastic aray of vegatarian options, which is handy with my girlfriend being a vegy) to Offer and the homemade deserts are very tasty. You will have to book on a weekend though as it gets very busy.

 Good food - reasonable price.

My wife and I stopped at this pub on our way to the coast. We found the meals were good for the price, the staff were friendly and helpful and we will call again.

The Best in North Yorkshire !!
Upon arrival at the Jefferson Arms we were met with a warm and friendly greeting and were directed to the seating area near the bar and were asked what we would like to drink. Looking around you could tell a lot of time and money, care and attention to detail had been put into the decor . We were then shown through to the dining area where again no expense had been spared in making the atmosphere top class. Tables arranged so that you had your own space , a lovely open fire and lots to look at on the walls etc.
The menu had both our mouths wattering before we had even seen the food, a great selection of good english food with a twist along with some more exotic dishes. I had fish cakes to start, followed by Beef wellington and my partner had fillet steak. Side dishes of home made chips ( to die for ) and a fantastic selection of fresh veg cooked to to perfection. Was far to full for a sweet as the portions would fill the most biggest of appetites. We ended the evening with a Irish coffee and went home ranting and raving about the place. We eat out alot and have covered a lot if not all of the pubs/restaurants within the York area and would say this is our number one. Well worth the drive out.. have recommeded it to all that ask for a good place out to eat. Well done to the owners..money well spent !
