We recently had a 70th Birthday Party here for our parents for 26 people & it was a great success. All the staff were patient and attentive, the food was good and the day was a great success. Would highly recommend The Trigger Pond to anyone!

Have called for lunch twice within the last 6 weeks, once with friends. Helpful, friendly staff who got the timings right on drinks, ordering and food delivery. Wide choice and good value. Have yet to try on a busy evening - will report back if any appreciable difference

Trigger Pond Mr C ostly Warrington over priced and over rated
how much is a pint of PERONI, i paid £4.15 i only seen this when i recieved the bill. This is not acceptable this cost is more than LONDON!!!!!! you need a drinks price list on your web site not jusy a wine list price, this is fooling the locals. £4.15 a pint this is not a joke its a crime and i will be letting allmy friends know this in the area, the food is more expensive than other pubs but is ok,not the best. However the beer is a crime. I live across the road and there is no way that I would take any of my staff of customers to here after finding out these costs. I am sure it will not be long before word gets around.

Was looking forward to a nice Christmas meal with family,(The Trigger Pond )looked fine, clean and a freinly pub, AS LONG AS YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING TO EAT from the starters to the deserts it was dreadful but the main meal was something that could have come out of faulty towers to much to put down here one word says it all shocking ,the man in charge did compliment us with 4 bottles of wine and 40% off the bill but it was no comfort at ruining what should have been a plesant evening out at Christmas.

Trigger Pond Anonymous Warrington Very Disappionting
Don't try the Lamb Shank in Pomegranate sauce - it came like soup, and turned the mashed potato into a mush. I ate it because I was starving after the wait for it. In fairness it tasted OK, but the presentation was awful. didn't have Pedigree on, and gave incorrect size measures of wine. Won't be going back.

walked trough the door and greeted by a friendly member of staff asked for a table for five and he showed us to a table by the far window , well impressed with the comfy seats . within 5 minutes a waitress (forgot to get her name but she was excellent ) came and took our drinks order no sooner had she gone our drinks where on the table . we was given time to chat with the friends we went with before waitress returned to take main order . the waitress even took time to chat to our friends that where over from Australia on holiday and made them fell very welcome. the food arrived in good time and was well cooked tasty and hot .we felt so at home we even had a pudding :) . our Ozzy friends where amazed at the bill especially with the buy one get one free meal offer. plus our marstons discount card helps lol . overall a great place to take friends for a meal . well done all at the trigger pond :)

Step back in time at the Fiddle. Simply one of the best pubs we know (and we know quite a lot) Always a friendly welcome from the owners and their staff. We always take visiting friends there and everyone is always impressed by the atmosphere, music, memorabilia etc. Always 3 'unusual' guest beers on and always good wholesome, generous sized portions of food. I urge anyone who has never been to make the effort - you won't be disappointed!

The Weaver is a good friendly pub selling good real ale in good surroundings. The people are friendly. I've certainly had no bother from anyone whenever I've been. Mind you, I'm a Scouser and not some wannabe plastic scouser who wasn't born in Liverpool or has lived here such as you get in Brookvale/Palacefields etc. These chavs think they have a point to prove. They don't! We all know they're idiots! Take it from me The Weaver is the best pub in these parts.

Wanted to book table for 5 people at 3pm, was told we could book a table unless between 12-2pm, even though my mother can not stand for any period of time. The Trigger Pond has just been refurbished and we were lucky enough to be invited over the training weekend. The food was outstanding and much improved - all freshly cooked and not reheated. Visited The Stag on many many ocassions, especially on a Sunday, whilst I was pregnant as I craved Roast Dinners....anyway visited The Stag yesterday, extremely disappointed as they would not allow my little boy in eventhough all twelve of the party where all dining & the pub was completely empty, apart the the cheerful guy (NOT) behind the bar. We were forced to stop in warrington by snow on the M6 and found a convivial atmosphere and good beer. The locals were very friendly and the landlady even let us park up for the night with our camper van, due to the snow. All in all, a great evening!

We've just come back from the pub/restraunt having a christmas fayre menu. The atmosphere was good with the chef coming out discussing the menu I choose the wood pigeon and rocket with black pudding followed by the wild game broth and then the full turkey dinner, christmas pudding and coffee. were there for to hours for a party of 6 all the course were really some of the best food we've had in a while. we wasnt rushed with the food coming out when we were ready.

I went to The Chetwode Arms today, and what can I say? It was possibly the best pub food I have had for a long long time. I had the Sunday menu, duck pate, fillet steak and black pudding on a hot rock and vanilla cheesecake! All for just £10. Very nice staff and service was excellent. I really think some of the other people leaving comments here have serious issues!! and hidden agenda,s....I have been going to the Nelsons Quarterdeck for over 20 years.... Through thick and thin, good and bad.. and there sure have been some bad times... Since the last owner took over approx 3 years bago this place has gone from strenght to strenght....Its certainly never empty. The whole place has been renovated and there is a fantastic smoking area with real wood fires in it.. I think some other pubs should take notice of what they have done in the quarterdeck its fantastic... I can rember the bad old days of police raids and machette attacks, drug deals and firearms.. I have seen it all in there.. but these days you only ever see the police in there with a friendly smile on there faces, which makes a pleasent change...

Hatton Arms Kieran Salter Warrington Hatton Arms - Very good food
Visiting Cheshire on holidya and came across the Hatton Arms - lovely pub and restaurant - now under new management. The food was delicious and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fresh food bueatifully cooked.

Black Horse Inn L H Widnes Not bad
I've visited the Black Horse on many occasions and the biggest problem is the amount of time you have to wait before being served. We've had to wait anything from 30-50 mins for an evening meal. The food is generally ok but The Unicorn down the road is better. The atmosphere is much better now than the non-smoking ban is in place but the groups of smokers standing around outside can lower the tone and make an intimdating presence. Not bad but prefer the Unicorn.

Well this pub is over priced, 70's decor is in need of a change. You walk in and your stared at from all corners. Sometimes a very hostile atmosphere and can be very intimidating. PS Only joking - its a cracking boozer - full of nice people - nice bar staff, nice management and they serve food too which is totally fantastic.

The Nelsons Quarterdeck-Warrington is the worst pub I have ever drunk in. I was punched and kicked and doused it beer by the barmaid, them I was taken to the door and thrown into the street. I had spent a lot of money on beer and they must have been impressed. As I walked away a voice shouted come back when you are sober. Maybe I will go back the next time I am working in Warrington but not until all the bruises and the black eye have gone.

What more can i say about this pub, other than a total disgrace. There is a hole in the roof near the main bar which leaks, the toilets are discusting, the bar staff are polite, yet dont dress correctly and the worse part is, the manager is never ever there and when there is trouble, its left to the barstaff to sort this out. Went last night. chips were overcooked and beef and ale pie was cold. Sent back, waited 10 minutes for it to come back. Got it back and the veg and chips were cold. By this time wife had almost finished, therefore sent back and went without. Didn't offer any compensation considering the occasion was spoilt. Service was also slow and there were only two other tables eating it was very poor service and not reasonably priced compared to other similar establishments.

Church Green Andy Lymm .
Since the rufurbishment a little over a year ago the Church Green has gone from strengh to strengh and really does cover any experiance that you want, from a nice quiet night with fine food and relaxed atmostphere to watching the world cup outside on the decking area with a 50 plasma screen. If you ever in the area I would suggest a visit especially on either a friday for the live music or sunday for the quiz.

We both had mushroom soup as the starter very nice. I had mushroom stroganoff, very nice, husband had fish & chips, they were awful, fish was condensed and tastless, and batter was soggy, chips were over cooked, some were pale, most were very brown. Staff were pleasant, and did apologise for the meal after the complaint had been made. Would go again but not have fish & chips!

I Have been going to the church green quiz night now for the last few weeks, it just gets better and better. Now there is a picture round and the music quiz has a good veriety of music and for the questions, top class! The quizmaster Marcus is a very clever hansom man who entertains the whole pub on a sunday evening. Bulls Head Sally Lymm A really nice pub when i walked in.
When i walked into the pub i was delighted to see a beautiful fire and beautifully polshed brass. I felt that old fashioned feeling that so many pubs have lost by turning them into eating houses. But i am sad to say the feeling was soon spoilt by children, running around and taking up chairs and tables so my family who came to join me couldnt sit with us. This is such a shame that we had to leave and the parents of the children stayed till late into the night. This will stop me from returning.

Chetwode Arms Simon Warrington New management have spoilt it
The Chetwode Arms is inxder new management (since around the start of this year) and the old, excellent, menu hasd gone. The new one is simpler and much more expensive. No main course is under £10 and many are £15.It is way over-priced for the quality compated to other good country pubs in this area. Used to be worth travelling to, but now worth avoiding, sadly.

How many time s do I have to go into this pub and have to wait on average 8 mins to be served. This is mainly due to there only being 1 or 2 staff serving and no glass collectors. If the manager did his job, which would help if he were in the premises more often, mistakes behind the bar would not happen due to the staff being over worked and stressed. Mistakes such as wrong drink, wrong change, dropped glasses, etc. The whole pub is in need of a make over as it now looks shabby and worn, very often there is no hand washing liquid or toilet paper in the gents for weeks. This pub is in a prime position and must still take plenty behind the bar but I'm sure, no I'm certain it could be alot better.

The Cerry Tree Manager, Colin, his closest friend, Alan, all the staff and many of the locals have all contributed to the most spectacular pub 'World Cub' display to date. No holds barred, they have coverd the pub inside and out. A football pitch has been displayed on the roof, inclusive of floodlights, blowup players, piped football anthems, and every representative flag. The whole project has taken almost a month to create; from planning to completion. It is an absolute credit to all who contributed, and warrants the best pub display at least. Never have I seen so much passion and creation in any before.

Church Green Fiona Lymm FANTASTIC!
I am slightly baffled by the negative comments seen on this page, but I do take on board and understand the issues regarding children. We recently visited for a Sunday evening meal. For me, it was lovely not having all the kids running round - been there, done that, moved on! Some pubs cater for children but not everyone wants that all the time. If you are out without your children, it can be annoying to have others' kids running around you why you try to eat! My children always behave when they are out and if other children don't, I find it spoils my meal. I am sure other people feel the same way. I must admit though, when my children were young, I was a bit disgruntled by places not letting them in so I can see both sides of the argument! We found the food and service impeccable. There were 9 of us and all the food arrived piping hot and all at the same time...a minor miracle! We found the price was good for the quality of the food. I had been only once before for a drink and liked the relaxed atmosphere and to be honest, we found the bar staff - a young girl - very efficient and friendly. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. My son is 14 with learning difficulties and was made to feel welcome and the staff went out of their way to accomodate his food preferences. We are looking forward to going back soon.

Possibly the worst dining experience I have ever had – do yourself a favour – DON’T GO. The staff are unbelievable rude. The food was burnt and the portions are small. There were no apologies and this all cost over £15 per main meal each – plus the 10% service charge that no one told us about. In addition only ½ the menu is available. Absolutely dreadful!

Horseshoe Inn David Pownall Warrington Great Pub
I feel I must add a comment after seeing the comment from Jo Johnson. The Horseshoe Inn pub food is as good as it gets. We went in the restaurent two weeks ago. It is silver service and a completely different menu. Although it is relatively expensive in the restaurant, the meal was definitely one of the best we have ever had. We eat out frequently and have patronised some of the best establishments in Manchester, so can speak with some authority.

Tavern Greg Howard Widnes Best sports pub in area & Good music
The Tavern caters for the sports fanatic and has several screens to watch any major event. It can get boisterous on some of the big match days and sometimes they need security particularly when England's playing. The bar is long and normally has 2 or 3 people on in the evenings. Beers are mainly focussed at the 20-35 age group and the bar food is not bad. The outdoor area at the front has some tables for those warmer days with a few in the back also. The parking is good and generally safe. It is a popular pub in the area and is completely different than the quiet Coterie 'Wine Bar' at the top of the road or the Four Topped Oak which caters for over 18's.

Unicorn Inn Greg Howard Widnes Tasty traditional Meals - could do with a refit
The Unicorn is an old pub - this is part of its charm. However if the landlord decided to spruce it up a bit and put in new carpets etc then I am sure the business would grow. It has a decent sized carpark which is used by the fish and chip patrons of the Cronton Chippy (Probably the best chip shop in the North West). The beer is not bad. They have a couple of characters working in the Unicorn - with a bit of correctly done refurbishment this pub would be a winner.

Black Horse Inn Greg Howard Widnes 2 pubs in cronton this is 2nd best
To be honest both the pubs in Cronton aren't world beating. The food at the Unicorn is better than here - the Unicorn can get quite smoky though. The small pool bar at the front is fun when there is a football or rugby league match on. The beer range is not bad but the wine menu is quite below average.

Four Topped Oak Greg Howard Widnes Depends on the night - why not kids
Since the Four Topped Oak was taken over by Ember Inns they changed their policy and no longer allow children under 14. This has pros and cons. The pub itself has been modernised and the food is hit and miss depending on what you order from the selection. The beer is quite well ranged and the wine menu is stronger than many pubs in the area. Ember Inns are missing out on a large market by not allowing children into the gardens during summer as the pub is well located near several housing developments. Quiz nights are held on a Wednesday and Sunday. Not a bad pub but could improve by being more flexible instead of focussing on the more mid market tier. Ember Inns - think family - you are surrounded by them. Even if you turned one part of the pub into children allowed area before 6pm this would probably increase the visits on those spring and summer afternoons.

Smithy's Pub Jo Johnson Warrington James Herriot needed
Called in here last week to try the Thursday night special (Steak & chips on a platter). It was certainly piping hot when it arrived but for all that when I cut into the requested well done steak a good vet could have had it on its feet again in no time at all. Blood oozing out of my food isn't my idea of fun so I asked if they could cook it a little more please. It wasn't a great deal different when it came back but the chips were now just charcoal so this was certainly not the most wonderful meal I have ever had. The place is clean and the food was cheap but with what happened it was not good value, also noticed that the sell by date on the bottle of my drink had expired.

Horseshoe Inn Jo Johnson Warrington Needs a makeover
Food is still okay although portions are small unlike the prices, choice could be more varied and the veg are always cold. Apart from the food standards having slipped so has the cleaning regime and the place is grubby and uncared for with plenty of cobwebs and grime. Picture was completed by the extremely indifferent bar staff so what has always been a favourite eating place of mine is off limits for me for a while.

Stag Inn Dorsey Warrington What a great place
Lovely friendly and helpful staff, pub has a nice friendly feel to it and is always very clean and welcoming & they have nice little touches like the days daily newspapers freely available for you to read if you wish. Food is just superb, beautifully cooked and presented with all fresh veg just done to perfection. One of my favourites and head and shoulders above most of the others.

Trigger Pond Dorsey Warrington One to be missed !
Place was dirty and looked generally un-cared for. Food was well below average - never had sirloin steak boiled first before having a quick look at a grill - and at 10 minutes past noon they said they had run out of jacket spuds. Staff weren't interested and I will never know if it improves because I wont be going back. Heard others complaining when they were told the pub didn't stock mild beer as well.

Tavern the tavern Widnes excellent place ... love it !!
this pub is fantastic. it has a welcoming lively atmosphere. with it being recently decorated and refurbished it looks modern but is still comfy! there is lots to do and match nights are the best ever! the food here is great no complaints whatsoever. the service is fast and the staff are very polite (the servings are good too). All i can say is great place ... daytime or of a night! LOVE IT !!!!!!

Was in there this evening and thoroughly njoyed every minute of it. The food was wonderful (not a big fish fan myself though its obvious the chef is - what the hell is a dover slip ????), staff were attentive and management very friendly (ozzies get everywhere dont they). The real ales are real ales, best pint I've had in some time. Well worth a visit which we will be doing again soon..... opps ...... sorry..... it was yesterday now by the time I write this

A very twee pub with a big restaurant and a huge bowling green. Probably best to book on Saturday night because the first time we turned up the restaurant was full - we were though well looked after and dined in the bar area but we booked for our second visit. We are now regulars - always check out the specials board and the fish and chips.

Having just watched the article on BBC's Northwest Tonight re The Jolly Falstaff at Warrington not allowing an old man in because he wears a flat cap, I feel that this pub can not possibly be justifyably classed as a 'bestpub'. It only takes someone with half an ounce of commonsense to see that he is an old guy who is extremely highly unlikely to be out to cause any trouble - even on the limitations of a CCTV camera image. They need to remove this stupid rule immediately and apologise to this gentleman and any others who have been discriminated against in such a disrespectful way.

This pub is really well run by the landlord Ste and his staff. Great food at reasonable, affordable prices - and at £1.49 for a pint of Carling, why stay at home!!!
