 Haunted fishermans inn.
Yes,it is true the fishermans inn is haunted, predominantly in the upstairs function room (as it was in the mid 1980s).And can state that first hand,as I used to work there at that time.Quite well known by the staff to be so.I do agree it has been totally ruined though.reminds me of a macdonalds with beer now.

 Dont Go!!
Only go to this hovel if you don't mind seeing kids being beaten up by thug bouncers employed by said hovel. Was witness to a young lad being isolated from his friends and asaulted for no reason whatsoever on Christmas Eve. Happy Christmas to the two gorillas, you must be so proud!

 Offensive to some!
I refer to the immediately previous comment. You have upset approximately one tenth of the population of England. Rochdale is in LANCASHIRE! Are you sure you are a fit person to make a constructive criticism of a pub? There are NO rude lanladies or landlords in Yorkshire (or Derbyshire).

Probbably the rudest Landlady in Yorkshire
I have never met such a rude landlady, clearly not meant to be in the hospitality industry!

Just a quick thank you to the manager who has turned the pub around. this guy is amazing i really think he should have been chosen to carry the olympic torch.he is like an uncle to me and every time i go in the plough the manager always pulls up a chair and then lets me sit on his Knee and combs my hair while telling me stories about the Pendle Witches and about his life on the road with the Moscow State Circus. what a guy

 Nanna's Teeth
Went in the Plough last Week and took my 90 year old Gran as a birthday treat.
the food was terrific we had lamb chops that were done to perfection and melted in the mouth followed by a superb sherry triffle,
When we got home Nan realised she had lost her false teeth.
she thought she had lost them forever.
But then we had a call from the Manager at the success to the plough who found them in his bed.
many thanks for a great evening and finding Nanna's teeth.

Being A Paranoid Schizophrenic i spend alot of time by myself and with imaginary friends.
But i know where i feel at home and where i do have one friend and that is the Success to the Plough public house.
i love to go in at opening time and what makes this pub so special is the MANAGER he always brings my pint over and often helps me with the sun crossword also he tells me about his adventures in Africa and Alaska this is a great pub and doesnt reallt feel like a pub more like a secure unit and the manager is more like the sister i never had. top pub.

Been having a bit of personal problems with my wedding tackle in the Bedroom.
Went down to the Plough to forget my problems.
The Manager could see i was unhappy
and soon came over to ask me what my problem was.
after i had explained about my little problem.
not only did the manager listen but he gave me some tips on techniques for pleasing women in the bedroom.
when i got home i was a different man and my wife was happy again
so i would like to thank the manager for saving my marriage.

Have to agree......With my friend (Alice)
We had a banging night at the Success to the Plough.
the food was really good and they gave you large portions.
The only negative i can say about the pub was the Manager.
He was friendly and helpful enough.
but he was to much like a cross between Alan Carr and Julian Clary.
Camp and annoying , still like Alice said If You want a good night, head for the success to the Plough
The camp manager may yet grow on me.

 Great meal
I visited there a few weeks back now and couldn't of asked for a better night. The food was fantastic and really tasty. The service we received was brilliant, we received everything that we asked for and more. After our meal the manager came over to ask if everything was ok and stayed for a lengthy chat with us. Couldn't ask for a better night and I highly recommend others to visit

 Welcoming manager
I visited here at the weekend for a meal to celebrate my birthday. There was 20 of us in total and the service we received was fantastic. We hadn't pre booked a table but the manager re arranged the restaurant so we could all sit together. The food was good of the 2 for 10 menu on a Sunday. The manager even bought me a complimentary drink and was extremely welcoming. Would not hesitate to recommend to others.

Quite honestly the worst attitude of a landlady ive ever experienced. tried to cut our bands wages by a quarter and presume that was ok without prior notice. didnt even come over to speak to us herself, got a member of the bar staff to do her dirty work for her. awful pub, awful landlady and happy to say i'll never play their again. support local music, dont go to this pub, go somewhere more appreciative of music. crap pub

 Dreadful Manager
Went a couple of weeks ago, never again!! A lady asked the manager to either answer his mobile phone or turn it off because it had rung a couple of times and he just let it ring while he was sat at the next table to her and her friend. He was so rude to her, shouted at her and told her if she wasn't happy she should leave!

 Excellent value
Personally I'd never value the opinion of someone who struggles with the spelling of mediocre...

Tried this place last Sunday and found the 'two roasts for 10' to be excellent value. Staff couldn't have been better (young blonde couldn't do enough for us) and the place was very homely.

Will be visiting again without a doubt.

 Dear person below
Making up lies on the internet is rather sad, I have it on good authority that none of this happened. I also have a statement from 4 other customers that this wasn't what happened and that the party of 8 were just looking to get out of paying their bill like they have done in all the other places they have gone out to eat.

 What a terrible Manager
Myself and 7 of my family members went for a meal at the wheatsheaf in Littleborough on 25/9/11..

The Starter was ok,for the Main course i had sunday Lunch and the carrots where rather hard and under cooked but all in all nice.

We was waiting 40 mins for our dessert and after 35 mins my Mother in Law asked if they was on there way. the Person in question said we are making them arnt we in a nasty attitude and with this i asked to speak with the manager which turned out to be the same guy.

We told him that there was no need for the manner in which he told us about the desserts. to which he started swearing at us telling us comments like he was sweating is f*ck**g a**e off and i am f*ck**g sick off this and then started swearing at my wife in front of my 18 month old daughter and then walked off banging and slaming doors whilst screaming.

When i approached him and told him that i wasnt happy about him swearing and beeing so aggresive in front of my 18 month old daughter his comment was i wasnt f*ck**g swearing.

I then went to the toilet and come back out where he was stood at the door thinking we was going to walk out without paying.saying who is fucking paying for the meal and being very agressive, I wasnt going to pay for the meal because i though his customer service was disgraceful and my family was very upset by his shocking attitiude but i did pay as he was becoming increasingly more agressive.

I went to go and pay and as i was stood at the bar paying he told me i was barred so basically he had barred me for pulling up because he was swearing at us and to himself infront of my 18 month ol daughter that is picking thing up at this moment in time.frankly his attitude stunk and i would expect to be speak to a dog in the manner he was speaking to us.

Satisfied customer
Called at the King Bill tonight the first time since the refurbishment it is clean and bright and the music is quiet and in the background. We called for the meal deal, two for 10. It was excellent value for money and the service was very warm and welcoming. We didn't realise it was cash only and did not have enough cash to pay for the meal, we were told not to worry and bring it in tomorrow, but we went back straight away. I would recommend this as a great country pub!

Mr and Mrs West
myself and my husband visited your pub on saturday evening my husband was told to move from the window seat by a very rude young waiting person who said who told you to sit there we did not stop for a meal as we found your whole pub very unfriendly and would not visit you again as we come from Grantham in Lincolnshire your staff do not know who is who maybe there should learn some manners as we found a friendly pub down the road called the spring inn where we had a meal and were found a table straight away with no problem if this is a lancashire welcome i am sorry to say it was not good practice to any visitor coming to your pub i work in customer service and realise the importance of being polite yes it can be hard but in this climate manners cost nothing! i look forward to your reply and commments an unhappy two customers and sorry to say no i would not come and visit you again pity because on the internet it looks lovely and very welcoming maybe the stafff need further training on the importance of manners thanks alot and what a shame as the food looked lovely and you were very busy mr and mrs west

 Change for the better
It is quite obvious that the Beach has new management now. It is still staffed by young people, but that is great as long as they have good management, and being met and looked after by pleasant and experienced people as I was today means you can't go wrong.
I doubt if they will be in line for any Michelin stars, but f you want cheap and cheerful the Beach gives you both, and in great surroundings too.

 Fishermans Inn Ghost
Yes Gail, I think The Fish is haunted.
When we lived there, there was often the sound of a small child crying. My dad actually got up one night to come and see me, but I was staying with friends that night so it obviously wasn't me!! There was a story of an illigitimate baby who was taken from it's mother and the mother locked up in a cupboard where she died from starvation. (True or not I haven't got a clue) However, when we were having alterations back in the late 60's builders uncovered a cupboard which had been bricked up!!! I'll let you all draw your own conclusions at that.

Hi We recently had a function upstairs and in the ladies toilets a few people heard crying although it was empty. Has anybody else heard this or knows anything regarding the pubs history.

Sorry folks but I am not in favour of The Fisherman's Inn or The Fish now being named The Wine Press and changed into a modern monstrosity!!! What's wrong with a good old country pub set in glorious surroundings?!! I grew up in the pub in the 60-70's and to see what they have done to it is quite upsetting for me. Thank goodness I still have old photos of The Fish to remember it in the good old days!

Really nice meal and fab atmosphere
The Success to the Plough is a great place to both Meet and Eat.
The staff are friendly and attentive and the landlords Hugh and Chloe are always on hand to make sure everything is ok and to your likeing. The pub itself is really nice with quality furnishings and trendy art work, which i feel people of all ages enjoy.
The food is also excellent and very reasonably priced.
All in all i would not hestitate to recommend the Plough be it for a quiet lunch with your mum or a good night out with your friends.

I have just had a meal at the Success to Plough 26th June 2008.
The meal was supposed to be 'Special of the day' being - Braised steak and onions on a bed of mash. The steak was a minute steak rolled up with instant or frozen mash with onions and gravy. The price 8.95
It was absolutely disgusting and
extortionatly overpriced. I will definately not be going in this pub again.

 slow service, poor food
After booking nearly a week in advance, arrived to be told of a 90 minute delay to orders. Ordered anyway and asked how long the meal would be, if a longh time we would order starters to fill gap. Was ssured the meal would be served in 20 minutes, so decided against starter. Meal arrived 45 minutes later. My father in law aged 90 asked for a small serving, it was presented on a side plate with a yorkshire pudding on top, impossible for him to eat, my sons burger was poor and probably less than the advertised weight. A sirloin steak was dry accompaniments were very poor quality. Puddings were a diaster, advertised as home made, everything out of a tin, is that not against trade desriptions... many of the advertised items were not available. A sign proudly proclaiming a sunday special of a 2 or 3 course meal at a set price was I dont think we do that any more said the waitress. The whole experiance was terrible pure estate, will not be returning

 it's a dump
Known by the locals as Stickys (due to the carpets sticking to your feet). It is one of the dirtiest pubs in Littleborough. The gents toilets are disgusting and I have been told that the Ladies toilets are worse. The pub does have some fine real ales. It is a popular meeting place for the local lesbian community

Warm, Welcoming, Reall Ale & Food too!!
Visited this pub on Saturday last in a party of 10.

Arrived very wet, cold & hungry after completing most Townley Loop! The Landlord was very welcoming and even offered to dry our wet clothes! He then sparked up a real fire to warm us!! The was really appreciated!! So much so we decided to stay most of the afternoon.
As a real ale buff (CAMRA member for 15 years) I can honestly say that the Timothy Taylors Landlord here was absolutely beatifully kept.
Tried the Blond Witch was also very nice.

Most chose to eat from the specials board and were very pleased with the tradition home made food.

Thank you so much!

Fair comment , but wouldnt the Bellevista be more suited to business meals etc.I do not like smokey pubs either, but really enjoy the traditional pub atmosphere that has now been lost.Trends change , but always revert.Remember when all pubs were being turned into cocktail bars? Dont you want me baby and all that! Time will tell what people want.If its the 'Wine press' then best of luck to it.Maybee its me becoming a grumpy old man. What has hapened to the 'Wine Press ' illinumated sighn? Please go back at least to calling it 'The Fishermans Inn' More apt really taking into consideration the lack of 'local' wine presses. Cheers people. Bernard x

its a young pub; hence the smoke an the noise. malcolm was being harsh just because he stepped into a genre of pub which he dislikes.
Tuesday, May 30, 2006Rating: rosettes

this pub is the worst pub i have ever had the misfortune of stepping into in the 41 years of my life. not only were most of the features of the pub which greeted me freezing cold and unwelcoming; from the food, staff and decor, but the beer was flat and condradictorarly warm. the staff seemed more interested in what they did at the weekend than serving me. It took me 20minutes to gain the attention of one waitress just so i could get another fork as i had dropped mine on the floor. This i think is disgusting and there really needs to be some staff training at this place. The food which i had to eat cold as it had taken me so long to get a fork was disgusting the chips were soggy and overdone. The desserts were clearly from the cheapest supplier. i will never set foot in this place again and would advise everyone against eating here.

Absolutely amazing transformations have happened in this pub !! Firstly the addition of paint and flowers have really transformed it into what can only be described as a medeteranian style bistro. Also Gordon has ventured to the other side of the bar !
Sadly though, Lyndsey Wood and Dave would to is sadly off after many years of speculation : ((

 well worthy of a visit
i have eaten here a few times and not had a bad meal, we have both been impressed by the quality of the food, staff and place overall. on a summers day the views from the rear are stunning but be warned, it can get very busy. i like the range of food on the menus along with the choice of ales.
Thursday, February 23, 2006Rating: rosettes

 cheap food but poor staff
as the review below states, its a chain restaurant and aimed at providing cheap food. in all honesty, when you can get two steaks for under 10 its never going to be top notch but it worth try. the only real negative is that it is run by kids, they have little or no trianing and the average age appears to be 17. the bar staff are not very experienced and it shows. beer quality is ok but only the usual ones available, shame as a few speical ales would be welcomed here.
Thursday, February 23, 2006Rating: rosettes

 basic food, good prices
the Gallows is fine if you want cheap food on a very basic level. well worth checking out, only bad points are that the vegetables are cooked way too much and the draft beer can be ropey. if you want a quick cheap meal then this is the place.

 Torture on Earth!
Whilst driving along the road one night,
The Bridge Hotel I found,
When walking through the door,
I heard a dreadful sound.
Looking to see what dreadful noise,
was burning up my ears,
A ginger boy was stood there singing,
It was verbal diareah,
The Darkness song was blairing,
the customers looked unwell,
I ordered a double vodka,
to try and numb the hell!

Pleasant pub, but only when Karaoke isn't on and Ginger Dave is at V!

What a marvellous place to visit. The food and wine was incredible, and to be greeted by what appeared to be a strawberry-blonde monk was fantastic, this was more of a fine establishment in the form of a monestry than a local eatery. Excellent, keep up the good work Cadfael!

I came across this quiet local pub whilst driving from yorkshire one evening with my wife Norma.

Not a propper pub anymore. No atmosphere
Rather upseting that a decent pub has been transformed into such a faceless building. It may have needed a refurb, but not a transformation. The owners already have a place like this just up the road, so most customers now come from there. Not good business.I have not heard a nice comment from anybody yet.Hollingworth lake needs a traditional pub not a 'hoyty toyty' wine bar.

 Magnificent Quality and Hospitality
Offering a wonderful and varied selection of fine ales, The Rake Inn is, quite simply, an experience that everyone deserves to treat themselves to.  The Spring Mill Tavern
The old 'Sandknockers' has undergone extensive refurbishment, previously this pub was scarred with drug abuse and regular poilice visits, leading it to be closed down, but Punch Taverns have bought the Pub, spent over 250,000 on refurbishment and it is now undoubtably the best pub in Rochdale. Food is served 12-3pm Tuesday to Sunday. This is one place you really have to see for yourself!!!

 Good Pub Grub
If you are looking for food that is not to fancy then this is you place. Always plenty to eat and served hot at a very good price.

 Food for all
Primarily a resturant with a wide choice of food to suit all tastes from classic bar fair to something special. A friendly welcome and an attentative team make this an ideal setting for a family lunch, or an uncomplicated evening meal. Whilst overshadowed by the eating area the pub offers good beer with happy friendly staff. If you go that extra mile to visit the Moorcock it will be reciprocated.

 A Haven
Good choice of ales, and for something different some tasty Belgium beers.
The Lion has escaped comercial pressures and provides a haven for a good pint, in well worn, friendly surroundings. No fear of karaoke or pub quizes , although I hear the dominoes night can get a bit wild ;-)

Malcolm Bridge
A pastiche of the old pub it once was.
Superb 17th century pub that was gutted about 20 years ago. If the interior had survived it would have been listed. Food poor and beer usually over-chilled.

 A good 'local'.
Good choice of beers, usually in good condition, at fair prices. Can get a bit smoky (the 'No Smoking' room doesn't seem to be very effective.)

Malcolm Bridge
 Fabulous position & generally civilised
OK food; good beer and very good value wines (mostly New World). Probably the best overall pub in Littleborough.

The name, by the way, is White House (two words)
