 Lies and more lies
Utter rubbish posted by the we love the Puckersley brigade.!! I expect they are all friends of the owners (if not the owners themselves....). Read my post from July 2009. Nothing has changed - 2 colleagues went the other day and were treated exactly the same, offhand, long wait, average food. What planet are you lot on???

 Very good local pub
This pub has in the past suffered from poor transient landlords and very few customers.
NOW a new landlord and landlady serving a good pint and very good pub food. The staff are friendly and there is a general hub bub of conversation.

Due to Brewery Policy no entrtainments licence so no TV, Juke box etc. but the regulars provide plenty of entertainment, but BE WARNED. it is very much a man's pub, the clientele being mainly from the building trade.

HI, My wife and I went to the Horton arms in April 2010, we had a fantastic meal . A pub meal which ,may I add,was of Restaurant standard. The quality of the food and dining experiance was first class. The chef Tim was quite outstanding and the other members of staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. I have since been with my family on a couple of oocaisions, and we have not been disappointed. Well done The Horton Arms.

In reply to julus.I eat in both the Puckersly and the TurksHead and find both establishments excellent. The dishes Jules said she ordered in the Turks Head that took 11mins are not available and to my knowledge never have been. She obviously was upset at the huge turnout for her birthday party.
Thursday, July 23, 2009Rating: rosettes

browsing at the puckersley comments i came across a comment that was incorrect. i never saw a cheese pastry or a leek based pastry, NO CLUE WHAT YOU ARE ON ABOUT. i my self ordered the lamb dish and it was mouht watering delicious. i did not mind the 30 minute wait as i knew that it was cooked fresh. i also enjoyed my scallops and black pudding starter. had no probs with the staff or the food EXCELLENT !
Wednesday, July 22, 2009Rating: rosettes

my family and i had a meal at the pub last week and the food was excellent the service was excellent the staff were nice and polite to us all we did not mind waiting for our meals as they were freshly cooked and you can not expect your meal to be cooked in ten mins when all the food is fresh as we all know so i think you where mistaken. YOU DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING AS YOU WERE UNINPATIENT WAITING FOR YOUR HOMEMADE MEAL THAT WAS SERVED TO YOU AS YOU WALKED AS I HAVE HEARD . MY HUSBAND WAS AT THE BAR. I HAVE HAD A CHICKEN SALAD AND IT HAD TAKEN EXACTLY 25 MINS BECAUSE IT IS FRESH CHICKEN BREAST BAKED IN THE OVEN NOT SOMETHING MICROWAVED OR ALREADY PREPARED AS IT IS FRESH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S MY HUSBAND DID NOT RECALL OR HEAR ANY SWEARING AT YOU AT ALL
Wednesday, July 22, 2009Rating: rosettes

 Thrown Out !!!
On my birthday last week we were thrown out by the chef, for having the temerity to ask why it took 45 minutes to prepare a salad. I wouldn't mind but the place was empty except for me and my 14 year old son. Now we know why. Get to F**ing MacDonalds were his exact words. Not been thrown out of a place since I was a student nurse 25 years ago! We went up the road to the Turks Head, ordered the same thing, and timed it's arrival. 9 mins. Hmmm. don't think the new Pucky owners are going to last long....

Much like the previous poster I received food that ws wrong to my order and when I complained I was basically told that I was wrong and was made to feel stupid. The staff are a liability for J.W Lees
Sunday, June 21, 2009Rating: No rosettes

 Very poor
This was a huge disappointment after prior recommendations. Few specials, only four starters, service abysmal. We were warned lamb would take 30 minutes to cook, so we didn't order it, then the meals took 45 minutes to arrive anyway. The scallops were gritty, and staff were rude and unhelpful when we complained. I ordered a mince and onion rag pudding and got cheese and onion, which is an odd combination indeed. On the table next to us a lady who had ordered a cheese-based pastry got leek instead. Two drinks we hadn't ordered were added to the bill. Disastrous.

well run pub with excellent food and wine
astounded to hear anyone who dislikes a pub so much would go every week.

This pub/restaurant is the only one we go to on a regular basis despite tryiing many other in the area and it 8 miles away from us. the food is almost always excellent in every respect with an extensive menu, always fully availabele and with an excellent value special board daily offering three good courses for £11. The staff are again almost always fully attentive friendly and efficient, and the owners very friendly, flexible in respect of special requests party menus etc..By the way there are at least 5 other places to eat within a mile
Sunday, November 23, 2008Rating: rosettes

 Good food.
Enjoyed the meal. Food well cooked and gap between courses
well spaced. Interesting and imaginative veg including swede and parsnips. Competitively priced
just under £40.00 for 3 people
inclduding drinks. Only criticism more fish dishes could have been
offered. Stunning views of Oldham
on a nice day so suggest if going in winter, visit lunchtime to late afternoon. Good friendly service too.

My wife, our friends and myself dine there at leastonce a week but that is only because there is no-where else. The food is terrible, the staff are all mostly undertrained teenagers thrown in at the deep end. There is also this weird man called Tony who keeps coming out of and speaking to us.

 What a Shame
This used to be such a lovely pub with a great Landlord & Landlady, The new Landlord seems to have let everything go. variable opening times, access gained by three knocks on a closed & locked door when it is opened, stock missing & never replaced, beer & lager running out regularly, rude & strange landlord who never seems to work behind the bar all add up to make this a very unpleasant experience. Suggest you try the Dog & Partrisge across the road, thats where all the rest of the customers have gone !

 amazing pub
One person sticks out in this pub he's called John Houghton, i think he was the ex landlord, he's the best footballer, best singer, best dressed, funniest, but most of all a true gentleman, there is a lot of jealousy and bitterness towards him from a few people, like, ginger fish spunk jeans Archi, the big and daft twins, Shrek the rail line sweeper, pervy Millsy, Dave i can only build sub stations cunnie. Show these low life what you think of them, next time you go in the Oak put one in the pumps for John he drinks bitter! only £1.24p

fantastic pub, very warm and freindly
i recently went to the puckersly about a week ago now, apparently its just changed to new management. Can i just say that ive never been to a more freindly pub, it had such a great atmosphere. Me and my family ate there and the food was out of this world and was a very reasonable price. The landlady actually took the time out to welcome us and was very hospitable. great pub :-)

Big Kev
 An experience
This pub is in the top ten for things to do before you die. If it's women you are looking for then go somewhere else, this is one for the lads and for social people who don't mind making their own entertainment, being there's no provided. Don't play darts with the loacals, they let you win a few and then take you big once you're intoxicated.

Possibly the best watering hole in the world.
One of the few pubs in the area that serves real MAD APPLE. This is possibly the reason i was also refused service once after spending the massive sum of twelve pounds , and getting what can only be described as nailed. A real class place well worth a visit.

Well what can I say, if you like your girls to be accompanied by a colostomy bag then this is the place to go!! The word on the street is that Mark Morrison will play is first leg of his 'Return of the Mac' tour next week with Rod and Archie as support. Miss it, Miss out!!

Having been a regular for a number of years, i can honestly say that if you want a pub with music, young crowd, wide range of drinks and evening entertainment then dont come here. this place is for drink while you think, chase the ace and getting nailed. £1.50 a pint. Winner.

 Excellent specials board
I've eaten in the Puckersley many times over the last 4 years and the food is always spot on. Best to book for weekends as it's always busy. I think the one bad review dates from about the time the pub changed hands, and the service did go off for a while, but it's been OK ever since. It's just become a free house so it remains to be seen if the quality is maintained; I'm assuming it will though as I'm going tonight!
Eat from the specials board, you won't be disapointed.

Very posh place, catering to the needs of the upmarket clientele from nearby Saddleworth. Food a bit pricey, but is actually very well presented, served and cooked. Appeals mainly to the over-thirty reserved customer. If you want to impress someone, this is the place to go.

Small pub reknowned for its range of real ales. Good atmosphere, friendly clientele of all ages and persuasions. Has Sky and a decent juke box. 'Proper' pub.

 Tasty food, distasteful service
Worst service I have ever experienced. Had to wait almost an hour after placing our order. Would not have minded as much had the dining area been full and the staff polite and apologetic. Just as well we had ordered starters, otherwise would have left and gone to McDonalds. Worse still was the fact my chicken and bacon salad arrived ten minutes after everyone else's main course by which time they had almost finished. My plate arrived with absolutely no apology from the waitress. This truly was customer service of the lowest. The food was nice but hardly worth the wait. Will not be dining here again.

 Poor value, poor food
Expensive prices and poorly prepared food. Left my wife and I with upset tummies.
Apparently no experienced staff of chefs.
Very dissapointing indeed.

 general layout could be improved
great location alongside a village cricket poitch, the pub bowling green & adventure playground - what a let down when inside that there isn't the characteristic fireplace and alcoved benches & some segregation between some of the tables. But don't be put off going there - it's so much better than most pubs in the area!
