Well this lovely little pub is the very heart of keeping up traditions for chorley. A warm welcome, beautiful selections of every drink you could possible think of. Always warm the lovely landlady lisa keeps the music flowing the heating at a wonderful temperature seen as the cold chorley weather nips a bit. Everyone is always welcome. its like walking into your own living room I'm so at home. couldn't compliment the place enough.

Lynne Moores The Best Venue in Chorley - by far!!!
The newly refurbished (1 year ago today) is what Chorley was in need of.... open day/night this pub has the best entertainment, facilities and great, fresh food. Modern, tastefully decorated and with added luxuries that other venues cannot match ... you can come to the White Hart for a breakfast, lunch, dinner, a private party, to watch the live screen entertainment, have your own private booth and drinks package in the VIP Lounge, great music with their resident DJ, a drink with friends, a lively night out for the girls/guys and during the day you can even bring the whole family to dine in.

Went to the leyinn recently after the refurb , the owners have done a excellent job with the interior. But thats were it all ends the beer is too expensive , the food scandalous , the service was good i was served by a pleasent young chap from merseyside . Unfortunately it doesnt feel like a pub anymore no tellies, pool tables, dart board , gaming machine or juke box ? Get it right soon people or the you will kill the place forever

Only recently started going to this fine pub in whittle le woods. What a excellent find , it is very welcoming serving good lager and excellent ales , the landlady constantly tells us she has just received her casque marque approval of which we can see she is very proud. The food is of good quality and probably the most reasonable in the area.. So definately worth a visit.

It's got to be one of the most delapidated pub I've come accross in years, and looking at the other comments below, I'm not the first to mention it. It's filthy, not so much with dust and dirt, but the seating, carpets etc are in a real mess. It put us of eating there to be honest, because if that's what the pub looks like; I'd dread to think what the kitchens look like. We popped our head into the restaurant though, and it was almost the complete opposite. Clean, tidy, well presented staff. But we'd already been put off. You're sitting on a gold-mine there, it needs love, and unfortunatly money, putting into it.

Possibly the worst run pub we've ever been too. If the landlord and his wife spent less time getting drunk, they could probably had a sucessful beer festival and pub. We've only been a few times, and they are always drinking, making a show of themselves. The beer festival was so unorganaised, we stayed for our half and left. I'd suggest you don't do one again, it was embarasingly awful.

I'd say the best way to describe having a meal in the restaurant would be the left hand doesn't know what the right one is doing. We were in a large party, I got my lamb 1st (then they brought out 20 other meals) and THEN brought veg and THEN brought chips. I'd ordered mash; it was the LAST thing to come out. So I'd waited nearly 10 minutes for all this. Cold food. I spoke to the manager about it, she apologised about it. You can't tell me you serve everything seperatly like that for all big parties? If you do, might I suggest you get a new system. It WILL put people off! We won't be back for a big party any time soon I'm affraid.

We moved abroard 7 years ago with work, and whilst we were back this Christmas for a familly wedding, we came back to the Ley Inn, which was once our local. Really sad to see how dishevelled it's looking, and run down. The 1st thing we noticed was even the letters from the name outside have fallen off, moss everywhere. And the inside was even worse. I did ask if it been taken over by someone new, but was told it was the same owners. The staff didnt seem to have a uniform either, looking almost as scruffy as the seating. This pub was once the hub for social occasions, and its really looked like its taken a downwards turn. Every village needs a booming pub, so I hope yu get it sorted soon.

really good pub and restaurant, but the decor really lets the place down. The floor and seats are held together with tape, holes in walls, dirty seats, and really old fashioned painting/furniture. It's the only thing that really lets them down. Hope something is done with the place soon.

Southern Softies A cosy place
We walked in the Dressers for the first time in 5 years recently, and was pleased to see nothing had really changed. Good and bad. We heard the pompous loud corner near the ladies loo's was unfortunatley still there before we walked in the door. Seriously if they hang around blocking the ladies toilets like a bunch of sad little school boys, the next time we are in, I will aim a stiletto where it hurts !!!! That aside it was nice to go back in. Not too sure about the quality of the food ( we just called in for a drink - expensive), but you do get large portions. There was a large selection of ales and largers, but as we had 2 real 'CAMRA experts' with us they were not happy with the hand pulls, and the largers were too warm. Men !! The wine was also expensive. We will call in again before we head off 'down sarf', but joking apart PLEASE move those pillocks from around the ladies loos - it does nothing for the pub and does honestly put women off going back to the pub as we have to force our way through every time. If you want to turn it into a gay bar and exclude women then fine keep it as it is - if you want to keep a balanced clientele coming back, then do something about it please. You would have got a 4 out of 5, but due to the above you get a 1 !!

Northern Exiles ! More of an eating than drinking place
We called in here again recently when visiting friends and the Golden Lion now seems to be in 2 minds at what it wants to be. The whole pub has now been setup more as an eating place than a place to go for a drink and it doesn't work. Dont get me wrong the food looks good and the beer is fine, but I am not a fan of sitting in lines of tables that are only setup to get the maximum amount of people in to eat. It feels cold and 'school dinner time', with nothing going for someone who wants a relaxing pint without feeling the are sat in Sid's Cafe. Such a shame as now living South of Watford, we enjoy coming to real pubs back home.

Andrea Coulthard A great experience from start to finish
I work all over the country, and therefor travel, stay over at hotels and eat out a lot. And I must say, I wish everywhere had a Ley Inn. Myslef and my co-workers booked a table in the morning, even the managaress' telephone manner was pleseant and helpful, thus leading me to think we were on to a winner, as it were. The room is very lovely, nicely decorated and homely. We all had battered mushrooms and the Chicken Sizzler. Yes we waited bit, but it just goes to show the food is cooked and not 'pinged' in a microwave. The bar staff were helpful in finding a perfect real ale for David my co-worker, and as for myself, it was the great wine list that caught my eye. We will be visiting again when we are in the area. It makes a great changed to have propper food when you live out of a suicase and a car. The manageress and all the staff were lovely to talk to, and she gave me some great places to visit whilst in the area (botany bay? - lovely) So a big thanks from us,and dont let the negative comments cut skin. Well my experience of the Ley Inn was TERRIBLE it wasn't so much the food that bothered me but the young waitress was awfully rude! She called my daughter a 'spoilt brat' because she didn't want peas and wanted beans. She also made a joke about my bottom! I was extremely embaressed and will not be eating there again! It's an awful shame as i have previously been there before for my wedding reception which was a lovely event. Now when i think of the Ley Inn i no longer think of the wonderful time i had on my wedding i think of a snotty waitress telling me my childs a 'spoilt brat'!

I have to agree with John Bradburn and Elisse! I went to the Ley Inn a few weeks ago and i found the service was awful! i waited 25 minutes for my order to be taken and a further 50 before my order was served. I was accompanied by 3 young children and another 3 adults. The childrens meals were served approximetly 20 minutes before the adults meals. This meant the children were eating at a different time to the adults, and as we went out altogether as a family i would have prefered to eat as a family! This set an unpleasent atmosphere already and this was before we even started eating! When the food arrived we found the turkey was cold and there was mearly a spoon full of gravy upon the entire meal. The children then complained the mash like John said was 'fall off the spoon SMASH' I was disapointed and disgusted by what i found! Thank you, Joanne!

We come every month with my elderly mother for the braising steak which my father in law adores, and of course my mixed meat roast dinner. And as for this previous comment about boil in the bag meat and smash -it isn't-, they are just benig pedantic. Very nice place, people & food.

a moment to forget..utter disgrace from the word go..one and a half hours to get our main meal..No mention of this when ordering.our meal was advertised as THE SUNDAY ROAST...dont be fooled people..on arrival this cringeworthy dish contained roast beef sandwich meat (boil in the bag fodder) 2 rather soggy snide roast potato's..a spoonfull of gravy (tea-spoon)...and then...wait for it.....CHIPS. yes you read it right..CHIPS. i said to the waitress..who ordered chips? she just laughed and looked at me blank. i said its a sunday roast innit? what about boiled potatoes? or mash? she said..ok i'll get you mash.... then came the mash (smash) sloppy fall off the fork SMASH... all this by the way was stone cold...i wasnt prepared to wait another hour or two so i just pretended it was the last supper....SO... never again.they knocked us a fiver off the bill but to be honest..i'd have got a better meal at Macdonalds to be fair

Went to the Lay Inn for my birthday. It took them 40 minutes to bring our starters, then another 20 to collect the dishes. The table next to us had been waiting an hour and they were told, along with us, that they shouldnt come with a big party in as they are served first. After waiting for an hour and 15 minutes for our meals, they brought chips with a roast dinner, to which i responded with 'im not from a council house, wheres my mash?'. The roast beef was sandwich meat and full of fat, my younger brother had lasagna, which was burnt to a crisp. After complaining they knocked £7 off the bill... we still had to pay the other £50 which was unreasonable as we didnt enjoy it at all.

Katie eccentric = real | ||
I am a regular at this pub and love it for the eccentricity (like getting carrots with fish & chips). This is a pub that has not been infected with the trappings of modern customer service (where everyone smiles, regardless of the mood their in). Sometimes everything runs smoothly and sometimes there is crisis and panic. The people are 'real'. The food is really good most of the time and they sort it out if it's noit. All products are brought locally so they help keep local business alive. Oh, and if you live locally and suffer a bereavement, it is widely believed that if you haven't had the wake at the sea view, you haven't had a proper send off!!

Our two 4 year olds were stood up but not running around when we were asked by a man in a rugby shirt who I can only assume had sometjing to do with the running of the pub to please keep our children under control and sitting so that they didnt knock into people with drinks.(good job i didnt tell him about the two dogs tied up outside who were possibly obstructing a wooden bench on a freezing cold day!)By the way there were about ten people at the most in the pub. Needless to say we left quickly and wont be returning.

I recently came for a meal the other weekend with some friends. The food was good but the waitresses were a little on the 'ditzy' side, instead of carefully carrying it to the table it seemed as though they was aimlessly wandering about, when they finally found us, it was promptly plonked down in front of us, they didnt seem to be well trained. also it was rather difficult enjoying our food whilst a grubby large female chef was at the bar yelling to a member of staff. Other than what i have mentioned it was an enjoyable meal, the surroundings were quite inviting and clean.

paula Great find | ||
We set out to find this pub after reading a favourable review in the local paper. It is easy to find being opposite Asda. The staff were all very friendly and we soon got the hang of the place, menus dotted around the room showing specials, alongside the menu on the table. Two Sunday Roasts were ordered and these arrived very quicky and were delicious, these were followed by a bread and butter pudding and a toblerone cheesecake. My husband went back later that week with his pal for the steak and a sundae offer which is £10 on a Tuesday. A great find, we will be back

Tommy Rice is Chorleys best entertainer by far and he performs in many pubs in Chorley. He hasnt yet performed in The George but this is about to become reality. Matt Mason, Tommy Rice's event organiser is pleased that Tom is getting to explore different pubs in the area.

DJ Gordy Porter rocks this joint until the early morn. His awareness to the new grooves on the dance scene is second to none. On the rare occasion he teams up with Tommy Rice (next Elton John) and puts on a great set. The pub is open late on the weekend and the barmaids are the bizz. Situated near the Police station so behave. Gary Lee the barman from the Fox has made a move across town to become head bar manager which is a huge step up the ladder from being a steward at Chorley FC.

Truck Driver Village of the Damned
I must admit, it is some time since I've been here but from what I hear, it hasn't changed. Everyone goes quiet if a stranger walks in, and it feels as if everyone of them is staring at you. Wierd.

Truck Driver Real Ale Paradise
Very small pub just out of the town centre. If you like real ale though, this is the place to go in Chorley. The selection is superb and it changes to something different virtually by the week.

Truck Driver cosy back street local
More than 30 people in here and it appears packed because everyone seems to hang around the bar area whilst the seating remains empty. What a funny place though. Everyone seems really pally and the joking, larking about and leg pulling amongst the regulars can be hilarious. Watch out for an old red faced guy that belches all the time. Went in there earlier this year on a games night and everyone in there, landlord included, was plastered. It was like actually being on the set of 'Cheers', and even had the postman sat at the bar!! Good laugh.

Joe Soap Town Centre Pub for the Unemployed
Fortunately, I believe this place is now having a little cash spent on tarting it up. I always called it the Velcro Carpet due to the way my feet stuck on it and the ripping sound when you walked about. Oh, and it was like groundhog day every time you walked in, same people in the same places and very few of them work for a living. Not a nice place, and somewhere I now avoid.

Deamo Great Family Pub | ||
The Ley is a great pub. It is in a lovely area away from main roads with a huge car park. It has just been extended with a new restaurant and games room. the grounds are excellent for kids with a custom built playground outside. The food is good value and you get plenty of it. Beer a bit pricy though.

Kezz Better than was | ||
This use to be a crap hole. But it has been refurbed and got new managers in there. It's hell of a lot better than it was. Use to be a bit scary going in but now it's a really good night out. IMO Called in at a lunchtime as well and had something to eat. Very good and big portions. Would recomend a new visit, even if you use to avoid it b4

Hi, I would like some more information on this pub as I know someone who lived in the house above the pub as a child. The parents name was Latham. She now lives in South Africa and would like to find out about her past. Please contact us Thank You.
