Pit full of nazis, pedophiles and criminals
A pub that truly attracts the lowest of the low, hosts parties for nazi groups, regular customers include many ex cons including atleast two known locally for child sex convictions.
Even over a decade ago the drinks all had a funny taste if drunk from a glass, most used bottles as they had the extra advantage of doubling as a weapon.

 Absolutely awesome food and service!!
I wrote earlier though my email confirmation which I received is a blank email so re-write! I called asking if can order a meal and though the kitchen was closed was told would open it to make me a meal which was unusual in itself, however I arrived 40 minutes late than agreed and despite this was astonished the chef still asked if I wish he re-open the kitchen and cook! I had fillet tails in whisky cream sauce veg and for dessert jam rolly polly which not had since a kid. The Lancashire Herald gave the pub 9/10 for the food, to me not enough, the food I would give 10/10 and 11/10 for the whole family going out of their way to satisfy a customer, awesome lets face it, I eat out often and have done so in most counties, none before have been willing to even make a sandwich if the kitchen closed... please if you have had similar service please tell me... I doubt anyone can! lol. I recommend the pub to anyone ,very pleased and now home with a full stomach and my faith restored in human nature :)

 Absolutely awesome family and food!!!
I called to ask for a meal and though the kitchen was closed was told would prepare a meal, however I was 40 minutes late the kitchen closed down so ordered my drink quite a bit miserable lol I sat outside and the chef came out and amazingly said he would start the kitchen back up and i'm having fillet tails in whiskey cream sauce, recommend it to anyone it's really tasty very tender and the service very friendly, lovely welcoming family who obviously will go out of their way to satisfy customers, I shall be a frequent visitor as just found the best pub with great food I have actually been to in my whole life and believe me I have been to many :) I see outside the Lancashire Telegraph gave 9/10 for the food, myself would give10/10 for the food and 11/10 for the way the service that never expected to receive and lets face it, I doubt anyone could say similar to what happen with me tonight.. could anyone???? No thought not lol

 Diabolical food and service
A large group of friends recently went along to the newly renovated Craven Heifer for food and a catch up. The food was consistently poor quality - rock hard burgers, dry onion rings, the oiliest curry we've ever seen etc etc. The two women behind the bar were more interested in chatting with the locals than clearing the plates so we sat with half eaten food around us for ages until we cleared them ourselves. Our friend's little girl waited well over an hour for her burnt, tasteless meal with no apologies or explanation from the disinterested staff. It's not possible to pay by card either which seems ridiculous when there isn't a cash point close by. 2 out of the 3 ladies toilets were out of order which isn't great for a family pub. We will never be back for food here. Don't waste your time.

We visited the Traders arms on Saturday whilst out for a drive. The panoramic views from outside the pub are excellent stretching all around the Mellor countryside! The bar is warm and friendly. There is an extensive menu on offer and Thwaites real ales are on tap.

I visited the Grey Horse on Saturday 23rd June 2012 whilst seeing some friends who live in the area. My first impression of the pub was a little mixed, the outside is clean & tidy, but there was a hand written A board on the pavement advertising some of the products on offer. Unfortunately, the sign looked like it was written by a child & the words Fosters & Thwaites were spelt incorrectly.

The inside of the premises were well decorated & relatively clean.

Now the bad news.

It wasn't overly busy but there were quite a few dirty glasses on the tables. It took over 5 minutes to get served due to the fact that the barmaid had to finish her conversation first. The other main problem is the amount of dogs in the main room (I counted 8). I'm not a great dog lover, but, each to their own I suppose. I was amazed when the Landlord came down the stairs & placed food on the bar & tables, surely there has to be some hygiene rules being broken here?

The smoking area is a small backyard with a table & about 5 chairs. The pubs wheelie bins are also kept in the smoking area, I wouldn't want to be there on a warm day. Also, there were a few patches against the wall, which I can only presume were dog urine.

The toilets absolutely stunk & appeared as though they hadn't been cleaned for weeks.

On the whole. It could be a nice pub one day, but under the current owners/tenants I would recommend giving the place a very wide berth.

Unfortunatly Duckworth has fallen in to disrepair and sadly i think it could well be demolished and luxury flats are in the pipeline.

 Wanting Pictures
I would dearly love to have pictures, inside and out, of the Duckworth Hall Inn. This is my family name and I intend to travel there in the future, as my roots are at Duckworth Hill. I would also love to have any accomanying picture, relative to Duckworth Hill and that area. My Wife and I will be there in two to three years, we hope.

What a lovely pub. Gleaming clean when you walk in. Very busy around weekend nights, just as pubs used to be.
Building up a good reputation for their buffets in their back room.
Give it a try, as I did.

 delightful, mmm
myself and a friend had a wonderful lunch today at the Hyndburn Bridge. I had fish and chips, the batter was so light it was a wonder it stayed on the plate and My friend could not speak only nod over the steak and ale pie!
Sheer greed made us ask for desserts, we were not disapointed, the sticky toffee pudding was home made and to die for, I have a friend from the lake district who considers hisself a connissuer, well we shall see!!!!!!!!!!!
The place is open spacious bright clean and sort of olde worlde, service brilliant and friendly shall return soon

 Friendly hosts and good food
My friend and I meet at a mid-pont from our respective homes - Hellifield and Sale. The Bridge at Hyndburn has become a favourite. The Landlady and her Husband are very friendly and the food is good. We are hardly their best customers, meeting every month or so and for the hours we take up room in the pub, they don't make a huge amount out of us. However we are always made welcome and enjoy our times there. I hope that these new tenants are a great success, they deserve it

 now Usha - indian
Hey, this website needs updating - the brown cow is now and Indian. When it first changed hands we visited and I must admit we were very impressed but years on and things have changed. It's just not the same anymore - food is not the same, nor service and the prices are quite expensive. Friendly staff I must admit - but I would rather have delicious food. I think they need to make some improvements and get their customers back. There are now many Indian places to eat - lots of competition about so please Usha get your act together and improve.

 Eating out
We have been eating out at the Britannia now for about a month, we go every Saturday and now that we are on summer holidays we have been going lots more. The food is excellent - I can't stress this enough, we have tried lots now off the menu and have loved everything. The staff are wonderful inc the bar staff, food is served hot and fast. The prices on the menu are brilliant, very good value for money. I just want to say how much this place has improved - you really must try it.

We go to the Old Mother Redcap around every 2 weeks, It's good value & acceptable for the price you pay, staff are always polite & service is very good, but on Friday 9th April the table staff wer very casual laid back, tables dirty, tables not cleared, cutlery not filled up, glasses left on ledges, it was so disappointing to see it like this, I've seen a sloth move quicker. For this visit the scoring is 3 sorry bar staff, carvery & Kitchen staff that the table staff let you down.

After many visits to this restaurant I can honestly say that the previous 2006 comment is not warranted. I have found the staff to be excellent and the food to be good. If you have a problem the staff are only to happy to listen and sort it out. I have never been a fan of annonymous comments and the one from 2006 should be edited out.

 SHAMEFUL & A DISGRACE
Having known the Lomax Arms for over 30 years, seeing it decline in the last 3 years, then being turned into an 18 (or under) pub with the last young couple, it is great to see that the pub is back to what it was years ago - Namely clean, fresh, airy, great staff, a superb pint and food to come I believe.
You want a great local pub then come here, everyone is made very welcome.
Shame on the past owners!!!!!!
Thursday, July 31, 2008Rating: rosettes

In reply to Debz I would like to point out that the Lomax is now a clean pub with decent people going in. It is a shame that people cant recognise change & live in the modern century not the past. Its just a shame that the pub hasnt found a decent DJ....!!! Maybe people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones.
A visit to the Lomax is well worth it and you will get a decent drink and a welcoming smile.

Feildens Arms is a fantastic place to eat drink or stay. It consists of good home cooked food made from local produce served in a warm friendly environment by helpful and smiling staff. It has had a rough few years with different owners but the new owners took over last October. I love it there and go on many occasions for lunch or tea as they have a brilliant 2 course for 8.95 menu. The menu is due to change again soon and i can't wait i have managed to have a sneaky peak at the new menu and it is to die for. Anyone that wants to try somewhere new and wants good value for money in friendly environment i really do reccomend this place. Oh p.s there is an act on on the 14th of June it is always a really good night so everyone come along.

 The NEW Duckworth Hall
My wife and I visited the Duckworth Hall for the first time in quite a while. We were dellighted at the changes the new landlord and landlady Paul and Joanne have made. The pub has a lovely family atmosphere and we were made very welcome as soon as we arrived. The food was delicious, my wife hade the homemade minced beef and onion pie and chips I had the chicken breast with back pudding and creamy pepper sauce with potatoes and veg. Lovely!!!! Thursday night is Steak night (free bottle of wine with 2 steaks)and Wed night is Quiz night. Real effort is being made by the family ~ entertainment is on every month and is very popular. They have also introduced an additional cask ale for the real ale lovers!!!!
Delightful proper pub! We will be back.

Good pub, excellent service, very friendly.
I recently visited this pub as I heard it was under new management and I had a lovely time. The young landlord and landlady are a lovely couple who greet you with a welcome that makes you want to go back. The atmosphere was great and the place had a warm and friendly feel to it. I also beleive they now have live entertainment on and also a DJ at weekends. I will definitly be calling in again because although run by a young couple it is still a traditional style pub of which there isnt many these days.

 Rushed service and unwashed salad
Actually found the food ok except for the salad leaves which had traces of earth on them.

Let down badly by the service, I know it was Halloween and the staff were rushing to get off, but it was a family celebration and they only took half the dessert orders and when we asked for coffee at 8:50pm, we were told not possible as the machine had been put away for the night.

Also one of our family is in a wheelchair, and the wheelchair access path is overgrown with prickly hedges so Mum suffered a few scratches going in and out of the establishment

 Slow and cold
Well after waiting for over 1hr on what was a quiet day, I ordered the leg of lamb which came slightly warm, but by the time the rest of the party had their food, mine was stone cold and on request of it being redone i was told that it wasnt their fault. Eventually they had to reheat the food.
Good besides that, but still give it a try, things might have changed :)

bar staff are excellent and the food is very good value, but to be threatened on the premesis by an off duty chef for some jokes, that all other staff and guests were telling like wise, is a bit much and as he is a chef and access to my meals i will no longer be eating there.
I would love for the area managers to be able to read this but alas that is doubtful.

 Amazing
Me and the wife visited last friday. I ordered the mushroom starter off the board, and lynda had the smoked salmon, amazing!!!
This was followed up by the mixed grill - too big to mention, but had everything, all cooked to perfection.
Lynda opted for the chicken risotto, which was intended for a special starter, but had a main course size, which was - as the fine lady quotes one of the best she's had
I'd definitely recommend this fine public house to anyone!
The staff were really lovely, and the prices were extremely reasonable.
I for one, will return, and leave, once again satisfied, i'm sure, Job well done!!

 You will return!
I had been made aware previously that the business had slipped and things werent up to standard.
However i now generally eat in a restaurant at least once a week, and the Britannia is without doubt one of the ones i visit regularly.
The previous rating is seriously out-dated, and as i gather most of you wouldnt necesarily listen to the son of the landlord... I as a customer am saying GO! The food is of good quality and fairly priced, the staff are polite and friendly. Its well worth a visit, and for a gambling man... its a safe bet you'd return.

Friendly atmosphere, good food, great entertainmen
The craven heifer pub is a great place to go for something to eat. The food is fantastic (especially the chicken, bacon, lettuce and mayo wrap). It is also good for entertainment as they have wide screens for football, kareoke nights and quiz nights, and live bands. Good friendly, fun atmosphere.

A good pub and a great time
What an excellent pub! The bar staff are friendly and the punters are not bad either. Get along there sometime and ask Ross, Ste or Martin about all the special offers. Cheap and large screen TV thrown into the bargain

I found the food to be delightful, really well presented and above all tasty, the prime fillet is yummy and the garlic mushroom starter is soooo creamy you'll be wanting more all night, overall an excellent meal and would recommend the place to anyone!!!!

 Sunday meal
Having visited the Brittania Inn Haslingdon Old Rd today Sunday 4/7/04 I have to say it was awful, my husband and friend ordered steak, which came cold !, I had the bangers and mash! packet mash, 3 tiny sausage!, and an abundance of wet and soggy frozen veg . When asked if this was ok I told them it wasnt and was offered something else, I opted for jacket potatoe, to which they replied they didnt do them but would I wait 10 mins, up came the spud complete with the obligitory salad and a lovely black patch in the spud, well !!!we carried on regardless then went to sit in the sulubrious bar area, with its torn seating and unpolished tables, I have to say it was a truly awsome experiance, one which we will not repeat ever again. For a staggering 42 for 3, I shall visit my local friendly butcher and get my own steak, ( for much less ).

love the craic - proper drinkers pub...
well were do i start. firstly the 'dun' is very popular and rightly so. it is clean and friendly with an exceptional pint of thwaites best bitter. which is followed by the excellent serve by the welcoming staff and management. on the down side there is no food served in this establishment and i am told their will be a beer yard fitted within the forth coming months. it is a pleasure to accidental stumble on such an atmospheric and historic public house

Great pub, great staff, great people. Had the best laugh for ages in here. Let your hair down, have a drink or 7. Food's pretty good as well. Karaoke night was on Thursday, bit loud but hey if you like it like that then get down there. Plenty of guys & gals to look at as well ;o)
