During the 1980's we used to go n stay at the black dog as my mum was friends with the landlady...such good memories.when the landlady...mavis...left my mum lost touch.i was only young n dont really remember why. my mum, hilda,passed away in jan 2013 and im trying to find mavis..she had 2 sons n a daughter n her husband was-well a bit of a misery!! thats all i remember really.i think her daughter was called claire and one of her sons called johnathon...plz reply if u have any information.many thanks.

Hulton Arms Tony - Owner Bolton Stevo Get your facts right !!!!
I would like to put a few facts on this site rather than people making up there own stories which Stevo seems to be doing. The manager has not been sacked and is still working today, a senior bar person was asked to leave owing to a situation which I am not not prepared to talk about on here. The staffs hours have been adjusted to fall in line with the downturn you see in trade during Jan & feb, people generally dont spend as much money in these months, so why should I pay for 2 staff when 1 will do, thats good business. The Carvery has a new chief starting this saturday as the old one hs moved away, I eat in there last week and was very happy with the quality. Now as for me, as anyone who knows me my job is to go into a place turn it around and move onto another place, I spent 5 months working every hour and abourt £25000 of my money on turning the Hulton around, when I was happy I moved onto my next venture, you dont see Richard Branson working in his shops, flying his planes and driving his Trains !!!! Now I am not going to say there have not been teathing issues, but generally I am very happy with the way things are being run. I have checked my CCTV and can not find one occcassion when Stuart the manager has been never been drunk or merry on duty, he does drink there when he is off duty, but thats allowed, I think you might be getting the other person mixed up with him. Some people only want to see the negatives on any pub, it is taking 4 times what it did when I took over in August 2012, the place was redecoarted, Sky, live bands, new tables & chairs. If you want me sell it at it go back to it being empty then ok, I wont loose my money, but I am convinced the hulton is a good pub with nice customers and looking at most of the comments they are positive people like the Hulton, My Team work hard to serve beer with a smile, I visit the pub at least twice a week and will ensure comments like this do not appear again Tony - Landlord

Come to the conclusion that sadly, this pub is going under, landlord is more interested in his hotel now, Hes cutting hours from the staff left right and centre, the carvery is rubbish, the pub manager is an arse who drinks on the job most of his shift and does not help the girls behind the bar, the bar manager has been sacked! Flag Inn Steve Bolton Great Pub!
This old style pub is set in the heart of Bromley cross in Bolton, the pub has old stone flooring and cask ales are on sale. The pub I visited on a Friday evening and found it busy with a great atmosphere. The customers are 30s/40s and friendly all round. The range of beers is good, from cask ales to the general lagers that we have become to expect from most pubs. A good experience, I will certainly recommend.

went in last night, great pub, great locals. well done for turning this place around. was slightly concerned as bar man was miserable , didnt make conversation and was having a go at a lady who was in with 5 others. told her she was being loud, in my opinion she wasnt, but it escolated and the bar man barred her for no apparrant reason, turns out after she left, i found out she was deaf!!! No wonder she was louder than the others. disgusting behaviour just because land lord was on holiday and left him in charge.

On viewing this comment let me defend myself. First of all may I say that if you had bought a drink in the first place, maybe Tony the last landlord would still be in the pub. As it was quite obvious to see the reason why he left ( ever increasing bills ). As documented in the Bolton Evening News. Now back on the subject of being barred. On four occasions I have had various problems with this lady. Two occasions she accused my Dj Russ winstanley and Diane herring of stealing out of her whilst left behind the Dj stand. And two other occasions of not buying a drink. But the best one being accusing my bar staff of short changing her. When checking back on CCTV it was pointed out that she had not even been to the bar to purchase a drink. When asked about this she said her friend had bought her one. Again when quizzed she admitted she hadn't bought a drink. To which she was asked to leave.

This place used to be such a cracking pub until the current Landlord and Landlady took over, they were most rude and abusive on my last visit, i'd merely mentioned that they had got my order wrong! I certainly won't be returning. I've also heard tales from some of the regulars about them being drunk whilst working and attacking customers. Give it a miss.

This pub has come on leaps and bounds recently. It did close down not too long ago but has re-opened and has more real ale on offer. Local emphasis with 'Bank Top' being served. Good hi tech jukebox along with plasma screens. Friendly place.

I do not know what has happened to Blundel arms food At one time it was exceedingly nice but having been twice of late I could not recommend. My friend thought it was ok but I thought it terrible. Having had steak one night and a roast dinner both were terrible. Luke warm, not fresh (the veg) the steak overcooked and tasteless! Get a new chef, business is going downhill!!!

Our experiences of the Blundell Arms would challenge the desires of even the most severely gastronomically destitute; the two rump steaks would have outlasted the soles on my current pair of shoes which have themselves provided sterling service over the last 12 months. Neither steak was cooked to instructions. The sirloin steak “well done” was oozing blood sufficient to transfuse a severely anaemic cow. The accompanying chips were massive soggy offerings and quite tasteless. Our vegetarian member had to endure an undercooked and tasteless pie of questionable contents. The rump steaks were returned to the kitchen after 30 minutes mastication had failed to make any impression on the first mouthful. After a prolonged wait, fresh rump steaks were produced again with doorstep soggy chips, and were edible and just about cooked to order. After remonstrating with the manageress over the very poor quality of food and service and suggesting a complimentary round of drinks, these were grudgingly produced. At no stage did anyone come to our table to check on our (lack of) satisfaction. Our experiences were distressing enough, but the blind indifference of the Blundell Arms to our complaints leads me to wonder how it continues to trade.

Nice looking pub however food was disgusting. Average pub tea prices steak just over £10 but tasted awful - worst pub tea we've ever had. We have never known steak to taste like liver!!! Last 2 visits, pub empty, staff unfriendly. Last 2 visits for pub food, terrible. Went last night service didn't let me down, rubbish yet again! Waited 30 mins for a coffee! went for lunch today with a friend. we waited over an hour for our food to arrive, and when it did it was cold. my friends dish was described as hand carved ham which it definately wasnt. We waited another 5 mins for the manager to arrive who was very rude. he proceeded to talk over me and said that they were only doing chrictmas parties. when I questioned why we were allowed to order food he then replied that he wasnt going to tun away a booking. When I tried to complain his response was to walk off. The barman (whilst speaking with a receipt dangling from his mouth)aggreed that the managers attitude was appaling, I have been several times before and had good meals but will never go there again

Unity Brook Inn RHYS Bolton
My sister and i work at the Unity Brook Inn. It is true. Its amazing how much nicer it is... Another great attraction here is the HUGE car park which has cctv recorded 24/7. There is also internal recorded cctv as well - which adds a warm feeling of safety in this day and age. Outside there is also a children's play area, and lots of benches for people to sit with a cold beer or a hot drink - or even a meal. Its a great little pub - but don't take my word for it - come and see for yourself!!

Bridge Inn Heather Bolton brill pub
This really is a brilliant pub. Everyone is friendly the atmosphere is warm, the bar staff are happy and love to interact with the customers. If your ever in or near Horwich then come and have a drink in this pub, you won't be disapointed. When I first came in this pub I was a stranger but now I'm a friend. Everyone has become like my 2nd family, I know if I'm upset at anytime there is always someone to help cheer me up. You couldn't ask for a better bunch of people who are connected with this pub.

Barnstormers The Barnstormers Crew Bolton The place to be on a saturday night
This pub is the best!!! Its open til l8 so you can go and have a few beers around horwich then get a taxi to barnstormers and it's not dear at all. You need to make sure your there before 12!! Or Darren, Andy and Lou will not let you past!! (there scary) You get in the beer is cheap and the ppl are great!! You'll dance the night away and before you know it its time to go. You can have sing song aswell on a thurs fri and sat so get practicing!! The Guy's behind the bar are nice and Andy the new landloard makes you feel right at home!! Been coming here for years.The food is always good, if not rather expensive,but you never get any morons in the place-I guess that's what you are paying for. The bank top beer is always in good condition. Chef and Brewer is a good brand of pub.

Best Pub in Bolton, but if you are a bit of a Dk Head and do Drugs - this IS NOT the place to be seen. You will NOT be tolerated. They rule with an iron fist !! - If you want to go out, have a good drink, meet friendly regulars (well most are! )- and feel very safe - then this is the place to be - Nice people - Welcome - Dk Heads !!! - Don't even think about it !!

Ye Olde Man & Scythe The Rebel! Bolton Finally got her own way
Staff are all friendly and polite, and most smile all the time! I must say when I walk in there and a glass is already under the tap awaiting, i'm happy. Balls to pub courses saying you shoudn't assume a customers drink! I think there is only one in there! Thatchers! (although I don't drink it) So, there is a decent jukebox, many a live band and even sometimes Miss Martell (woo hoo?!?) Gets loud and stuffy on a busy night, but all the regulars are happy, and you can't beat their banter (nor get away from it!)

I have bieng going to this pub on & off for 20 years, & I have to say that the beer is overpriced & the landlady is not very polite! Best thing that could happen to this pub is to get new management in that does not prance around in period dress & walk around assif they are royalty! Also I'm sure most of the regulars are barred now as thay don't suit the landlady's taiste in people!

A cracking pub that has a hotel across the court yard as well!!! Friendly & helpful staff, with well kept beers & cracking food. Big screen football always packs them in & the quiz on Thursday is probably the best in Bolton!!!

This must be Bolton's best pub. Walking from the front door to the end of the bar, you might encounter The Lads watching the footy, the old lady singing Irish ballads in the corner, the man with many tattooes; the barman who's reading Philosophy or my crowd - mature students comparing notes. And the Landlord is great. He's not a laugh a minute, but he has a dry sense of humour and he knows exactly how a pub should be run (at least from a punter's perspective). Good choice of beers, very welcoming, excellent service - but the clientel is priceless.

Park andy Bolton small,old fashioned local.
This is the place to be in Farnworth on a Friday/Saturday after 10pm . Superbly entertaining,with a Karaoke and a bit of mad dancing thrown in for good measur.. Staff knowledgable and friendly,especially if you become a regularish customer.Good atmosphere. Beer good at a sensible price.

Blundell Arms Christine hogg Bolton disaster zone! avoid at all costs.
This was possibley one of the worst meals I have ever had. It was a seventies night ? In an old fashioned pub? Noisy, the service was dreadful- had to wait 40 minutes for a meal which came from a microwave (soggy pastry) etc. and instant mashed potatoe. Expensive rubbish. Have been using this pub for about 6 years now but this is the last time.
