Emma Porter Welcoming country pub. Good food and wine.
| The Aikton Arms is a welcoming family friendly pub near Wigton. The roaring open fire, homemade local food and good selection of wine make it hard to leave. The Cumberland sausage main and homemade crumble puddings are especially good. | ||

Mr. Metcalfe Why Go Anywhere Else?
| I visited the auctioneer a couple of weeks ago with 13 other family members ranging in age from 2 to 60. Our family gatherings are a regular event, usually in different places, but like i said, why go anywhere else? We were all more than happy with the food, the service, the atmosphere and the price. We left the auctioneer with big smiles on our faces, and would reccomend it to everyone. | ||

Andrew Johnston Fantastic Food, Great Atmosphere!
| We stopped off at the Lane End Inn last sunday 12th october 08, sunday roast was the best i have tasted in a long time, vegetables were fresh and tasty, most importantly still had bit to them. The Beef was tender and tasty, and the homemade Desserts were to die for, and as for the service i couldnt ask for better. We wll definately be going back! | ||

Pam Chettle Dreadful | ||
| We went to the pub for Sunday Lunch and I can honestly say that in more than fifty years it was the worst Sunday Lunch I had ever had. The Savoy cabbage wasn't cooked, the carrots weren't cooked, the swede tasted of disinfectant, the yorkshire pudding was soggy, even the english mustard didn't taste right. The service was extremely slow. We did complain about the food and the people on the next table to us said they felt the same about the food but I don't think they were brave enough to complain. | ||

F Turner Nice atmosphere & staff, food is nothing special
| Decided to stop for a meal here on Sunday 31st 2008 at around 6pm with the family. The Pub itself has a lovely cosy atmosphere, and the conservatory dining room we were politely shown to was clean and spacious. Waiters and waitresses, though very young were polite and attentive. Food was very disappointing to us. The beef I had was just so bland; the carrots and peas boiled to death and tasteless; the roast potato so dry not even the gravy could save it. Haddock was strangely tasteless, and a slice of steak pie held little beef, and a lot of pastry. There was half a plate of chips to fill them up though, which always makes us angry (7+ quid for half a plate of chips!?) However, on the plus side the cabbage still had bite to it, and my swede mash was seasoned beautifully! Feeling annoyed though, we chose not to stay for dessert. I'm not sure if the Lane End Inn is owned by a large company, but it has the feel of it. Overall, definitely a pleasant, family friendly place, and seems to easily cater for groups. Seems to rely on the quantity over quality theory, with massive portions (great if you like chips, no?) But if you want to dine out on good, reasonably priced food, that leaves you feeling satisfied, there are definitely better places nearby. | ||

Hellsbells NIce menu, good selection
| The Coachouse at Heads Nook has a very well laid out menu with several themes such as chinese, american, english etc. With starters and main courses in each section it is easy to select a delicious combination. They also serve traditional pub grub and most importantly ....home made chips! We go back again and again! Great for families and babies too. | ||

alan sutherland disappointment @ queens Arms
| Following rave reviews we called in on our way back to Newcastle but it has changed hands - the cactus display is no substitute for a real fire and the overpriced 'curry' worth a miss. Lax service and chilly welcome - we wont be back. | ||

Ian McNab auctioneer- carlisle
| I was in the auctioneer last night 1/10 with a group of people with learning difficulties. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, even though I had to get receipts for every single thing. Most importantly, the roast beef was the best I have had in years, and my clients assured me the lamb and lasagne were first rate. Many thanks. | ||

Sam Evans Good Pub | ||
| I had the pleasure recently of staying at the Fox and Pheasant for a few days, all I can say is stunning, a good standard of room with possibly the best breakfast I have ever had the pleasure of trying to eat (it's big!). The bars are full of interesting friendly people and I was made to feel perfectly at home. The evening meals are excellent and good value, all this with good beer and hospitality, Steve and his staff can do no wrong! | ||

Stewart Lakes Food here
| The food here used to be the best on the planet under the ownership of Messrs Glass and Brown. Since those days, it's gone down hill fast and food is very hit and miss. The only plus point is being able to get a table on a Saturday night, something you couldn't do when the previous owners were in situ. Sauces served with the majority of dishes are watery and bland and the overall standard can vary dreadfully from week to week. Take you chance if you will but I think if I were inclined, I'd be going back to the nearby Dukes Head for more predictable food. | ||
