Perhaps itâ€™s as well that the Christie Commission has been â€œquietly carrying out its workâ€ on the furtue delivery of public services in Scotland. That probably helped ensure considered and measured analysis of the issues. Scotland then needs, however, a very open and inclusive debate on the conclusions of the Commission. The lack of more of an opening up of government and governance in Scotland after devolution, beyond the establishment of Holyrood has been for many Scottish people a great disappointment.An almost concurrent exercise was the Calman Commission, which looked at the working of existing devolution arrangements. The scalding treatment of SCVO delegates by a group of MPs in the Scottish Select Committeeâ€™s recent hearings on the Scotland Bill was an unedifying example of what happens when you tread on some people's institutionalised lawns; even in devolved Scotland.It is commendable that a point pressed by CIPFA and the directors is the need to redirect public resources now to the preventative and early years' stages where intervention reaps later social benefitsâ€. The resources to deliver some existing, essential and core public services are just not going to be made available under the enforced political â€˜consensusâ€™ that we apparently must all now contend with. Preventative investment will be a necessary response to achieving the maximum benefit for the Scottish population for every public pound invested.I would only add that co-production will be another essential element â€“ and the effective, meaningful participation of end-service-users in all fields of service delivery is something that will need a still-awaited, and fundamental, culture change across the public services.

New Inn Ian Parker St Neots Great value
We visited the New Inn while on a boating holiday, the food and drink was delicious and great value for money. The staff were pleasant and made us feel very welcome. I would thoroughly recommend it as a good place to eat

Market Inn monk Huntingdon PHONED NITE CURFEW WHAT!
I phoned Nite Curfew to see when they were comming back to the market inn I was told that a booking had been made for march 31st but it got cancelled, something to do with another band was offerd the slot. Can't understand that but it's not all bad they are gonna play in hundingdon later in 07 so I suppose the landlord at mkt inn has peed on his on matches

Owner couldn't be bothered. Nobody around for check-in. Ultimate insult was to be accused of sneaking off without paying just for putting a bag into the car prior to leaving. Do not stay here unless you like to be insulted.

This pub in the last year or so has really done well in all aspects thanks to the new landloard/landlady who have worked really hard. The beer is good and the live music on a weekend is of a high standard and enjoyable to watch and listen to. If you want a friendly night out then look no further.
