This is my local pub. Now Iíve discovered that it has been over taken by new management. Me and my friends was very keen to try it out. As we discovered that the place has been refurbished into an Indian bar/restaurant.

We're very delighted with the warm friendly staff and hospitality, along with the great customer service and very tasty food.

I would like to personally thank you all at Royal Oak Tandoori on behalf of me and all my friends.

I would highly recommend it to everyone.. : )

I have just spoken to the Bateman family who are very good friends of mine, whos Dad was a best mate of my dads.

They are holding a reception on 7th March 2012 at The Merry Maidens approx 2.30 pm.

I would personally like to buy all the Bateman family Husbands, wifes and children (Of age) a drink.
If you could email me back and I can make funds available to you.

 Never Again
After an Hours wait for three meals we had had enough of being ignored as we had, after 30 mins enqiured as to how much longer our food would be and were told 5 to 10 mins. When we decided enough was enough the young girl was still able to go into the kitchen and cancel our order without any problems. Very disappointed.

Saddened from reading

Went into the Brewery Tap on 4th Oct to see The High Waisters - Under New Management - No Bar staff, pub looked dirty- toilets stunk- people leaving as they were struggling to be served. 3 door staff, it's a pity he did not put more effort into having more/efficient bar staff.

 true British hospitality
this weekend we invited some guests from the US to eat with us at our regular Fri night meal at the Royal Oak. Wayne the landlord outdid his usual funny and caring approach to all that eat there and spoilt out guests rotten. They talked about nothing else all weekend and were amazed by the hospitality and quality of the food and service. WE have enjoyed The Royal Oak for years and years ... try it, you'll be hooked

Big Steve's spot on. I was in there a week or two ago - hasn't changed. Still a great pub. Hurrah!

Captain
 Sort yours
There are only 3 reasons my friends and I go here: it's dirt cheap, it's near the office and for a town centre pub they have a decent sized beer patio (not garden - a few straggly weeds don't make that carpark a garden) to sit out in during the summer.

That said, the service is appalling. Once I walked out of here having waited for 30 (counted 'em) minutes to be served, with latecomers being served all around me. (Admittedly it was my fault for being stubborn, I should have punched the student barman serving all his mates and walked out.) That's not an isolated incident - that's their standard operating procedure.

The food is even worse. Yes, it's cheap, but my God. A year, well, even 6 months ago, the food was average pub stodge. Now I wouldn't feed it to pigs. I've eaten there with friends three times in recent weeks and ALL the meals, without exception, have been disgusting. (Again, I wonder now why I went back after the first time.)

 Beer/Adults
No, it isn't remotely child friendly. Bloody marvellous!!! No kids, no food and no mobiles either. Yeah, the toilets are a disgrace and some of the staff have woeful taste in music, BUT! the beer's wonderful, the layout's great and the staff are all friendly and a good laugh. This place can't be beaten.

 -
Great food and lovely garden! We also found staff and owners to be perfectly friendly.
Just one thing spoilt it for me - and it was no fault of the pub. Three times we ate there and three times the lovely food and lovely garden surroundings were spoilt by having to overhear loud mouthed people talking about foul things with foul language.

 Wonderful
Was told by a work colleague of its reputation as a great eating establishment so took my family and foreign guests for a weekend evening meal. The place was alive and busy and not only was the food we had superb and well presented but the landlord continually came round to check on our enjoyment and even had time to chat to our guests ... a great evening ... it really was

 Food/Children
This pub does not do bar food and certainly does not welcome children! In fact there is a notice in the window claiming that 'children will be considered lunch offerings' so perhaps that is where the confusion arose.
Whilst on the subject of this pub it doesn't even offer a ladies toilet at the moment, everyone has to use the very dirty and smelly gents

Staff attitude leaves a lot to be desired !
Used to be my local but the Manager has a real attitude problem and I would suggest this is one to be avoided - my wife and I were forecfully evicted one Friday lunchtime for reasons that still remain a mystery (something to do with sitting in an area that was apparently closed).

Shame - used to be a nice little boozer but wont be back.
