 Looking for Sheila
Hi all! I used to go to this pub all the time and I loved the indoor play area they used to have when I was a kid. I am actually looking for Sheila who used to own The Barn Owl quite a few years ago. We used to be really close and I would love to get back in contact with her. If you have a surname that would be great!!

 Painters Arms, Luton
I did most of my drinking here when I was a youngster & Jessie Hannel was the owner. I wrote about this pub in my book English Cowboy. I met a guy in Palm Springs this week who had lived in Luton & we had quite a chat about the old days.

 Frog & Rhubarb
For a warm and friendly welcome, pop in and join us for a drink at our country pub with quality dining. We have a wide selection of beers and wines from around the globe. The bar area has a light and airy feel without losing the great atmosphere and intimacy of a more traditional pub. Prop up the bar, tuck yourself away in a corner or take a seat in the courtyard garden, the choice is yours.

Our dining area has large tables and comfy leather chairs with a terrific colour scheme and simple pictures. Food is served all day, every day and our constantly changing menu focuses on quality and choice. We have great range of modern dishes to tantalise your taste buds or classic pub meals for when only a good hearty meal will satisfy your hunger. We also offer a wide range of traditional and more unusual Sandwiches and amazing Burgers

The Frog & Rhubarb is the ideal venue in a convenient location, catering for guests on both business and pleasure. Meetings, functions and parties can all be accommodated, professionally and in style.

 Great food!
We have been in the UK for 4 years now, and this is the best pub food we have had by far.

Granted, we need to return a few times and make sure it is consistently good, which seems to be the downfall of many borderline good pubs, but we were very impressed with our first visit.

Mrs C
This is a family friendly pub/carvery, there were none of the problems described earlier on this page, although I have only visited during the day for the food. (The carvery is excellent, (weds nights and sat sun all day) but the other food is the usual ready-meal type stuff, frozen chips, however it is value for money, and the deserts (although microwaved) were actually rather nice.

I also went to The Fox and had a club sandwich priced at £9.95. My first reaction was that it seemed rather pricey but when it arrived at the table I could see why. There was a whole chicken breast in this huge sandwich amongst the usual trimmings a club offers surrounded by mounds of home made chips. It was amazing. The only problem was there wasn't enough room left in my stomach to finish it!!! Your previous critic must have an exceptionally large appetite!!! My other friends equally had delicious food (in large quantities) I will definitly be going back and recommend others do.

 Very expensive
I happened upon The Fox at Darley hall, me and my partner had something to eat. I paid £9.95 for a club sandwhich and expected something deliscious for the price. However i was given normally sliced shop bought bread and there was only a tiny amount of chicken. I left feeling hungry, not only was my stomach feeling empty but my pockets were to. I was extremley disapointed with it all!

the best pub in luton for 1950's rock'n'roll, rockabilly live bands. It's monthly meetings [every third saturday of the month] are just brilliant.

Good all round traditional pub, late licence, live music, DJ's. Disagree totally with last comment - range of ages ..... oldies and young'uns all having a great time.

 all style no substance
Had dinner in there last week, Beef Stifado bland and tasteless, Steak (asked for rare) was well done and tough as old boots and Lamb was also tough - not impressive and won't be repeating the experience anytime soon

 5 Star
I have just read your write up on the barn owl in luton, you will be pleased to know that the pub has just been done up and looks lovely. It is now a resturant / carvery and the food was 5 star. There is no longer any underage as they operate a strict over 21 policy. being in my 30's I enjoyed going to a pub that is friendly and welcoming and they also offer great discounts if you eat before 6:30. will def be going back again.

The comments before mine are all from last year, I go to The Inkerman nearly every week with my friends and it's great. Everyone loves it there. The bar staff are especially freindly as are the punters. It has a good crowd on a Friday and Saturday. It's the perfect pub, good music, attitude free, good crowd..couldn't ask for more.

 Friendly pun
I went to the railway tavern when I was delayed on the trains and had to send a hour in luton. The place is small and cosy with a good beer garden. I ended up staying for 5 hours, a realy friendly place.

 Lutons first non-smoking pub
The Wyvern is now Luton's first non-smoking venue and looks a lot better after its recent refurbishment. Good food and beer with a friendly family environment.

 All-new Wyvern...
I popped by the Wyvern for the first time since it's been refurbished last night.

It's no longer the mahogany chairs and tables with fabric on the wall type of pub that it used to be - these have been replaced by soft seating, with candles on the table and hot food served all day.

The bar staff are friendly, the lager's cold, and the best bit is that it's non-smoking!

(There's a picture of the tumbledown Wyvern here: http://www.mus-ic.co.uk/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=ourlocalvicinity&id=the_wyvern_2 )

typical local with a bit more
Definately a one to pop in to on a Frifday Or Saturday night. Strangely described as a rock music pub in a search i did on the web recently......(must be an old site) It is not. I am sure Steve the landlord would love it to be but with such a wide range of clientelle he caters for all tastes with a variety of live entertainment. There are some local characters like most places but is friendly and the staff always look after you. It is a Green king/hungry horse but the restaurant is nicely seperate from the bar allthough there is a bar area to wait for your table inside. There are a few pool tables lots of screens and the normal array of machines and the normal hungry horse welcome for children.

 charles wells do it again
charles wells do it again with a pub that tries to get away from the pub atmosphere. Allthough this was not an old pub that has been gutted and ruined as charles well seem to be making a habit of recently they have not made an effort to create a good atmosphere and have a lack of comfortable chairs. This i can only think is designed for the diners as the pub seems to be an expensive restaurant these days. The atmosphere can only be better with a couple of groups of locals making the pub a little more warm and friendly. I know this pub well from previous years and over the last few they have had more landlords and temps than can be imagined with always, unbelievably so, unfriendly staff. The price of a pint is high as seems to be most estate pubs in the wells domain. The local green king pub is at least 30p cheaper. They have a strange dress code which the staff enforce when they feel like it and i had to take headgear off in the day before i was served . In The Day! I was invited to a meeting with wells and locals on a big PR meeting. We were fed and watered but had none of our wants adhered to however reasonable they were. Yes they did put the prices up again probably to pay for our beer. All in all a thoroughly bad experience which i will no longer partake in. All in all a so called real ale company looking after their pockets before the traditional needs of the consumer.
