 Warm welcome
We called in on Friday night and the was a lively buzz and we received a warm welcome from staff and customers alike. There was a Beatles tribute band on later that night but we had to go before they started.

The Hanover is now ran by Brian Dickinson (Dicko) he as been round the area for about 40 years and is well known round the area, he does a lot of events from wedding, birthdays, wakes, they also have karaokes, reggae nights, race nights for charity and live singers, the pub is a very friendly pub and would recommend to any people, family friendly as well.

 worst food EVER..
Went to the Sherwood on Motherís day with the family and thought the bar and restaurant was nice decorated and had quite a family friendly feel. However, we ordered the Sunday roast only to find when it arrived that not only did it look unappetising that it was virtually inedible. The so called roasted vegetables were completely raw. My sister brought this to the attention of the waitress that in fairness enquired what could be done in the kitchen, she quickly returned to say that all the veg was the same and nothing could be done, at this point the manageress approached the table and the waitress informed the manageress that most of the people in the restaurant had been complaining about the veg, (so it was good to know it wasnít just us being fussy) however the manageress was very rude and unprofessional, she said that nothing could be done and that the veg was cooked to ďal dente ď as if we hadnít heard of this before. My Mum responded by saying that she cooks her veg to ďal denteĒ texture but this was raw. Needless to say she went off in a strop and was quite unpleasant no effort was made to rectify the problem, no offer to change the food for an alternative, or to be reimbursed /or a complementary drink ect. I since heard from a friend that he had a similar experience just last week and vowed never to return. We would definitely not go back itís not especially cheap, so why expect crappy inedible food and shitty serviceÖ I would recommend avoiding.

 Trans Pennine Trail, stop off.
I'd like to thank Maureen for hosing us down in the garden before she would allow us into her excellent hotel. This is not a service that you get at every hotel you stop at when your cycling along the Trans Pennine Trail.

The best accommodation run by some on the nicest people. We had excellent food in a pub with a really nice atmosphere. Maureen and her daughter Vanda were great company and great hosts. Staying here really made our trip most memorable and enjoyable. I would certainly stay here again, if I'm ever in that part of the country.

The Doc
 a sweaty student pub
Went in here a couple of times as a student in Sheffield. Noisy, overpriced (if you dont have that yellow card), very poor barstaff - agree with the other user who says they seem to serve their friends first. Expect a 10 minute wait for a drink on a friday/saturday. Toilets are a bit rancid, but then again thats the students' fault who dont care about anything that's not theirs. Bar floor is sticky.

 Local View
It's great to have a proper local round the corner where people from all walks of life and of different ages can mingle, talk, laugh, read, eat, watch football, attempt quizzes and generally relax. Oh I almost forgot we can drink too. The Tetleys is usually spot on. One problem with The Banner though - the prowling presence of Leeds Mick - a modern day Charlie Peace who deserves a lifetime ban for his rudeness to nice customers like me.

Saturday, March 4, 2006Rating: rosettes

If you haven't got a photo driving licence, a portman group card or a pasport the staff were right to throw you out. Don't blame them, blame the police for giving out £80 on the spot fines to barstaff and making them all super paranoid. Cav is best pub on West st by far and thats why its always the busiest. Does exactly what it says on the tin.

Above person is talking about another pub
Just wanted to say the comment before mine must be about another bar as the Cavendush can naver be desribed as relaxing. It is astudent bar which is normally rammed and very loud with and - never relaxing. The florr and all tables are always sticky and the staff are usually talking amonst themselves or serving mates and taking forever.

 Utter embarressment
I am 18 years old, my friends and I all went for a meal and the 'Cavendish' had been suggested by a friend. When we got there we were treated appallingly and when we supplied the ID we had been asked to show (proving age with a photo) we were told to leave despite none of us ordering anything alcoholic!
Rest assured that we shall not be suggesting the Cavendish to friends, relatives or other!

 Quite special
Being of relative income and also a new-comer to this fair city, I found it hard finding a pub that suited my needs. For what I needed was good food and drink at good prices. And once I stepped through the door I got this and a heck of a lot more. It may be dark and I may be young enough to be the regulars great-great grandson but that means nothing once you sit down and ingratitae yourself in the warmth of a Yorkshire conversation. But only fool of the highest order would go all the way out to the edge of Wadsley, sit down for a few cheap drinks and leave without trying the food. Words once again fail me. For little over £3, the diner is presented with a meat and potato pie, chips, veg and gravy that would make Henry VIII's eyes water. And the portion size is only matched by the taste. Heavenly. My good friend sampled another dish on the menu which I don't recollect becasue I was so enamoured with my own dish but he joins me in declaring it the best pub food ever. Indeed the gravy seems to shimmer that little bit more thanks to the welcoming nature of the family that run it who ceaselessly amaze me by how perky they always are. But then I would be if I got to spend every day in a place so wonderful. Please, please go to this pub. You'll be smiling for days afterwards probably because you'll still be in there having a jolly good time.

 See below
A once really great pub and meeting place, now decidely seedy, Saturday night no choice of draught beer or lager- bottles only, dirty glasses, bar staff offered customer paper towel to wipe off lipstick! Bar area littered with dirty glasses, bar and floor sticky Door staff very rude, offensive and hurling abuse to prospective customers. As a regular lunchtime diner at this establishment, (along with a large number of ladies from a central law office) the evening shift leaves a lot to be desired. Will not be dining or drinking there again.

 Regular place to drink
Ostentatious it is not. The Three Tuns is one of those pubs that you can pop in, relax, and have a bar snack and a couple of pints. Itís been going for as long as I can remember, and is popular with the after work set from the local banking and business community. Serves a good pint.
