Sunday 14 Sepember 2008 The new landlords of the Danny and his wife Kelly made us feel very welcome. Highly recommend the food (a lot of which is made by Danny who clearly takes pride in flavour, presentation and ensuring everyone has a good time) and location of the beautiful picturesqe Matfen village complete with village shop, village hall and of course, the infamous Matfen hall. Take a camera for pictures! Met really great local people who were friendly and welcoming. Sincere thanks to Julie and Peter for the tip-off about the pub! Will definately be going back. Cannot rate Danny, Kelly, other barstaff or the local people to Matfen highly enough.

I dont know if the previous person was drunk, when he went to the Windsor, or if he was just in a very good mood. The reason I say this is because this is probably the worst pub in the world, and yes they do sell Carlsberg. Though the place has had a little bit of a face lift recently, it hardly touched the surface of what needs to be done. The staff are sullen, they serve short measures they think it is funny to ask if you want extra cold beer, then serve it to you in a glass that has just come out of the washer and is red hot. Give this one a big miss.

i expected alot from this bar but unfortunatly it didnt live up to its expectations, the interior was nice but unfortunatly too old fashioned for the likes of newcastles busy quayside.the staff seemed fun loving, but i agree with George that they should talk to the customer more than each other,but i would go back again but it wouldnt be my first choice,i feel it could be improved a great deal more.

The bar isnt that good, as its too old fashilned and to have 3 bars in such a small bar is a waste of space as there isnt a great space for customers. Staff seemed to enjoy their jobs but didnt give the customer satisafaction that is expected as they talked to much to each other then the customers, the toilets are kept clean, but overall i was very disappointed with the Quilted Camel and dont think il be venturing back here so quickly.

I just love this bar. Its by far the best place in Newcastle. Its a design icon in my opinion and having been newly refurbished, looks sexy and cool with a lounge feel.

Collingwood Arms Laura Smith Newcastle upon Tyne A friendly refreshing taste of the past.
The pub is a quiet local pub attracting students and locals. It has a selection of up to 8 real ales normally including Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Theakstons Best Bitter and often Deuchars IPA. There is a good selection of Lager including Fosters, Becks Kronenburg and Kronenburg Blanc. Guiness and Woodpecker are also available. There is also a massive selection of wines including a selection of Red, White, Rose and Champagne. The food here is really reasonable and the pub serves the best burgers I've ever had. The staff are really friendly and well natured, even though on occasion the landlord can be less welcoming. One of my favourite places to relax.

Bar Oz Andy Newcastle upon Tyne Australian theme bar full of students.
This pub is a good place to watch international rugby matches and can be heaving when England play, with a good atmosphere. Mostely though it is full of students due to its location. The food is reasonable but nothing special, the staff are friendly and the bar is generally clean and comfortable. The stools are quite annoying though as there's no cross bar to rest your foot on!

Beehive Andy Newcastle upon Tyne Old mans pub on the Bigg Market.
The Bee Hive is a haven for old men in the sea of stag and hen parties out in the Bigg Market but don't let that put you off. It has a reputation of being a bit on the rough side but I've had many a great night in here with no troubles what so ever. Dung beatles have been known to refuse to enter the mens toilets due to the smell but I think that only adds to the character of the place! It truely is a haven for those of us who are looking for a real pub.

Loved going to this pubs for last couple of years now, especially summer up on the open air roof patio !!! Good for sports too (2 big screens). DJ room palyin all kinds, mainly D&B, beats etc....Plenty of friendly staff (barmaids always hot !!). Best priced trebles too ! Hidden away behind Central Station (near the call centre's), give it a try. Tell them Ian from Jesmond sent you !!!
