 Wharf at bugbrooke
I went it to the above pub on Saturday 7 October 2017 I and many more was not happy on the price of the food and drinks to have to put up with children not seating with there careers or parents proberlyand playing in the pub people do not come to this venue for that. I sas spoke to by a gentleman who said my dogs behaved better than the children. Inmy opinion I do think the management should have done something about it .

Wednesday nights is ladies night and usually these evenings are busy.... the staff cope well with the demands.... sometimes there is the lack of communication between the kitchen and the waitress/ waiter, when a particular food is no longer available. When the food arrives it is tasty and enjoyable

I highly Recommend this Pub to any one wanting the London Style Pub Experience but With food that cn only be compared to a ichelin starred restaurant., ( Fresh, Local Sourced produce Cared for and prepared with maximum effort).

A Credit to the town !

 Good food. Poor service
The food is generic, but was good, if not a little over priced. But the service was poor. We had to wait a long time for someone to take our order. The food did take awhile to arrive but it was busy. But after our meal we gave up waiting for someone to bring the bill so went to the bar to pay. We did complain, but while the server did apologies they were less than interested. I would be wary to recommend it, and say only go when it's not busy.

Well. Where do i start? First off, the barman offered us no greeting as we stood waiting at the bar. The waitress then ignored us for a full twenty minutes, taking orders in the meantime from people who'd entered the pub after us till, fed up with waiting, we approached her to place our food order. Three sandwiches were asked for. That's all.Quite an easy order i'd have thought. One was wrong.Totally.One arrived at the table having been made with 2 slices of mouldy bread. How did it get to the table unnoticed? Not one word of apology was offered, either at the time or while paying the bill. Does that not bother them? Serving mouldy sandwiches to paying customers? Apparently not.We found all three members of waiting staff to be inattentive, petulant and unfriendly to the point of rude. Will we revisit? Why on Earth would we want to?

My family & I had the unpleasant experience of eating at the Cromwell last Sunday, it was a beautiful sunny day & what should have been a lovely family lunch turned into a very stressful experience!! The meal took ages to be served although the restaurant wasn't particularly busy & when the meals did finally arrive there were problems, my daughters fishcakes were so miniscule we thought she'd been served a starter portion by mistake (we were told the portion size was reflected in the price of 7.95!) & my salmon with nicoise salad turned out to be a very small piece of salmon on top of approx 3 new potatoes halved, 1 cherry tomato halved & 4 black olives (apparently they had run out of green beans & I'd been given extra other veg instead!) all at a cost of 12. I was so incensed by the service, quality of food & portions that I refused to pay for those meals, all in all a disaster of a lunch & I won't be returning!!!!!

My family and I have had our Christmas Day lunch there for the past two years - 2008/9 - and it was absolutely fabulous! When I booked it I was concerned that we may be rushed into starting and finishing our meals to make way for the following bookings, but the staff assured us that would not be the case and they were true to their word. We all sat around the log fire for a couple of drinks and then were shown to our table on time. The food perfect, the service first class and we intend to book again this year. Roll on Christmas 2010, I say!

how many hours do you have to wait?
3 hrs in all. OK we hadn't booked but if you can't cope why should we have to suffer. The girls did there best front of house but the Manager when we complained was arrogant and dismissive. He did give us a btl of wine and beer on the house + my dish. hubby and I are local and were hoping to impress our NZ visitors. We do not recommend this venue . A pity really as the views are superb. Hope the Manager gets this message.

 Updated but not as good
We visited the Brit on 21st August for a leaving lunch, newly redecorated and now fully waitress service our expectations were raised as we walked in the door. Unfortunately that was the only time this happened. We were advised that someone would be over to take our drinks order shortly, an age later the waitress arrived took our drink and food order. The drinks arrived fairly promptly, the food, well after reminding the staff that we were still there after half an hour and waiting for another age, our food started to arrive, almost 10 minutes passed before all 7 people were served. All I can say is that the table looked very beige, we had a good selection of dishes, tie chicken salad, ham and egg, fish and chips, scampi etc. Our manager had to leave most of his as he had an appointment to go to, we thought that 1 hours for lunch should be enough. Everyone thought that the food was very bland, over cooked and in most cases almost cold. The only up side was the discount we got after complaining.

Long wait for service, one meal (salad) arrrived after three requests to bring it and when everyone else had finished their meal. Ratherwondered if people at table near us left without paying because of wait and others left after ordering - too fed up to wait.
One waitress very brusque. Much nicer pubs in same chain elsewhere , we will 'pass that way but once'

This is my third visit - food, service and value for money exceptional. The taste and presentation of the food was oustanding and even more so at these prices. Will definitely be visiting again within the next few weeks.
Would also like to hold my 50th Birthday lunch on Sunday 19 December 2010 (!) for close family and friends here. Could somebody please contact me even at this early stage to have a chat about the arrangements.

first visit - long wait at the bar - then house wine unavailable -food was deliciious, but we had to wait a long time between courses and they had run out of eggs so two out of the five dishes on the set menu were unavailable! I have been a waitress myself and the girls could do with a few lessons.
The steaks need to be improved big time as they arer always very chewy and full of fat.
If they could sort these issues out it would be a great pub.

 Dinner at the Swan
On Saturday 20th December 6 of us dined at the Swan. Having had some mediocre experiences in other local pubs and restuarants we were open minded on how the evening would go.
The initial greeting from the staff was very warm and welcoming.
The food was prepared and served to the highest standards and every one in our party commented on the wonderful mix of flavours. The starter of squid and the main course of venison was absolutely delicious. The staff in the dining room were attentive and helpfull and we didn't feel rushed to vacate our table for a second sitting as is the case in some establishments.
Highly recommended we will definitely be visiting again very soon.

Comment:
very poor food, no complaints procedure. the staff were friendly but didnt have a clue how to deal with issues raised. when asked for the manager, was told she was unavailable. very poor!!!! visited with family, queue of customers waiting to get in to see the chef, poor lad who was supposed to be in charge was so wet behind the ears was just continuously refunding. the manageress liz cole i believe, remained in her flat upstairs so i was told by a staff member, not willing to come and deal with the major problems in her establishment. leaving her employee's to fend off a very angry crowd. i will not return, i will let everyone i knw aware of this badly run place!

 fantastic
i went for a quick lunch with a friend earlier in the week and was delighted by both the service and food. Between myself and a friend we sampled the fish and chips and the daily special- beef stew. Both were fantastic, simple pub meals with an exotic twist to match the gastro pub stylings. the only problem was the shouting audible to the restaurant from the kitchen. will recommend to friends.

Warm, welcoming, professionally run. Tastefully refurbished, tasty food. A cut above the rest.
Ideally located for theatres or a night in town.
Smoke free inside but offers the best of facilities to those of us still addicted.
I will miss this pub, but will phone Sue to try find an alternative.

Gave up on New Years Eve, couldn't get served. Went elswhere for booze. Food generally OK, Steaks vary though. Manager needs a few lessons on staff management. ie: employ more. Won't go back in a hurry. Are the rest of Sizzlers like this place????

As long as you don't mind waiting 20 minutes to get served for a pint and die of starvation waiting for your food, you should enjoy this place. Steaks can be tough as old boots but generallly not bad. Pity brewery doesn't allow manager to employ more staff. Perhaps profits aren't high enough.

from being a regular customer and enjoying evening meals @ the Britannia, since its expansion the menu has dwindled from home cooked specials to run of the mill meals. Last week as there were no specials on offer I was treated to a bland chiken dish that was smothered with a sauce and warmed up veg. needless to say i will not be going there again.

 Awful
The only enjoyable thing about my meal was the wine. After waiting an hour and a half from ordering to being served my 'well done' steak that I ordered turned out to be not only cold but still bloody on the inside. On the positive side the FIVE chips and single mushroom it came with were quite warm. All at the bargain price of 16 - what an appalling rip-off. If you like being fleeced then I highly recommend it.

Oh dear, it cannot always be this bad.
Having waited one and a half hours for your main course you do not expect your partridge to be still almost capable of flight ! Just five chips to go with a fairly small steak does seem a bit mean.
Service slow, food cold and undercooked, mean portions.
Beer and wine good though.

 Extremely Impressed
With a 2nd baby due on Christmas Day, we took the opportunity to go for a last supper before the onslaught. Recommended by friends and family, The Swan lived up to all my expectations. The service was excellent and the food impressive. It was however a bit on the pricey side with our bill coming to 97 inc 1 bottle of wine and tip. I've eaten in better places and spent a fair bit less. Apart from the price, if I had to find something to moan about then it would be the simple fact that big white plates that sit directly on a very smooth table tend to slide around a fair bit! I had a rare sirloin and my wife had a lovely big chunk of slow roasted belly pork. We didn't actually chip the plates but it was a close thing. We know a fair few people who have been here but have heard of only one poor experience had by a couple on a Saturday. It would seem from reading the other comments that mid-week is perhaps the best time to be impressed by this place.

 Avoid at all costs
Have been here several times and been treated with derision by the regulars. Most lately, we arrived at this pub to be greeted with the barmaid shouting I said, we're closed in an aggressive manner, with other punters joining in with verbal abuse. To be avoided at all costs.

Visited the Swan on Sunday the 6th August having read mixed reports about both the food and service. Needn't have worried.  Fantastic evening!
Visited the Swan on Saturday 29th having been recommended by a friend. I couldnt praise the establishment highly enough, the menu was exciting with plenty of choice, the wine list was superb and the staff seemed to be able to help in any decision that we had to make!! When the food arrived, (Salmon fillet with a kumquat and corriander chutney and the Cannon of Lamb) The manager despite obviously being busy even came to to check how things were, Very pleasing as some places you dont get that personnal touch. I would reccomend the swan to anyone.

 Live Music
Dear Sir or Madam

My Name is Tim Sansom. I am a Northampton based singer songwriter - poet. I'm writing to express availability in performing live music during the lunchtimes or and evenings of your choice. I fully appreciate that it is as often as not likely that a pub's clientele will want to hear familiar songs and I can perform well known songs through the decades of popular music ie 50s to present time but especially the 60s and 70s. Rather than tell you what specific songs I play I am happy to ask and get an idea of what would most suit you. Similarly you may want music unplugged or amplified, neither are a problem but sometimes music played too loud is intrusive to people in their local. You may even be a pub that welcomes original material, that would be a pleasure and I could alternate it with cover versions or even feature poems, the choice is yours. I ask 70 pounds per session ( Approx 3 hours ) and am more than happy to discuss any further details with you should this arouse your interest. Please don't hesitate ( And even at short notice as I have no transport problems ) to contact me on timsansom2003@yahoo.co.uk Tel 01604457776 mob 07811943339

 Disappointing
Booked table for 4 for Sunday Lunch. Decor very stylish and service OK. Chicken salad starter hardly had any chicken, goat's cheese OK. After a very long wait we were told there was a crisis in the kitchen. When the food eventually arrived the pasta dish was cold, the roasts had one slice of meat, burnt potatoes and a few scaps of vegetables. Very small portions on very large plates and overpriced. We gave up on desert. I doubt we will return.

Nice decor, good service, appalling food
Mettin place for Sunday lunch - a party of six including one from the USA - having bee recommended to it.

Starters. Three different ones sampled - soup ok, chicken salad - only beat the trades description act by the presence of one piece of chicken on it. Mushrooms OK. Very small portions on very large plates - disappointing. however the main course was worse - roasts appalling undercooked. Certainly some of the vegetables were reheated. Risotto - appalling tasteless. Sweets - we gave up by then. only two of the party tried them. I would not go back in this place if it was the only one left in Northamptonshire.
We were no the only ones who had problems - at leasr three other groups returned meals.

Extraordinarily poor value.

we visited the swan for sunday lunch and were fairly disappointed with the service provided, the lady was snooty when we asked for a table and the vegetables accompanying the meal were raw. the meat, however, was delicious and i would be happy to go back on a weekday as the pub iself is beautiful

 Couldn't find a nicer place
I came here from a small village and was amazed to find a friendly pub without all the cramped smokey atmosphere I have come to expect of town pubs. The people there and the staff are so friendly and I am soon to be moving to Northampton and I have already chosen this pub to be my local as i could not think of a nicer place to have a relaxing drink.

A great village pub and restuarant
This pub is really good, it is out of the hussle and bussle from northampton town center and in the quiet village of Weston Favell. The pub itself is excellent very clean and tidy, and offers lots of beer and has a wide selection of traditional ales. The pub also has a small restuarant joined to it, which sells a wide range of foods from Sumi Bi Yaki king prawns to the good old sirloin. The food itself is good and reasonably priced, but if you want to go even cheaper the pub offers bar meals which are as equally tasty.

 Best pub in Northamptonshire.
This pub has everything that an old english pub should have. Wide choice of well-kept beer, low ceilings, warm, light, long vistas and everywhere the sight, feel and ambience of wood. Good food served all-day long. This pub cannot be faulted.

Yet another big investment by McManus without a clue how to run such an establishment, bad service bad food, Lets just hope they can find another brewery to con and buy the pub, and then its true value can be achieved.

Visiting from Bahrain with my wife today, we stopped at the Swan for lunch after drivng from London. There was no 'meet and greet', not even an acknowledgment that we were waiting to be seated. If the staff (3) behind the counter were busy then a simple 'be with you in a moment' would have sufficed, deciding to settle for a drink at the Bar while we were waiting, again we were ignored so we left. Such a shame considering the obvious substantial investment in decor and surroundings but then any hospitality business the end result is only as good as it's management and staff.

 Really Good
We went there for a meal to celebrate our friends engagement. Although I had booked a table the managers had changed shift and the new manager did not know we were coming. Luckily they were able to put us in as we had arrived early. The food was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The only downside was that is was really busy and so getting drinks at the bar took a little while

 Let down by the food
My wife and I recently visited the Swan mid week as we had been tempted by the style of the refit and the enticing menu. Unfortunately we left with our expectations dashed. We both felt that the food has a long way to go before it reaches the standard we expected.

 Eating out at The Swan
Visited The Swan a week ago at the start of June. Clean and stylish refit but both my wife and I were appalled by the quality of the food. Such a shame, given the expectations customers now have on entry. The food was poorly cooked and quite expensive.

 Service Level
Hello,

Myself and three freinds went to the Brittainia on Sunday for a few beers and a bite to eat in the sun. We thought the service level gievn by what appeared to be the manager was totally out of order, when asked for the menu she just pointed at a table and said thats all we do when asked if there was a special board you would have thought this was a trick question? she said in a very rude manner Thats all we do on Sundays The food then took 55mins to be bought to the table and when we asked why it had taken so long the waitress said Our chefs have to have breaks when its hot It wouls have been nice if we had of been told? not asking to much. Not people to moan we just carried on and to be fair the food was O.k. A word to the owner if you are out there is to monitor your staff a little closer as they could lose you good trade.

Regards

Marcus

 poor food
Visited the Swan for the first time Sat 22nd Jan 2005. Having eaten in hundreds of good restaurants as part of my job, I was generally delighted with the refurbishment to this rundown local+++ pub. Now a very trendy modern gastro pub. Unfortunately the food did not match the environment, very average with 4 out of 6 meals voted poor. You need to ensure you have the right calibre of chefs in the kitchen otherwise you are going to have wasted a lot of money!

 Excellent Food in Pleasant Surroundings
I remember the Swan as being a bit of a grubby pub, that I never really used to like, it was very dark inside, and in a poor state of repair. Happily all this changed with the refurbishment in late summer 2004. The Swan now is back to it's former glory with a well designed spacious interior, and an excellent menu, that serves high qulity yet reasonably priced food. It's great if you want something a bit more stylish on a Sunday, or any day for that matter, and I would say that it's more of a restaurant than a pub. The menu was good, with not too many dishes, but a good selection. The wine list too seemed excellent, although when I went I did not sample it! Service too was better than average, and it seemed the staff were all well trained. Overall and excellent venue for a pleasant afternoon or evening out.
