 Don't visit
We visited on a Friday night, there were a party of 4 in front of us. Took 1/2 hrs to serve drinks, no draught beer, bottle of wine not chilled. 2 ladies behind bar, although one disappeared with screaming child upstairs, alot of noise. Took 1 hr 5 mins to get starter. Choices on board not available, not updated. Too late in evening to go elsewhere.
Pub looked in need of furnishings and decoration, extremely sparse.
Chef long haired, smoker and unkempt. Avoid like the plague.
Only 8 people in total in pub all evening.

April 2010. Four of us visited. Pub was clean & smart, only two ladies to serve at bar and meals, so were rushed off their feet, but remained charming. No cider available to drink ! First diners of the evening, some meals were sold out ? Paid at bar for drinks but then they were added to our bill (Very Naughty !). Charged for original meals ordered which were sold out, had to point this out to have bill amended. They were unable to take credit cards, luckily we had cash with us ! Meals were very average, understand they have a new chef, he needs to rethink his portions and the menu choice. Will NOT be going back again, or recommending it to others.

 A real Somerset gem
Have been twice and will go back - food and service excellent. The menu is innovative whilst honouring the quality of the ingredients and the ethical sourcing makes the experience all the more pleasurable as you know you are supporting local farmers and fishermen. They fully deserve the Taste of the West Gold Award.

Great pub. Food is absolutely awesome and they have just won a gold at Taste of the West. Not surprising, such a lovely place with really nice staff. We had my fathers' 80th there and they couldn't have made us feel more special.

 Ohh change!
Yes there are new owners there, change can be quite refreshing. It is now a traditional pub which serves an ethical and organic menu. Move with the times and open your mind!

Since the Mandeville Arms has been taken over by 'The Lion' at Babcary, it has florished. The pub is now a smart and luxurious place to eat and drink with very competitive prices. The food is amazing, with four chefs now employed. The perfect place for a special occasion, i can't wait to go back.

At last ... a real pub the way it should be !
What a fantastic find. Remember when pubs served traditional pub food without the fancy 'twist' - bangers & mash, liver & onions, cod & chips, good quality food at a good price. A great welcome, a real log fire, a good pint, people who really cared about my visit not just my wallet. Go there - you will NOT be disappointed.

A great place to eat, drink or both!
This pub is in a league of its own, it can be whatever you want it to be. There are many different drinks to choose from and the menu offers an outstanding selection of mainly local produce. Friday and Saturday nights are the best times to come in, however Sunday lunch is the best i have had in any pub.
In all the pub holds a great atmosphere which is thanks to the new landlord Mike Collins and his wife Karen. I would recommend it for a special night out or just a quiet drink.

 A fantastic find !
Found the pub by accident, looking for accommodation for the night. Great to find a really traditional village pub. REAL pub food and home cooked too! The landlord made us feel so welcome. Best nights rest I have had in years ! Go there - it's great !

 Porter Blacks
I have been to Porter Blacks a few times when visiting friends in Yeovil and it never fails to disapoint. Porter Blacks is a brilliant night out. On Fridays and Saturday nights the place is buzzin, the bands are varied but enjoyed by all on Fridays and there is an up for it atmosphere on Saturday. The bar staff are friendly and very easy on the eye, an enjoyable pub to go to.
