 Pub closed
Unfortunately, the pub (which was my local hostelry) has been closed, the windows boarded up and the car park blocked off for a couple of months [as at August 2013]. This is a great shame as, previously, it had been a pleasant food and drinks pub. Sadly, it is a sign of the times.

Like the Willett Arms a lot
Visit fairly regularly and always enjoy visits. 91 year old mother-in-law in chair, can get in and out - there is a step, but she is not heavy. Large, well lit pub. Staff always accommodating too.

 Poor service again
This was our last attempt to to get a decent meal and service from this pub, waitress service slow and poor with the ordered items failing to turn up after a awful long wait. Food ordered was the same on some occasions and on each occasion turned up different. Today i had a sweet of crunchy caramel which had no crunch or caramel in it, upon telling the bar staff i was informed there was a new sweet chef in and he must have forgot the crunch !!
This place needs some direction with its staff and some sort of quality control on what comes out of the kitchen

 Friday Night Mayhem
Visited for the second time on Friday @ 7pm to meet up with friends for a meal. No bookings possible for tables under 10 people so waited 20 minutes. Staff working very hard but not enough of them so order taking slow, food service slow etc. Food is hit or miss, the first time it was ok for the money but this time it was poor. Fillet of Sea Bass consisted of 3 or 4 small tail end fillets swimming in a gloopy pink sauce (supposedly crayfish sauce), a few boiled potatoes in their skin and soggy tasteless carrots and peas. Fish and chips, more batter than fish. This establishment has the potential to be excellent with a bit more emphasis on customer service, perhaps a less extensive menu so as to concentrate on quality of food and please take bookings - it will free up the member of staff who has to take names at the bar, then try and find those people and seat them when a table is ready. And save the tables near the kiddies corner for those with kids so that they can keep an eye on them and the noise levels. The venue is tastefully refurbished, very spacious and with a garden too. Come on Marstons, show us that you can get it right from the top downwards .

 not impressed
I rang them up on the wednesday regaurding a table for saturday evening. was told 5pm to 5.30pm I would be promised a table, and was not aloud to book as there was only 6 of us, I did explain i was comeing from oxfordshire to see my mum and i did not want to be let down, I was told it would be ok.
on the saturday. went in at the above time and the place was packed.
I asked for a table for 6 and the land lady was very rude and said I would have to wait, I told her about the previous phone call and she said it was wrong to wait ,No appolige, then told we would have to wait a while as they had very few tables for 6. I asked why I could not book a table if that is the case, her reply was it had to be 10 or more. I went to the bar and waited 10 minutes and still had not been served or even acknowledged.
was very dissapointed and the landlady needs to learn some customer relation tips.

I visited at lunchtime today, the first time since its refurbishment. The place was very, very busy and there was a 25 minute wait for meals. I had only about 50 minutes and didn't have time to wait. I explained this and was immediately offered a sandwich of choice, which was prepared and brought to the table within 5 minutes. The service was excellent, the staff very friendly and I will go again and again. Thank you.

Go passed this pub quite often and decided to actually stop and have a meal one lunchtime. It was just after the xmas break and seemed fairly quiet. We had a dog with us and were very disppointed not to be allowed in, even to the bar area. Felt disappointed with the attitude so went to the Botany Bay just up the road and had a warm welcome, lovely lunch and the dog got a lot of fuss too!!

My husband son and I stopped at Worlds End on Sunday on the way back from Plymouth. I ordered a chicken roast dinner which I found very disappointing. The potatoes had obviously been reheated and were just warm, the same for the chicken portion. My son's fish and chip meal was not freshly cooked and had obviously been reheated. My husband did enjoy his meal of chicken and ham pie. On the whole we were very disappointed with our meals especially as we had paid nearly £30.

 Vastly Improved Now
Went last week for a reunion lunch with friends. They chose from the '2 meals for £10' option and I had something from the main menu. Even for £5 the meals were a good size. The service was really freindly and quick, and didn't taste like microwaved food as the steak and ale pie pastry/crust wasn't typically soggy as would happen from this type of warming. We all had a really nice experience, and it was superb value for money. The food tasted a lot better than some places I've been out before, and it's much better now it's the Thomas Hardy pub.

 Very Poor Service
went for late lunch at 4pm. Service was very slow and we had to wait 30mins for our starter. Every time the waiterress came to us it was Hellow just like a *Personal Banker*. Food was average and the supposed Hand cut chips were soggy. On eventual presentation of the bill I asked if they were short staffed today, only to be told NO!
Needless to say I didn't leave my normal generous tip, and won't re-visit.

 Wonderful meals
We where on a day out with our two dogs and it was lunch time. The Pub had a garden so we asked if the dogs would be welcome. The initial response was terse. they can't come in the pub! was the reply. um well, no but we thought perhaps the garden? we said... Only out the front!! the member of staff said.
That could have put us off, but we where tired and hungry after our busy morning, and we took a seat.
we ordered and where served by very friendly waitresses who said they loved dogs but must not touch due to hygiene. The meals where super! Great value for money.
Oh and crazy as it may seem they even had a doggie menu!! lol so what on earth was wrong with the first grumpy chap I am sure I will never know!
Any way... nice pub, good food... would go again!

Will never visit this pub again, ordered 3 meals, initially overcharged
Meals arrived within 5 minutes of ordering - Microwave?
All tasted horrendous.

I complained but they did not take any notice. People next to us stated that they complained the last time they were there, but thought they would give them another chance

Vegetarian moussaka only had two small pieces of aubergine and tasted bland.
Informed these meals are bought in and not made on the premises.

The gammon was very salty; the chips were cold; the fish was very dry and potatoes were soggy.

Mushrooms were swimming in oil.

Childrens play area has now gone, childs meal purchased today was disgusting, congealed cheddar cheese on a piece of ham and a pizza base, no mozzerella. Even my two year old wouldn't eat it. When I complained, they stated that I only could complain when the waitress came up to the table to see if food was ok. He had not even started it by that point, as he is only two. Really bad service

Beer good & staff freindly, but a 'roast beef sandwich' contained lumps of chewy stewing beef. Might have been unlucky and otherwise a pleasant venue

Find another pub not one of the better ones in Dor
Management should give staff training,I asked if dogs were allowed in the pub when I went for coffee, barmaid said yes, Went for a meal and drinks at a later date and dog was not allowed in. Not bothered if you dont alow dogs in but at least get your act together and train your staff properly on policy.Asked for a refund on drinks and letf, went to the blue raddle had a very good welcome and very good food.
The station was nearly empty in despertate need of decoration a mess.
Having said all this ,the sister pub to this one in Weymouth, The Admiral Hardy does take dogs, the food is very good and the pub has a very welcome attitude and is clean and well decorated.

 excellent pub
went for Saturday lunch, excellent food from a large menu (although I wouldn't take a veggie there - only one veggie main course). Very good value of money, good potions, and all three courses were well cooked and presented.

Very good service, lovely waitress and everybody helpful.

Garden was very nice, atmosphere great and overall would highyl recommend it.

 Very friendly,good food
Drove 45 miles to meet up with old friends, staff were friendly and really helped and understood my 6 yr old daughters coeliac condition and managed to produce a nice meal for her. 4 adults and 3 children well catered for and food was well presented at reasonable prices. What a lovely relaxed time we had. If you are thinking about eating here, stop thinking and book a table, you will not be dissapointed. Looking forward to going again soon. Thanks again to all the staff. 12 out of 10.

My family and I visited yesterday. It was very busy,we left our name so we could be called for a table and in five minutes we were sat choosing our food. We placed our order for four people at the food counter including starters. The starters arrived very prompt considering how busy it was, these were cleared and our main coures's arrived.
The food was wonderful it tasted and looked good.
The portions including the starters, were very generous.
How any one could say they were hungry after eating here i find astonishing.
Also when it is as busy,
common sense tells you (or it should ) that you may have to wait.
We arrived at 18.00 and had finished by 19.20,we were too full for pudding!
As we left there were still lots of people arriving.
The staff were very polite and friendly, considering they were so busy.. We look forward to our next visit

 Poor value for money
I live in the area and have been going (occassionally) to the Worlds end for the last 20 yrs. My last visit was last night and I was very dissapointed. The 'famous' Sussex Smokey fish dish was lacking in fish !!!! - I counted 5 very tiny cubes of fish and it was so over cooked that the 'creamy cheese sauce' had all but dried up - stay away from this one! Perhaps this is indicitive of them trying to 'cash in' on the holiday trade and make more profit. They should realise that it will drive away the locals as well. Won't be going back there !!!!

Good food served at a glacial pace
Encountered this pub on a drive from Devon to the ferry port at dover. Stopped to eat because it looked nice.

To summarize, good food, bit small portions tough. This is totally ruined by the incredibly slow waiting staff. Sitting in a 2/3 full restaurant area it took 20 minutes before someone took an order. 2 burgers, a steak and a tanglefoot pie (which was rather good)took more than half an hour to appear on the table. Clearing dishes and taking a pudding order only happened when I went to fetch one of the waitresses.

Change of landlord and chef has meant a change overrall - for the good! Although prices are a little more than they were, the food is much, much better while the beer is a good mixture of local ales (note NO WOODHOUSE/BADGER beers!). Great atmosphere with good mix of drinkers and eaters. Best pub in the locale by some way IMHO.

 Best Food in Dorset
This has got to be the most beautiful pub/restaurant with amazing viewings in the whole of Dorset. It is approx 15 minutes drive from the beaches at Bridport or Burton Bradstock.

The food is excellent and very reasonably priced, especially for its standard. There is a great selections of wines, beers and cider (it is on the Somerset border).

We have friends who live in the area and this is definately the best and most beautiful we've found. A 'must visit' if in the area. Great for all ages.

 Good food BUT !
My wife and I made a 1 st visiit on a Tuesday afternoon during the school hols , so there was plenty of kids and it was a little noisy ...nothing against children of course ! We found the tables in the non eating area far to close together and crampy and open for all to see and hear so not allowing any sort of privacy even in its smallest form .The food arrived in good time from ordering and well presented and hot BUT the portions to value were a no no . It was disapointing and we left still feeling hungry and little let down .Maybe it was a busier than normal day I dont know . Not hurrying back though :-(

 The Best !
We visited the Worlds End Inn at Blandford Forum yesterday Sunday 16th December for a family get together for a “Christmas Present Swap”. What an absolute pleasure it was. The Inn was warm and welcoming. The staff were the best The Food was first class and served hot and a leisurely pace as we did not to rush off and when we explained this to the staff it was not a problem.
We did take the time to speak to the Manager too and expressed our delight and made sure that we singled out our waitress who was so helpful without being over the top. Nothing was too much trouble.
People are always quick to complain so we really wanted you to know how thrilled we were with our visit. We will be back soon.

This is a pub soley for kids to play in as they have a large play area which they can go into for a couple of pounds while you eat in peace! Unfortunatley the toliets are disgusting beyond belief, there were nappies all over the floor as the bin had not been empted and the smell was overwelming, we complained and it was cleaned but it is still always the same, how a restaurant gets away with that i do not know! Food ok and staff very friendly otherwise.

Fantastic traditional country Inn. Log fires in the winter. Best food I have ever eaten in a pub. Superb, freindly and effecient staff. Award winning Landlord and Landlady. Same hands since Nov. 2002. Not to be missed if in this part of Dorset.
Added bonus: children only allowed outside, so peaceful dining!

A friend told us to visit. From the service point and the food they were right. A monumental improvement on the previous owner. very attentive staff and jovial host ( my children like him) BUT it has to be said the lack of welcoming chairs in the new bar area does not make you feel as if you would come in for a social drink with friends. 10 out of 10 apart from the bar

 23.07.06 Good Food & Atmosphere.
Just like to say I've read some of the comments and was a bit put off but my family and I decided to take a chance as I've heard so many good things about The World's End. In our party there were 9 of us so it was a bit of a wait to get a table big enough but we didn't mind as the weather was good. When we got to our table we ordered our food with no problems. The starters came and went and within 20 minutes our main course had arrived. Even though it was busy our order came out all together and nothing was missing. I have to say it was an absolute pleasure and I'm looking forward to going back again soon.

I have to say I'm so pleased I didn't take any notice of the comments made by, Paul Strictly Tourist.  Wonderful pub with wonderful people
Visited the Talbot Arms on a number of occasions during my recent visit to Benville and couldn't fault it at all.  Scrubbed up well but...
Refurbished. Used to be a rough but friendly locals local. Ale doesn't change as often as it should but still a good pint. How about some Branscombe? Comfortable and my wife says she would go in there by herself.

Great Dj on a friday night that plays a lot of 80s classics. Plays the Baywatch tune!!! If only it could stay open later.

We are sorry to hear that another harmless good idea has been scuppered by the present government. Yet again pathetic bureaucracy gone mad.

We often frequent your premises and always enjoy a very good meal and will continue to do so.

 Untouched local
Hopefully one Bridport pub that is not due for makeover! Friendly bar with games room off. Unchanged since...? Good pint of Palmers and Taunton Cider too.

 Superb local
On a hill overlooking Lyme this pub is worth the walk! Live music, pub games and some superb real ales that are not native to these parts. Check out the barmaids too! Gorgeous!

 Sprawling pub for 18-25's
Situated close to Dorchester South station this pub has no charm or decent beer. Used to be served by now closed Eldridge Pope Brewery. Not worth the walk from the centre!

What a real pub should be!
Sawdust on the floor, beer brewed on the premises, darts, good chat from locals. This is the pub in W Dorset!

 Olde Worlde town centre tavern
Charming local that is the watering hole for students, beardy weirdies and 'locals'. Sadly the bar prices make you think you are in London! Unspoilt though. Worth a visit.

 Smart friendly local's local
Recently tidied up back street boozer offering pool, darts and table skittles. Three unusual real ales on offer plus three rough ciders. V friendly and comfortable. Thankfully no local beer!

Best in Swanage for Real Ale
Best pub in Swanage for Real Ale by a long way. The Landlord knows his beer, and looks after the ales properly. Nice straight glasses. Nice beer garden for the summer, and nooks and crannies for other times. Board games etc. Lovely pub.

food tastes as good as the pub looks!
You will not be disappointed with the size or value for money of the meals. Children are made to feel welcome with child size adult meals and if the weather is nice a secure play area. A very warm welcome and NO SMOKING in the pub!!!! Excellent food, drink and service.

Just another Brewers Fayre.. nothing special, but then again, still very nice - pleasant atmosphere, well layed out, nice staff and good food. If you're looking for something ordainary but quality, this is the place to go. If you're looking for something different, unique, or spectacular.. look elsewhere.

 A super Village Pub
Caroline & Justin have now settled in and have produced many improvements to the Pub. Great home cooking at reasonable prices. A new Beer management system for the Real Ales, means they are served to perfection.

 History of the pub
My g, g, g, grandfather was the publican here in 1901
Has anyone got a photo of it?
Was it called the Crown Inn in 1901?

Local Ale, friendly landlord and locals. Excellent place for a home cooked lunch followed by a walk up Tom Paines hill. Lively at weekends, frequent live music nights. Retains original pub feel, with skittle alley - Excellent time had by all

Its a nice pub, meals are good and its been done up nice.
But its also a great live music venue, they have gigs on Thursdays with bands you wouldnt ever expect to see in a place as small as Bridpprt.
Go there....
