 A tourist trap
Port Issac as everyone knows, is the filming location of the TV series Doc Martin. The pub is known as The Crab and Lobster in the show. I have never really seen the series, so I hadn't any expectations.
The interior is compact at ground floor level, but I believe there is more seating upstairs.
The pub has character, but in an understated way. As one would expect, there are a number of St Austall ales available, my partner had the Hicks which was fine. The Golden Lion has some of the best views of Port Issac harbour. We sat and admired the view, and were given a birds eye view of some feeding seagulls!

Called there lunchtime today beautifully restored, very cold today and advertised fire was not lit, cold inside kept coat on
I had two fried eggs on toast perfect, my friend had cod and chips, the batter was pale and uncooked this left the fish soggy, I eat a lot of fish it was horrible , not the beautiful white ,mostly grey, would not eat in there again, not convinced it was cod

Great local pub, friendly staff and landlord. Free entertainment on the weekend and wednesday nights. Bar snacks available all day, if you like pasties and a great variety of local beers and ciders. I found the pub by chance, while on holiday from Australia.

Quite possible the most rancid place on earth. Filthy and full of underage drinkers. The landlady allows people on the pub watch list to continue to drink in there. Avoid this place at all costs

Staying at the Tuckingmill hotel.
The place stunk to high heaven and the sheets were not clean and the breakfast was not fit to feed to a pig.

Will never being going back its under new management and most defiantly will not be going back.
One of the staff were very rude to a gentleman on the next table slamming down his food.
the portions have all been made smaller and prices have gone up , chips were anemic and raw in parts usually go there all the time but will never be going back tables are lower than the chairs came out with sore backs didn't have starter and left after our mains as we were so unhappy with the service and food

Seen it all .. yesterday afternoon two locals started an argument over who was first in the food que
started pushing each over eventually it calmed down and the bigger guy let the smaller one go first.
But when he took the last pasty the bigger guy pinched his pasty andcthen sparked him out and just walked out calm as you like. one rough pub one rough town one shit hole.

Had some fish and chips as did my wife butas it was a nice dat we decided to sit out side (big mistake) sadly she never got to taste her fish as a seagull came down and whipped the Cod from her plate.
We complained but amazingly the waitress said it was always happening , why didnt they warn us ? why dont the Cornish counctl do something about Vermin they must carry allsorts of diseases. sorry it's Blackpool next year.

 fantastic beer! Great bands
As a regular, i was suprised to see the comment from Sedrick? It does not sound like the pub I know. Until i found out it was a nom de plume for a dismissed member of staff. (that also explains the mis-spelling of cedric) The hilarious thing is that there was only ever any shortages when she was in charge and they still use the decent bands she booked. The Queens has always had great bands! The poor landlord (and the new bar manager) would be devastated if he read that review and I have never found him to be anything other than a charming and amiable man. The beer quality has improved since the said bar managers dismissal and I believe it has cask mark accreditation.

sitting in the window seat on a winters day, drinking quality ales and reading the papers, ideal. always my first stop when revisiting Polperro. Very friendly staff, going as far as loaning a salt cellar for the cooking as we forgot to take salt, and always there to chat and give friendly advice

 Absolutely disgusting
We booked in for one night and was put off the second we were lead upstairs to our room.
The bathroom was the worst we had ever seen, mould around the bath, pure filth. The room initially smelt of fish, the window we did not want to touch, the curtains were black and hard and the bed was awful. We even slept in our clothes and didn't dare take our shoes off. We left an hour earlier than we planned so that we could have a wash in McDonalds as we could not bear to go in the bathroom. Woukd not recommend to ANYONE. We wouldn't even let our dog sleep in there. And to think we paid £50 for this... DISGUSTING.

This pub as almost a well kept secret for the locals. Stunning views over the harbour and moorings towards Flushing. Food delicious, interesting ales, friendly service. There is a Jazz combo on a Monday night and Blues on a Sunday evening too.

Came on a little tour of cornwall from Norway with my cornish girlfriend and 3 of our 4 kids, ate by chance at the Bettle & chisel, it was great. Super friendly staff, food served by the chef in full uniform with a real smile. Good food, good beer, reasonable prices. big smile.

 Gluten Free Sunday roast
A group of six of us had Sunday lunch on 25th April 2010. The staff were very professional and pleasant. The Inn is full of character and very clean. We ate delicious very reasonably priced meals. I requested gluten free and was served a delicious pear and stilton salad for starter and a lovely roast lamb main course with gluten free gravy. There was a Jazz band playing and the local people were extremely friendly. If i lived nearer i would go there every Sunday lunchtime.

 Fantastic pub, atmosphere, really friendly
Very well run by landlord Jonathan and his attractive sister Jenny. Well trained staff, great food, lots of it locally sourced. A very traditiona pub with lots of note worthy artifacts. One of the oldest and under Jonathan's management, now one of the best in Falmouth. It's so easy to spend time enjoying the views from a seat on the quay, with a real ale or a cream tea! Just Brilliant!

 Not so good.
We booked in for two nights and though the pub seemed very nice, my pregnant partner was leered at the moment we walked in the door. The room was draughty, the bathroom was disgusting, the matress was cheap and uncomfortable, the window was jammed open and the breakfast was greasy and horrible. This place does not come recommended by us.

Best Pub Food We've ever had
A hidden gem away from the town centre just over the river. Very traditional and by far the best pub food both me and my wife have ever had. We llive in Gloucester surrounded by some great establishments but this was something else. I don't usually write reviews but feel this pub definitely deserves a mention. When was the last time you went out and had real homemade chips and real roast potatoes with your sunday lunch? Well if you can't remember and your ever in Lostwithiel then you have to try the food here - you won't be dissappointed - Paul and Irene

 just for laughs
a proper pub, no food, no cocktails, just good beer, characters and a ripping good laugh. nintendo wii on big screen, sports on demand. No kids running around just solid adult humour without looking over your shoulder. Friendly bar staff, who'll chat all day. Real local following of complete lunatics!! What more can you say. Great bands, and it's improving all the time!!! All the makings of a good no nonsense laugh.
Sunday, July 13, 2008Rating: rosettes

if you fancy a good laugh, go to the queens. theres never any beer or change. the land lords a real bundle of laughs (or not) scoffing his face with a kebab at the end of the bar whilst u struggle 2 get served, the bands never turn up cos they're 2 tight 2 pay 4 good bands, it smells like a public toilet and when they do actually have the odd pint of beer instock its full of bits floating served in a luke warm glass, stuff sticking to the sides decorated with last weekends lipstick marks, its got real atmosphere.

a great, slightly dog eared old fashioned pub
this is what real pubs are about. by far and away the warmest welcome anywhere in the town. mike and pauline are really friendly hosts. he, by the way is a welshman with a dodgy taste in shorts. if you get a chance, stay here for b&b, it's brill.!! friendly locals who welcome you in to the fold and are interested in talking to you. good range of local beers, and an amazing range of malt whiskies. if you can get in there, stay there. i will be back...

a well known pub that has enjoyed better days.
it's a bare, miserable pub where most customers appear to be a nuisance unless you are part of the clique around the small bar.'strangers' are not made to feel that welcome.the b&b rooms are small but clean and comfortable. it does have a reputation for food, and at the prices, it should be good, however there are far better pubs in Padstow with a far better atmosphere. mobile phones and children are not allowed in the bar.they won't see me no more!

A great pub! One of the best in the area!
The carriers is a great place to eat and drink. It has something for everyone! Families are welcome and there is a mix of young and old, although it has a rep as being very youthful. The bar staff are really entertaining, especially at weekends and there is music with Dj Samo, a renowned local talent. The food is awesome - in fact, its one of bude's best kept secrets. Go there for the home made burgers ! They are quite strict on ID so if you look young, take some ID with you, or you'll miss out on a great night. A fantastic place to go!

Despite being a Cornishman born around Pentire who now has to work in London, this place has been my local since I was about twenty after the Red Lion was modernised in Newquay. I always come here on my first evening back to my home county to soak out the smog & stress of the countries capital. The atmosphere is friendly with a relaxed vibe around the place which is always helped with live music at weekends and special days like Christmas Eve if they don't fall on a weekend. New Years Eve is another cracker. Food is superb, lots of it & your never kept waiting long after you've ordered. The bar has a large variety of drinks with spirts & larger but on the ale side they need more variety than Mr Skinners Heligans Honey and Cornish Knocker. I particularly miss Iced Blonde that they use to serve but all they need to do is add a few more of Mr Skinners range !!!
Sunsets & views are just magical with a large outdoor area which is great for those hot summer evenings. The only downside are the groups of snobs or second home owners (often this is persons who come into both catagories !!!) who have a huge stick up their backsides as they view everyone else with contempt as they think this pub is for them & them alone !!! Aside from that, I've never seen a row or fight in the place & when I die this will be my heaven !!!

had a lovely meal at the chainlocker, service was quick and friendly. despite obviously being a very busy place when descended on by the hoards. ordered a moules and a baguette, both were presented beautifully . and reasonably priced. considering the amount of people around its surprising how the standards are kept high. and i did find that the staff were very approachable. fascinating old building in an interesting old town, great views too. the heart of falmouth in these busy seasonal times. a proper PUB

 Some improvement required
Excellent view, fast service.

Haddock with pesto:- limp and soggy: salad resonable, but not crisp, and unimaginative, no pesto detected. Bread was underdone and floppy. My wife was unwell for the rest of the afternoon.

Fish and chips, I would have thought that it was hard to get this wrong but................. The fish in batter was utterly tasteless and soggy, there was so much food, that it was impossible to eat without spilling food from the plate, and I given the wrog peas after making a point the the waitress about mushy peas
Altogether the meal was a disaster, and if this is the standard of food that cruise ships can expect your establishment will probably ruin their vist to Cornwall.
Lasty, the cost was set for clients to expect a very much higher standard of food, and presentation than was evident

One of the better pubs in camborne
Has two Bars which are separated by a corridor. One Bar tends to be favoured by the younger generation, the other by those looking for somewhere to eat. Food is good for the price. If you are a visitor to Camborne, a good pub to visit.

 Brilliant Pub
While not a big pub the Rising Sun, has more charcacture than most of the pub chain inns put together. Great range of beers including local Skinner's. Wonderful selections of homecooked foods, with a special menu containing local products and fish dishes. The whole area of Kingsand is a place I would recommend anyone to visit, but especially The Rising Sun.

Since changing hands in 2004 this pub has been transformed. It offers great food at reasonable prices, a good selection of beers, and a wonderful deck out front to enjoy the sea views

 quaint, good rep
It is interesting to see that in the 2 years since the last review the management's attitude toward customers has not changed. We didn't get past the drink we were so annoyed. Very inconsiderate and inhospitable and that was from the manageress.

Myself and my boyfriend are regular diners at this pub and I would like to praise the Carvery, it is excellent and I would say probably the best around with great value for money.

 The world in a pub
Oh, hello.

Welcome to the profile of The Cecil Arms, surely the finest watering hole this side of Cleethorpes.

Visit this pub to enjoy a vast array of fun-filled activities, including darts, Dave-baiting, moustache-tickling, euchre, and Foss-Foss-sampling.

Gaze upon 'The Grinch' - Dr Zeuss' vision alive in one regular.
Or 'Best-loving Pete', recently voted No.#1 guy ever in a poll in Bunty.

But look out for the 'Foss-suppers' sat at the bar, legend has it they are wild on creamy pint of Amber juice.

Why don't you come along and join the party?

P.S. Bring your darts.

 Best pint in Cornwall ?
This pub is tucked away in a lovely village, and in my mind , their Betty Stoggs is the best pint you can find in Cornwall, On the second visit they had the Morris men and we we had to pay £1 a pint while we listened to the music, Life is hard sometimes.
Food is good, but opening hours are limited.
Well worth finding. ( on the side road betwen Torpoint amd Millbrook)

Cosy, friendly, pool, darts, open fire.
A home when I needed one. Sit and lose yourself in thought or join in with the regulars. I joined the darts team after 15 minutes of walking through the door and got looked after by One and All for my three year stay in Cornwall. I know that even now I would get a welcome reserved for the prodigal son.

Fantastic atmosphere especially on a Sunday night, when the locals more often than not have a good Cornish singsong. We were very impressed by the welcome given by the locals. Friendly staff, great beer and sometimes good live music on a weekend held in the skittle alley. Great place- we will be back!

 One of my favourite pubs
Sells the best strong bitter in the world(Sharpes Special, 5.2%). A rather limited, but good menu. Friendly Landlord and pleasant staff. Nice log fires in winter.
Whilst there visit the church next door, its fascinating, with 'The Mermaid of Zennor'

 Historic old pub.
Very old and unspoilt, it gets very busy in summer. Good beer, good snacks, good company. A great atmosphere with lots of paintings by local artists on the walls.
But when crowded there is hardly room to lift your pint.

 Part of the golfing comples.
A nice layout, with excellent food and good beer. They do superb lunches at very reasonable prices and with good service. What more can you want after a round of golf (or before it or instead of it?)

 Changed hands
I have been there several times and it used to be very good. It has changed hands several times in the last 3 years and although the new owners try hard, something seems to be missing. It has changed again this year and we will have to see how it goes, first impressions are good and I hope it goes well as I like it.

has a very good reputation, but each time I have been there I had a poor meal, bland and well overpriced.
A nice pub spoiled by attitude to customers.

Sunday, August 17, 2003Rating: rosettes

A nice friendly pub with good views of the river. A superb selection of Scotch whiskies and good real ales.
Good food at reasonable prices.
There is a busy car park just outside and a bigger one 200 yards away.
Sunday, August 17, 2003Rating: rosettes

 A superb situation
Set by the side of the river with its own landing stage (if you come by boat). A great old pub with a tremendous history. Good beer, good food but a bit pricey. Gets swamped with tourists in the summer and at weekends all year.
Sunday, August 17, 2003Rating: rosettes

 Quiet midweek in Winter
It can be quiet in winter, but is quite friendly and the beer is fine. Bar snacks available at reasonable prices.

 Superb on Obby Oss day
I agree that it is the best pub in Padstow, even a stranger is made to feel welcome. But on Obby Oss day its a job to get in, get there early and be prepared to stay til closing. Although its busy, ita amazing how good the service is, very little waiting beefore being served.
